Yet, You rose on the third day giving life to the world. Receiving Holy Communion - We welcome to this celebration of the Divine Liturgy those Christians who are from other Christian Denominations and who are not fully united with us. Sadly, it is a consequence of the divisions in Christianity that we cannot extend to you an invitation to receive Holy Communion. Orthodox Christians believe that the Eucharist is the work or action of the celebrating community signifying a oneness of faith, life, and worship of the believing community. Reception of Holy Communion by Christians not fully united with us would imply a oneness which does not yet exist, and for which we must pray. However, all present are welcome to partake of the Antidoro (blessed bread) which is distributed at the end of the Liturgy Service.

3 Epistle Reading Prokeimenon. First Mode. Psalm 32.22,1. Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us. Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous. The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2: Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. 4 GOSPEL 2nd Sunday of Ma hew The Reading is from Ma hew 4:18 23 At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. 8 American Hellenic Educa onal Progressive Associa on HARRIS J BOORAS CHAPTER #406, ORDER OF AHEPA Greetings to all in our Chapter and the Taxiarchae Community Our June Chapter Meeting (last meeting before our July & August recess) occurred on Thurs, June 8, 2017 in the Atrium of the Taxiarchae Hellenic Cultural Center. The agenda was as follows: Chapter Elections for the AHEPA year. [ The results will be announced next week.] Processing of Membership applications (2) and vote on new candidate(s) as required. Reports by the President, Secretary, Treasurer; and District, Reg4, Supreme officers. Report on our Book awards to Greek School 11 graduates on TODAY s event Sun., June 11, 2017 Preparations for the AHEPA Fall 2017 Event. Expansion of the Fr. Metaxas Scholarship to include scholarships honoring additional AHEPANs. Volunteer / Support our Taxiarchae G.O.C for a successful 2017 Festival, Fri-Sun., June 23, 24, 25. Plans for new activities and other discussions and proposals for the benefit of the Order of AHEPA. On our 1st year that we offered our own chapter A406 Fr. Metaxas Scholarship, there were 2 very well-qualified applicants who won! Note that for people who are also AHEPA members, their children and grandchildren can win higher $ amounts (up to $3,000) at the AHEPA Bay State District 8 level. So, just on that thought, it makes sense to join AHEPA! Get a Membership Application form at the church office and submit it -so your children and grandchildren can become eligible next year! As we approach our Centennial in 2022 let us remind ourselves and all in the Taxiarchae community not to forget the noble works of AHEPA and let s welcome all, especially the younger in our community, to join it. We need new innovative ideas to sustain / expand our chapter so we can continue our work for the next 100 years! Tavli / Backgammon continue on Fridays at the Atrium (or alternate location), 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.) In the summer we plan informal meetings at restaurants where we will invite guest speakers! This event helps support the church. Before the actual event, there is much work to be done. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!! The Taxiarchae needs you! The women of Philoptochos work tirelessly to offer the best pastry table among all of the churches in the area. But, in order to make this years pastry table a successful one, WE NEED YOUR HELP. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of volunteering. Please make every effort to bake large quantities of your best dessert to sell at the Pastry Table during the Festival. Any Greek dessert is most welcomed, especially Kourambiethes, Karithopeta, Melomakarona, Kataifi, Galaktobouriko, Koulourakia and of course the number one choice, Baklava. Get together with your moms, aunts, cousins and bake up a storm for a great cause. If you are not a baker then please consider volunteering your time by helping at the festival. We are looking for volunteers for group baking and working at the festival. Remember, many hands make for less work. Volunteering is a multi generational opportunity. Please call, or when you are available to volunteer. If you are baking, please let me know what you re making that we do not have too many duplications. Patsiokostas A P B In his autobiography, Vasilios Patsiokostas (Patsios) recounts his life experiences of survival during World War II and the Greek Civil War; his success as an immigrant in America; and his support and joy in a close-knit Greek family. His story is fascinating and inspirational. Free-will donation. Proceeds from the book sales will support the Taxiarchae Church youth ministries. Thank you.
