When O Christ our God Thou wast Transfigured on the mountain Thou didst reveal Thy glory to Thy disciples in proportion as they could bear it. Let Thine everlasting light also enlighten us sinners. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Thou Bestower of light, glory to Thee. Kontakion Thou who was raised up on the Cross of Thine own will, O Christ our God do Thou bestow Thy compassions upon this, Thy new Commonwealth named after Thee. Megalynarion Unto the human race did death come through eating from the tree then in Paradise. But through the Cross, today it is neutralized. 3 Epistle - St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 2:16-20 BRETHREN, you know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Χριστῷ συνεσταύρωμαι ζῶ δέ, οὐκέτι ἐγώ, ζῇ δὲ ἐν ἐμοὶ Χριστός ὃ δὲ νῦν ζῶ ἐν σαρκί, ἐν πίστει ζῶ τῇ τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ, τοῦ ἀγαπήσαντός με καὶ παραδόντος ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ. Gospel Mark 8:34-38; 9:1 The Lord said: "If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? For what can a man give in return for his life? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power." 4 Parish Council Corner... Nomination Committee Do you have time, treasure or talent to share with your community? The Nominating Committee is looking for candidates for Parish Council. Contact Stuart Yoder, Pat Mitchell, or any of the current Council Members to find out what serving on the Council is like and how you can participate. Maintenance Committee Semiannual clean-up/work day. Please join the maintenance committee and Parish Council on the morning of Saturday, September 27, 2014(9:00-12:00). There are a number of projects to work on from deep cleaning in the sanctuary to tree trimming and landscape upkeep. If you see something that needs fixing talk to Stuart Yoder or Tom Gouris and come out on Saturday to help us get it accomplished. Today!!! Parish Council Parish Assembly Sunday, September 21, 2104 after Divine Liturgy. Please join us for the 3rd general assembly of the year. A tentative agenda is: the Future Development Committee s proposal for a complete site plan and next steps; audit report for 2013; and nominations for 2015 Parish Council. Please set aside the early afternoon on the 21st for this important meeting.

Receiving Holy Communion The sacrament of Holy Communion is reserved for only baptized and/or Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have properly prepared by fasting, prayer and confession. The Orthodox Church is not in sacramental communion with any other church outside the Orthodox Christian Faith. If you are not Orthodox, you are invited with everyone to receive the Antidoron (blessed bread) at the end of service. If you would like information about the Orthodox Church, please see Fr.
