Mode 4. Daniel 3.26,27 Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers. Verse: For you are just in all you have done. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 11:24-26, Brethren, by faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets -- who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign enemies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated -- of whom the world was not worthy -- wandering over deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

2 And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. Ἔλαβον γυναῖκες ἐξ ἀναστάσεως τοὺς νεκροὺς αὐτῶν ἄλλοι δὲ ἐτυμπανίσθησαν, οὐ προσδεξάμενοι τὴν ἀπολύτρωσιν, ἵνα κρείττονος ἀναστάσεως τύχωσιν ἕτεροι δὲ ἐμπαιγμῶν καὶ μαστίγων πεῖραν ἔλαβον, ἔτι δὲ δεσμῶν καὶ φυλακῆς ἐλιθάσθησαν, ἐπρίσθησαν, ἐπειράσθησαν, ἐν φόνῳ μαχαίρας ἀπέθανον περιῆλθον ἐν μηλωταῖς, ἐν αἰγείοις δέρμασιν, ὑστερούμενοι, θλιβόμενοι, κακουχούμενοι - ὧν οὐκ ἦν ἄξιος ὁ κόσμος - ἐν ἐρημίαις πλανώμενοι καὶ ὄρεσιν καὶ σπηλαίοις καὶ ταῖς ὀπαῖς τῆς γῆς. 3 The Gospel According To John 1:43-51 GOSPEL READING At that time, Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus answered him, "Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these." And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man." St. Nicholas Summer Camp 2017 St. Nicholas Summer Camp: Preparations are beginning for another exciting year of summer camp for our young people! As in previous years, the Metropolis Summer Camp has been able to offer a considerable number of summer camp scholarships (or camperships) to those families who need them. Kouklas We are having our Kouklas luncheon from this month on Thursday 3/9/17 11:30 am to celebrate the birthdays of Klio Harris, Angeliki Tsetseris and Ana Grifizas. 6 Bible Study The Bible Study will meet on Thursdays at 7pm beginning in Great Lent. See the dates on the calendar. Catechism Class The Catechism Class is open to anyone who would like to attend. You do not have to be a catechumen or inquirer, but if you would like to brush up on the foundations of your Orthodox Faith, please come! If you have any questions, please see Father Stephen and look in the calendar section of the bulletin each week for the next class. Sanctuary Lights The two Sanctuary Lights on the Holy Altar are replaced every Sunday and burn for one week. You may offer one or both of them for a loved one. Please contact Fr. Andrew if you would like to donate towards one or both. The cost is $10.00 each. Coffee Hour We need people to help us with the coffee hour. Dates when help is needed are: March 12, 19 and 26. It can be as simple as cookies, cake, and coffee! Thank you. Philoptochos Philoptochos will meet on Monday, March 6 at noon in the church hall. If you haven't already joined, it's never too late! 9 STEWARDSHIP CORNER Stewardship 2017 Four Principles of Biblical Stewardship (Cont.) 3. The principal of accountability. A steward is one who manages the possessions of another. We are all stewards of the resources, abilities and opportunities and one day each of us will be called to give an account for how we have managed what the Master has given us. This is the maxim taught by the Parable of the Talents. God has entrusted authority over the creation to us. We are called to exercise our dominion under the watchful eye of our Creator managing his creation with love, dedication and faithfulness. Like the servants in the Parable of the Talents, we will be called to give an account of how we have administered the gifts of time, money, abilities, information, wisdom, relationships and authority. We thank those who are continuing stewards and to those who are new stewards of St. Nicholas.
