4 1st Sunday of Luke The Gospel of Luke 5:1-11 At that time, Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets." And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord." For he was astonished, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men." And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him. Wine Tasting and Silent Auction October 19, 2013 at 7PM in the Demotses Center St. Val s Hoops Season St. Val s Youth Basketball registration will be held in September after the first Divine Liturgy in the gym. All children of the parish ages 8 (before Sept 1st) - grade 9 are eligible. The cost is $35 per player $40 per family max. We need volunteers for coaching and assistant coaching if interested or have any questions please contact Steve Stephanides , Chuck Antoniou chuckant@yahoo.com or Tom Gould Greek School News: NEW INTRODUCTORY CLASS This year we have added an introductory class for 4 year olds!students will be learning Greek through songs and games. The class meets on Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. If you are interested in enrolling your child please contact us. TEEN/ADULT GREEK LANGUAGE CLASS We are excited to offer a beginner language course in Greek conversation for teens and adults. The course will meet 1 day a week for 2 hours on Saturday mornings from 9am-11am. The course will run for 12- weeks and is titled Introduction to Modern Greek Conversation 1. The tuition will be $240 ($20 per class) plus $37 for the book. We are anticipating for the course to start on Saturday, October 5 th. There is a minimum of 5 adults required for the course to begin and a maximum of 10. Please visit the Church Office Monday-Friday from 9-5 to sign up It is never too late to sign up for Greek School! CEMETERY VISITS: Due to the number of sacraments, 40 day blessings and memorials on Sundays it is difficult to make cemetery visits on Sundays after liturgy. If you would like a Trisagion at the graveside during the week you are kindly asked to make an appointment by calling the church office. WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS! Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly, the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives, Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are only permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. If you have any questions or concerns please speak with Father Chris. HOSPITAL VISITS Salem Hospital is making a change in order to be in compliance with new privacy laws. This change will mean that we will no longer receive the list of Orthodox patients in the hospital. So, if you or a loved one will be in the hospital please call the church office so that we can pay you a pastoral visit. This change will also affect Beverly Hospital as well. Also, families of people in nursing home please call the church office so that their names will be included on the list of residents.
