Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed. Προκείμενον. Ήχος πλ. α'. ΨΑΛΜΟΙ 11.7,1 Σὺ Κύριε, φυλάξαις ἡμᾶς καὶ διατηρήσαις ἡμᾶς. Στίχ. Σῶσον με, Κύριε, ὅτι ἐκλέλοιπεν ὅσιος. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18 Brethren, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen. Πρὸς Γαλάτας 6:11-18 τὸ ἀνάγνωσμα Ἀδελφοί, ἴδετε πηλίκοις ὑμῖν γράμμασιν ἔγραψα τῇ ἐμῇ χειρί. Ὅσοι θέλουσιν εὐπροσωπῆσαι ἐν σαρκί, οὗτοι ἀναγκάζουσιν ὑμᾶς περιτέμνεσθαι, μόνον ἵνα μὴ τῷ σταυρῷ τοῦ Χριστοῦ διώκωνται. Οὐδὲ γὰρ οἱ περιτετμημένοι αὐτοὶ νόμον φυλάσσουσιν, ἀλλὰ θέλουσιν ὑμᾶς περιτέμνεσθαι, ἵνα ἐν τῇ ὑμετέρᾳ σαρκὶ καυχήσωνται. 4 The Gospel According to Luke 8:41-56 At that time, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him. And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter and those who were with him said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!" But Jesus said, "Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me." And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more." But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well." And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he called, saying, "Child, arise." And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened. Ἐκ τοῦ Κατὰ Λουκᾶν 8:41-56 Εὐαγγελίου τὸ Ἀνάγνωσμα Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἄνθρωπός τις προσῆλθε τῷ Ἰησοῦ ᾧ ὄνομα Ιάειρος, καὶ αὐτὸς ἄρχων τῆς συναγωγῆς ὑπῆρχε καὶ πεσὼν παρὰ τοὺς πόδας τοῦ Ιησοῦ παρεκάλει αὐτὸν εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ, ὅτι θυγάτηρ μονογενὴς ἦν αὐτῷ ὡς ἐτῶν δώδεκα, καὶ αὕτη ἀπέθνησκεν. Εν δὲ τῷ ὑπάγειν αὐτὸν οἱ ὄχλοι συνέπνιγον αὐτόν. καὶ γυνὴ οὖσα ἐν ῥύσει αἵματος ἀπὸ ἐτῶν δώδεκα, ἥτις ἰατροῖς προσαναλώσασα ὅλον τὸν βίον οὐκ ἴσχυσεν ὑπ οὐδενὸς θεραπευθῆναι, προσελθοῦσα ὄπισθεν ἥψατο τοῦ κρασπέδου τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ, καὶ παραχρῆμα ἔστη ἡ ῥύσις τοῦ αἵματος αὐτῆς. καὶ εἶπεν ὁ Ιησοῦς τίς ὁ ἁψάμενός μου; ἀρνουμένων δὲ πάντων εἶπεν ὁ Πέτρος καὶ οἱ σὺν αὐτῷ ἐπιστάτα, οἱ ὄχλοι συνέχουσί σε καὶ ἀποθλίβουσι, καὶ λέγεις τίς ὁ ἁψάμενός μου; ὁ δὲ Ιησοῦς εἶπεν ἥψατό μού τις ἐγὼ γὰρ ἔγνων δύναμιν ἐξελθοῦσαν ἀπ ἐμοῦ. ἰδοῦσα δὲ ἡ γυνὴ ὅτι οὐκ ἔλαθε, τρέμουσα ἦλθε καὶ προσπεσοῦσα αὐτῷ δι ἣν αἰτίαν ἥψατο αὐτοῦ ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτῷ ἐνώπιον παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ ὡς ἰάθη παραχρῆμα. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ θάρσει, θύγατερ, ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέ σε πορεύου εἰς εἰρήνην. Ετι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἔρχεταί τις παρὰ τοῦ ἀρχισυναγώγου λέγων αὐτῷ ὅτι τέθνηκεν ἡ θυγάτηρ σου μὴ σκύλλε τὸν διδάσκαλον. ὁ δὲ Ιησοῦς ἀκούσας ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ λέγων μὴ φοβοῦ μόνον πίστευε, καὶ σωθήσεται. ἐλθὼν δὲ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν οὐκ ἀφῆκεν εἰσελθεῖν οὐδένα εἰ μὴ Πέτρον καὶ Ιωάννην καὶ Ιάκωβον καὶ τὸν πατέρα τῆς παιδὸς καὶ τὴν μητέρα. ἔκλαιον δὲ πάντες καὶ ἐκόπτοντο αὐτήν. ὁ δὲ εἶπε μὴ κλαίετε οὐκ ἀπέθανεν, ἀλλὰ καθεύδει. καὶ κατεγέλων αὐτοῦ, εἰδότες ὅτι ἀπέθανεν. αὐτὸς δὲ ἐκβαλὼν ἔξω πάντας καὶ κρατήσας τῆς χειρὸς αὐτῆς ἐφώνησε λέγων ἡ παῖς, ἐγείρου. καὶ ἐπέστρεψε τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτῆς, καὶ ἀνέστη παραχρῆμα, καὶ διέταξεν αὐτῇ δοθῆναι φαγεῖν. καὶ ἐξέστησαν οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῖς. ὁ δὲ παρήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς μηδενὶ εἰπεῖν τὸ γεγονός.

5 Άγιοι Ανάργυροι Κοσμάς και Δαμιανός (1 Νοεμβρίου) Οι άγιοι Ανάργυροι Κοσμάς και Δαμιανός, που εορτάζουν την 1η Νοεμβρίου, ήσαν αυτάδελφοι [=αδέρφια] και κατάγονταν από την Ασία. Υπάρχουν όμως άλλα δύο ζεύγη αγίων Αναργύρων με τα ίδια ονόματα.οι πρώτοι μαρτύρησαν στην Ρώμη[δολοφονήθηκαν από το δάσκαλό τους στην Ιατρική]και εορτάζουν την 1η Ιουλίου και οι δεύτεροι κατάγονταν από την Αραβία και εορτάζουν την 17η Οκτωβρίου. Ήσαν όλοι τους γιατροί, δεν είναι όμως οι μοναδικοί άγιοι που ονομάζονται Ανάργυροι. Είναι και αρκετοί άλλοι, όπως οι Κύρος και Ιωάννης, Σαμψών και Διομήδης, Μώκιος και Ανίκητος, Θαλλελαίος και Τρύφων κ.λ.π. Ανάργυροι ονομάζονται επειδή δεν αγαπούσαν τα αργύρια, δεν ήσαν φιλάργυροι, η καρδιά τους δεν ήταν προσκολλημένη στα υλικά αγαθά και προσέφεραν τις ιατρικές τους υπηρεσίες αφιλοκερδώς. Οι άγιοι Ανάργυροι Κοσμάς και Δαμιανός είχαν γονείς ευσεβείς. Ο πατέρας τους όμως πέθανε όταν οι άγιοι ήσαν σε μικρή ηλικία, και την φροντίδα τους ανέλαβε εξ ολοκλήρου η μητέρα τους, η αγία Θεοδότη, η οποία τους γαλούχησε με τα νάματα της Εκκλησίας και τους δίδαξε την αγάπη προς τον Θεό και τον άνθρωπο. Η αγία Θεοδότη πρέπει να αποτελή το πρότυπο κάθε μητέρας που θέλει τα παιδιά της να προκόψουν. Αλλά προκοπή δεν νοείται χωρίς την αγάπη, την ανιδιοτελή αγάπη προς όλους τους ανθρώπους αδιακρίτως. Για να αγαπά όμως κανείς αληθινά τους ανθρώπους πρέπει πρώτα να αγαπά τον Θεό, επειδή η αληθινή αγάπη είναι δώρο του Θεού. Ο Απόστολος Παύλος συμβούλευε τον μαθητή του άγιο Τιμόθεο Επίσκοπον Εφέσου, να μελετά καθημερινά το Ευαγγέλιο και να ζη σύμφωνα με αυτό, για να προκόψη στην ζωή του και η προκοπή του να γίνη φανερή σε όλους. Οι άγιοι Ανάργυροι θεράπευαν όλους ανιδιοτελώς και αδιακρίτως με την επιστημονική τους γνώση. Εκεί όμως που οι ανθρώπινες δυνάμεις αδυνατούσαν να προχωρήσουν, επειδή κάποιες ασθένειες είναι ανίατες, θεράπευαν τους ασθενείς με την προσευχή τους. Αλλά για να κρύβουν το χάρισμα των ιαμάτων που είχαν λάβει από τον Θεό, λόγω της μεγάλης τους αγάπης, προσποιούνταν ότι εθεράπευαν με τα φάρμακα. Και το έκαναν αυτό από ταπείνωση, για να μη θαυμάζονται και επαινούνται από τους ανθρώπους. Όλη τους η ζωή ήταν διακονία, προσφορά και θυσία στον βωμό της ανιδιοτελούς αγάπης. Τα τέλη τους ήσαν «χριστιανά, ανεπαίσχυντα και ειρηνικά» η όπως αναγράφεται στον ιερό Συναξαριστή, «ετελειώθησαν εν ειρήνη».

6 Nov. 1: Saints Cosmas and Damian the Holy Unmercenaries and their Mother Theodota Cosmas and Damian were unmercenaries and miracle-workers. They were brothers both in the flesh and in the spirit, born somewhere in Asia Minor of a pagan father and a Christian mother. After their father s death, their mother Theodota devoted all her time and effort to educating her sons and raising them as true Christians. God helped her, and her sons matured as sweet fruit and luminaries of the world. They were learned in the art of medicine and ministered to the sick without payment, not so much with medicine as by the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. They were called unmercenary physicians, that is, unpaid physicians, for they healed freely and thus fulfilled the commandment of Christ: Freely ye have received, freely give (Matthew 10:8). So careful were they in healing men free of charge that Cosmas became very angry with his brother Damian because he accepted three eggs from a woman, Palladia, and ordered that he not be buried alongside his brother Damian after his death. In fact, St. Damian did not accept these three eggs as a reward for healing the ailing Palladia, but rather because she adjured him in the name of the Most-holy Trinity to accept these three eggs. Nevertheless, after their death in the town of Fereman, they were buried together according to a revelation from God. The holy brothers were great miracle-workers both during their life and after their death. A snake crawled through the mouth and into the stomach of a certain farm laborer during his sleep, and the unfortunate man would have died in the greatest pain had he not, in the last moment, invoked the help of Saints Cosmas and Damian. Thus, the Lord glorified forever the miracle-working of those who glorified Him on earth by their faith, purity and mercy.
