Mode 4. Psalm 146.5;134.3 Great is our Lord, and great is his power. Verse: Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good. The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 8:8-13; 9:1-2 Brethren, food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against

2 Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall. Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? 3 GOSPEL READING The Gospel According to Matthew 25:31-46 The Lord said, "When the Son of man comes in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Please send any announcements to her at Articles should be submitted in text (*.txt) or Microsoft Word (*.docx) formats and pictures in JPEG (*.jpg *.jpeg *.jpe) format for inclusion in the bulletin. The deadline for submissions is on Friday 5:00 PM anything submitted after that time will not be included in the bulletin for the upcoming Sunday. Sanctuary Lights The two Sanctuary Lights on the Holy Altar are replaced every Sunday and burn for one week. You may offer one or both of them for a loved one. Please contact Fr. Church Bookmobile St. Nicholas Bookmobile is adding many new items for sale. You may purchase items after Liturgy on Sunday or by talking to Elaine Manneh at cell or house at Church Library A church library is now available in the church office. You may borrow books for a period of three weeks. Please write your name and telephone number on the library card. Consider sharing your reading in the bulletin. Children's books are available for borrowing in the Sunday School trailer. St. Nicholas Cookbook Our St. Nicholas cookbook is now available for sale. Copies are in the church office. The cost is $12. each. Consider buying several to give out as gifts. Thanks to all who contributed recipes to make this project a success. Greek School Greek School teacher Katia said classes will be at 5:30 PM from now on.

8 Ahepa and Daughters of Penelope The Ahepa/ Daughters of Penelope are sponsoring a community get-together to San Diego on May 18th. We'll be taking the Hornblower Cruise of the harbor. Following the two-hour cruise those who wish to join us we go to dinner (location to be determined near the harbor). The cost of the cruise is $20. a person for the two-hour cruise. There are only 30 seats available. The exact time will come in an additional . Please make a reservation with Elaine at church or call at Prepayment must be made at the time of the reservation and is nonrefundable. Please make out checks to DOP. Hope you'll join us.

9 STEWARDSHIP CORNER Stewardship 2019 Stewardship Scripture for 2019: Whatever you do work at it with ALL YOURT HEART as working for the Lord, not for Men. Colossians 3:23 We are already at the beginning of March 2019! The Great and Holy Lent is upon is. We will once again be entering into that time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. It is the time of our Liturgical calendar we call the joyful sorrow. The next two Sundays (March 3 & 10) the themes of preparation are the following. The Last Judgement and Forgiveness Sunday. The Last Judgement is presented to us as a reminder of what will occur at the awesome judgement seat of the Lord. The main message is that of LOVE. How do we as Christians related to our fellow humans? Do we visit the sick, give to the poor, give water to those who thirst, live out the Christian message which is love (agape love-unconditional love for each other) What does all of this have to do with Stewardship? The very foundation of Stewardship is love. Caring for our church and it s faithful. The next Sunday is that of Forgiveness Sunday. The Church teaches us that we must enter the period of fasting in forgiving each other of how we treat one another. How can we enter into the period of peace and repentance without forgiving and asking for forgiveness? Our parish of St. Nicholas is having some difficulties in the area of Stewardship. We have a parish with 180 families and individuals. Our total number of pledged members (those who have submitted their pledge/membership cards for 2019) is only 50 with an additional amount of 10 who have given to the church without a pledge card. We have mentioned many times to the faithful that it is important for us to have your membership/stewardship card on file. Please, if you haven t made a pledge or given to the church your offering of love. Our pledges are down as well as the amount pledged has gone down. If we want a church, we have to take care and do our share of supporting through our pledge of Time, Talent and Treasure. Many just do not listen to the message of the church when it comes to supporting and fostering our Orthodox Faith. If you want the church to continue in Temecula Valley, we all have to be committed to Stewardship and do what we are able. Some of our members are pledging 10% of their treasure. That is the Biblical norm. Food for Thought The bread you do not use is the bread of the hungry. The garment hanging in your wardrobe is the garment of the person who is naked. The shoes you do not wear are the shoes of the one who is barefoot. The money you keep locked away is the money of the poor. The acts of charity you do not perform are the injustices your commit, St. Basil the Great 4th century As we begin the joyful time of fasting let us remember to begin the fast with contemplating the final Judgement that each person must experience. We will all stand before the dread judgement seat of the Lord. A time to examine our lives and to see where we are going. Let us remember that Stewardship is not about money but is about caring for our souls and providing for the church and its ministries. Kali Tesserakosti! To A Good Forty Days!
