Spyridon Vandoros Phone: Council President: Chris Perentes Phone: Η θέση της γυναίκας στην Εκκλησία Vol. 19, No. 6 Ιούλιος/Αύγουστος July/August 2012 Submission deadline: Aug 15 Η Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία εξυψώνει τη γυναίκα ως πρόσωπο αποδίδοντάς της ρόλο ζωτικής σημασίας σε ό,τι αφορά την ανάπτυξη του νέου ανθρώπου και την παρουσία του μέσα στην κοινωνία. Αντίθετα από διαχρονικές αντιλήψεις και πραγματικότητες, που θέλουν τη γυναίκα περιθωριοποιημένη, η Εκκλησία καταλύει κάθε διάκριση μεταξύ των δύο φύλων θεωρώντας άνδρες και γυναίκες ως ισότιμα μέλη ενός Σώματος, προικισμένα με τα ίδια πνευματικά χαρίσματα και με κοινό στόχο την Κοινωνία με το Θεό. Η εξύψωση της γυναίκας βρίσκει την υψηλότερη έκφρασή της στο πρόσωπο της Παρθένου Μαρίας και ιδίως στη συμβολή της στην ενσάρκωση του Υιού και Λόγου του Θεού. Η Θεοτόκος Μαρία αποτελεί την ιδανική, πανώρια και θαυμαστή γυναίκα, σταθερό πρότυπο κάθε Χριστιανού. Σε ολόκληρη όμως την ιστορία της Εκκλησίας μας συναντάμε Γυναίκες Πρότυπα, γυναίκες Αγίες που με την αρετή τους υπηρέτησαν το Θεό και τον άνθρωπο. Η Χαναναία και η Αιμορροούσα διδάσκουν με την πίστη και την επιμονή τους. Η δακρυρροούσα Πόρνη γίνεται ύψιστο παράδειγμα μετάνοιας. Η Σαμαρείτιδα - Αγία Φωτεινή, η Πρίσκιλλα, η Λυδία, η Αγία Θέκλα και αναρίθμητες άλλες γυναίκες γίνονται συνεργάτες στο έργο του κηρύγματος. Η Εμμέλεια, η Νόνα, η Ανθούσα αναδεικνύονται αληθινές μητέρες. Η Ολυμπιάς, η Φοίβη, η Πενταδία, η Αμπρούκλα, η Σιβινιανή χειροτονούνται διακόνισσες και αφοσιώνονται στο πολύπλευρο έργο τους με ευλάβεια. Ο ρόλος των διακονισσών ήταν πολύ καθοριστικός στο χώρο της Εκκλησίας και ο σεβασμός προς το πρόσωπό τους καθολικός. Πρέπει βέβαια να διευκρινιστεί ότι δεν αναλάμβαναν οποιαδήποτε υπηρεσία που να σχετίζεται με το Θυσιαστήριο. Στο ίδιο έργο διακονίας αφοσιώνονται και πάρα πολλές γυναίκες στις μέρες μας, στα πλαίσια πληθώρας δραστηριοτήτων της Ενορίας τους, είτε αυτές σχετίζονται με φιλανθρωπική δράση, είτε με την κατήχηση και γενικότερα τη χριστιανική αγωγή, είτε με άλλες πνευματικές ευκαιρίες (κατασκηνώσεις, συνέδρια κτλ.). Η συμμετοχή της γυναίκας στο διακονικό αυτό έργο συνδέεται άρρηκτα με την ιδιαίτερη γυναικεία φύση και πνευματικότητα. Η γυναίκα με αυτό τον τρόπο αξιοποιεί προσωπικά και έμφυτα χαρίσματά της, προσφέροντας δυναμικά το μερίδιό της στη λειτουργική ζωή της Εκκλησίας ως λατρευτικής κοινότητας. Δεν μπορεί κανείς να αμφισβητήσει ότι η ζωή μιας Ενορίας στηρίζεται σε μεγάλο βαθμό στην αγάπη, τη θυσία και την προσφορά όλων αυτών των γυναικών. Προηγουμένως μνημονεύθηκαν άξιες γυναίκες μητέρες, με πρώτο τιμώμενο πρόσωπο την Παναγία - Μητέρα του Θεού. Ο ρόλος της γυναίκας, συνεπώς η θέση της μέσα στην Εκκλησία, ως μητέρα καταξιώνει στο έπακρο τη γυναικεία ύπαρξη. Το μεγαλείο της μητρότητας, το οποίο περικλείει εκτός από την τεκνογονία και την ανατροφή των παιδιών, καθιστά τη γυναίκα ως πρώτη συλλειτουργό στη δημιουργία του ανθρώπου, δηλαδή ως πηγή ζωής. Είναι ο πυρήνας του κυττάρου που λέγεται οικογένεια κοινωνία. Στα πλαίσια του γυναικείου έργου δεν πρέπει να παραλειφθεί η σπουδαιότητα του γυναικείου μοναχισμού, ο οποίος συνέβαλε στην ανύψωση της θέσης των γυναικών στην Εκκλησία. Δηλώνεται έτσι όχι μόνο ο κοινωνικός ρόλος και η προσφορά τους στην κοσμική ζωή, αλλά και η πνευματική τους δύναμη στο μοναχικό βίο. Η ιδιαιτερότητα της γυναίκας και των λειτουργημάτων που επιτελεί μέσα στην Εκκλησία την καθιστά αναμφισβήτητα ισότιμο μέλος προς τον άνδρα. Στην Ορθοδοξία ο σεβασμός στην ιδιαιτερότητα αποτελεί θεμελιώδη αρχή. Γι αυτό και δε χρησιμοποιεί την έννοια της ισότητας, αλλά υποστηρίζει την έννοια της ισοτιμίας ανάμεσα στα δύο φύλα, ανάμεσα στα πρόσωπα. Το γεγονός ότι εξαιρούνται οι γυναίκες από το μυστήριο της ιεροσύνης, σε καμιά St.Paul s Newsletter Ιούλιος/Αύγουστος July/August 2012 Page 1

2 περίπτωση σημαίνει υποτίμηση της Γυναίκας, όπως θέλουν κάποιοι να θεωρούν. Η Ιεροσύνη δεν είναι ένα εκκλησιαστικό επάγγελμα, ούτε έχει τυπικό ή εθιμικό χαρακτήρα. Πρόκειται για Μυστήριο θεσμοθετημένο από τον ίδιο τον Ιησού Χριστό, δοσμένο από Εκείνον μόνο στους Αποστόλους και στους συνεχιστές του έργου τους Άνδρες-Κληρικούς. Το γιατί δόθηκε αυτή η δυνατότητα μόνο στο ανδρικό φύλο, ερμηνεύεται ανθρωπίνως ως οφειλόμενο σε λόγους καθαρά πρακτικούς και βιολογικούς. Ο Άνθρωπος, άλλωστε, καλείται με πίστη εμπιστοσύνη σ Εκείνον να δέχεται και να ζει τις θείες αλήθειες και ενέργειες. Το γεγονός αυτό όμως δεν αφαιρεί από την αξία της γυναίκας ως προσώπου. Η δυνατότητα άλλωστε της αγιότητας υπάρχει ελεύθερα και ισότιμα και στα δύο φύλα. Ας μην ξεχνάμε και το εξής: Το σώμα έχει πολλά μέλη και το κάθε μέλος έχει τη δική του αποστολή, η οποία με την αξία και τη μοναδικότητά της συμβάλλει στη γενική αρμονία. Κυριακή Χριστοδούλου, Φιλόλογος. ᴥ The Veneration of the Mother of God During Her Earthly Life F rom apostolic times and to our days all who truly love Christ give veneration to Her Who gave birth to Him, raised Him and protected Him in the days of His youth. If God the Father chose Her, God the Holy Spirit descended upon Her, and God the Son dwelt in Her, submitted to Her in the days of His youth, was concerned for Her when hanging on the Cross then should not everyone who confesses the Holy Trinity venerate Her? Still in the days of Her earthly life the friends of Christ, the Apostles, manifested a great concern and devotion for the Mother of the Lord, especially the Evangelist John the Theologian, who, fulfilling the will of Her Divine Son, took Her to himself and took care for Her as for a mother from the time when the Lord uttered to him from the Cross the words: Behold thy mother. The Evangelist Luke painted a number of images of Her, some together with the Pre-eternal Child, others without Him. When he brought them and showed them to the Most Holy Virgin, She approved them and said: The grace of My Son shall be with them, and repeated the hymn She had once sung in the house of Elizabeth: My soul doth magnify the Lord, and My spirit hath rejoiced in God My Saviour. However, the Virgin Mary during Her earthly life avoided the glory which belonged to Her as the Mother of the Lord. She preferred to live in quiet and prepare Herself for the departure into eternal life. To the last day of Her earthly life She took care to prove worthy of the Kingdom of Her Son, and before death She prayed that He might deliver Her soul from the malicious spirits that meet human souls on the way to heaven and strive to seize them so as to take them away with them to hades. The Lord fulfilled the prayer of His Mother and in the hour of Her death Himself came from heaven with a multitude of angels to receive Her soul. Since the Mother of God had also prayed that She might bid farewell to the Apostles, the Lord gathered for Her death all the Apostles, except Thomas, and they were brought by an invisible power on that day to Jerusalem from all the ends of the inhabited world, where they were preaching, and they were present at Her blessed translation into eternal life. The Apostles gave Her most pure body over burial with sacred hymns, and on the third day they opened the tomb so as once more to venerate the remains of the Mother of God together with the Apostle Thomas, who had arrived then in Jerusalem. But they did not find the body in the tomb and in perplexity they returned to their own place; and then, during their meal, the Mother of God Herself appeared to them in the air, shining with heavenly light, and informed them that Her Son had glorified Her body also, and She, resurrected, stood before His Throne. At the same time, She promised to be with them always. The Apostles greeted the Mother of God with great joy and began to venerate Her not only as the Mother of their beloved Teacher and Lord, but also as their heavenly helper, as a protector of Christians and intercessor for the whole human race before the Righteous Judge. And everywhere the Gospel of Christ was preached, His most Pure Mother also began to be glorified. Funerals On May 29 th, the servant of God Constantinos (Gus) Iatridis was put to rest. Greek School Grade 7 The Greek School Board decided to initiate a Grade Seven program for youth between 12 and 16 years old. The program will start in the school year and it is planned to run only Saturdays from 9:30am to 11:30am. The purpose of this class is to teach culture and history. It won t be a mandatory step for receiving the Greek School completion certificate. All students that complete Grade Six will graduate as normal. The very best regards, Cory Hallett Human Resources Manager Cory.Hallett@redheadequipment.ca Phone: (306) Greek Orthodox Section at Regina Memorial Gardens Has Been Expanded St. Paul s Greek Orthodox Church, with the approval of the General Assembly at the May 6th meeting, has come to an agreement with Regina Memorial Gardens to expand the Greek Orthodox Section there. The terms of the agreement are as follows: The Church will purchase 25 lots for the price of $1, plus GST each, with a commitment not to the sell the plots for 15 years and that all the headstones place on these 25 plots must be purchased from Regina Memorial Gardens. All Church members will be entitled to 10% off pre-need arrangements and 5% off at time of passing. The sections adjacent to our existing garden will be reserved and the whole garden will be renamed: St. Paul s Greek Orthodox Section A space for a new chapel will be set aside and communication to finalize the size and shape will continue with final approval to be done by Construction and Development at RMG. If our members were to buy 100 lots in the next 6 months on their own RMG will offer a complimentary monument to commemorate our Church. The agreement was signed on May 15 th with a deposit of $5,000. The balance will be paid in eight Quarterly payments with no interest or finance charges. St Paul s Leadership Scholarship The St Paul s Greek Orthodox Community Leadership Scholarship was created to recognize and award members of the Greek Community in Regina who are currently enrolled in or intend to pursue post-secondary education at a recognized institution in Canada or the United States. Two scholarships will be awarded, one for $1,000 CDN and one for $500 CDN. The award will be applied to tuition. Scholarship candidates must complete and submit the application no later than August 31.
