2 Epistle Prokeimenon. Mode Plagal 2. Psalm 27.9,1 O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance. Verse: To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16 Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. Resurrectional Apolytikion First Tone With the stone sealed by Judeans, and the soldiers guarding your undefiled body, you rose, O Savior, the third day, to all the world granting life. For this reason, the heavenly powers cried to you, the giver of life: glory to your resurrection, O Christ, glory to your kingdom, glory to you dispensation, O only true friend of man. Gospel 2nd Sunday of Matthew The Gospel According to Matthew 4:18-23 English Ελληνικά Print At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. Apolytikion of the Church To-day is the crown of our Salvation and the manifestation of the Eternal Mystery. The Son of God becometh the son of the Virgin, and Gabriel announceth the good tidings of grace. Wherefore let us also with him cry to the Mother of God: Hail! Thou that art full of grace; the Lord is with thee. 4 Today following the Divine Liturgy we ask everyone to join us for refreshments and fellowship in the lower level of the church social hall. The coffee social will be provided by the Nickas Family in loving memory of Demetrios Nickas. SUMMER COFFEE During the Summer Months the Ladies of Philoptochos will not host the coffee hour. The coffee hours are potluck style, so bring something to share we will also need coffee and refreshments. 8 Events: VOLUNTEERING IN GREECE The Greek America Foundation is sponsoring Service Learning Program for North American university students who can spend three weeks volunteering in Athens shelters housing unaccompanied refugee minors. Participants flight to Greece and accommodations will be covered so they can help refugee children regain their childhood, after experiencing the trauma of war, and separation from their families.
