3 Ἀπόστολος Πράξ. ιβ 1-11 Acts 12:1-11 Epistle Κατ' ἐκεῖνον τὸν καιρὸν ἐπέβαλεν Ηρῴδης ὁ βασιλεὺς τὰς χεῖρας κακῶσαί τινας τῶν ἀπὸ τῆς ἐκκλησίας. Ἀνεῖλε δὲ 'Ιάκωβον τὸν ἀδελφὸν 'Ιωάννου μαχαίρᾳ. Καὶ ἰδὼν ὅτι ἀρεστόν ἐστι τοῖς 'Ιουδαίοις, προσέθετο συλλαβεῖν καὶ Πέτρον ἦσαν δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι τῶν ἀζύμων ὃν καὶ πιάσας ἔθετο εἰς φυλακήν, παραδοὺς τέσσαρσι τετραδίοις στρατιωτῶν φυλάσσειν αὐτόν, βουλόμενος μετὰ τὸ Πάσχα ἀναγαγεῖν αὐτὸν τῷ λαῷ. Ὁ μὲν οὖν Πέτρος ἐτηρεῖτο ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ προσευχὴ δὲ ἦν ἐκτενὴς γινομένη ὑπὸ τῆς ἐκκλησίας πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν ὑπὲρ αὐτοῦ. Οτε δὲ ἔμελλεν αὐτὸν προάγειν ὁ Ηρῴδης, τῇ νυκτὶ ἐκείνῃ ἦν ὁ Πέτρος κοιμώμενος μεταξὺ δύο στρατιωτῶν δεδεμένος ἁλύσεσι δυσί, φύλακές τε πρὸ τῆς θύρας ἐτήρουν τὴν φυλακήν. Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος Κυρίου ἐπέστη καὶ φῶς ἔλαμψεν ἐν τῷ οἰκήματι πατάξας δὲ τὴν πλευρὰν τοῦ Πέτρου ἤγειρεν αὐτὸν λέγων ἀνάστα ἐν τάχει. καὶ ἐξέπεσον αὐτοῦ αἱ ἁλύσεις ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν εἶπέ τε ὁ Ἄγγελος πρὸς αὐτόν περίζωσαι καὶ ὑπόδησαι τὰ σανδάλιά σου. Ἐποίησε δὲ οὕτω καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ περιβαλοῦ τὸ ἱμάτιόν σου καὶ ἀκολούθει μοι. Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ, καὶ οὐκ ᾔδει ὅτι ἀληθές ἐστι τὸ γινόμενον διὰ τοῦ ἀγγέλου, ἐδόκει δὲ ὅραμα βλέπειν. Διελθόντες δὲ πρώτην φυλακὴν καὶ δευτέραν ἦλθον ἐπὶ τὴν πύλην τὴν σιδηρᾶν τὴν φέρουσαν εἰς τὴν πόλιν, ἥτις αὐτομάτη ἠνοίχθη αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐξελθόντες προῆλθον ῥύμην μίαν καὶ εὐθέως ἀπέστη ὁ Ἄγγελος ἀπ' αὐτοῦ. Καὶ ὁ Πέτρος γενόμενος ἐν ἑαυτῷ εἶπε νῦν οἶδα ἀληθῶς ὅτι ἐξαπέστειλε Κύριος τὸν Ἄγγελον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξείλετό με ἐκ χειρὸς Ηρῴδου καὶ πάσης τῆς προσδοκίας τοῦ λαοῦ τῶν 'Ιουδαίων. About that time, Herod the king laid violent hands upon some who belonged to the church. He killed James the brother of John with the sword; and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people. So Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the Church. The very night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison; and behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, "Get up quickly." And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, "Wrap your mantle around you and follow me." And he went out and followed him; he did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened to them of its own accord, and they went out and passed on through one street; and immediately the angel left him. And Peter came to himself, and said, "Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting."

Θωμᾶς δὲ εἷς ἐκ τῶν δώδεκα ὁ λεγόμενος Δίδυμος, οὐκ ἦν μετ' αὐτῶν ὅτε ἦλθεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς. ἔλεγον οὖν αὐτῷ οἱ ἄλλοι μαθηταί Ἑωράκαμεν τὸν Κύριον. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἐὰν μὴ ἴδω ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ τὸν τύπον τῶν ἥλων, καὶ βάλω τὸν δάκτυλόν μου εἰς τὸν τύπον τῶν ἥλων, καὶ βάλω τὴν χεῖρά μου εἰς τὴν πλευρὰν αὐτοῦ, οὐ μὴ πιστεύσω. Καὶ μεθ' ἡμέρας ὀκτὼ πάλιν ἦσαν ἔσω οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ Θωμᾶς μετ' αὐτῶν. ἔρχεται ὁ Ἰησοῦς τῶν θυρῶν κεκλεισμένων, καὶ ἔστη εἰς τὸ μέσον καὶ εἶπεν Εἰρήνη ὑμῖν. εἶτα λέγει τῷ Θωμᾷ Φέρε τὸν δάκτυλόν σου ὧδε καὶ ἴδε τὰς χεῖράς μου, καὶ φέρε τὴν χεῖρά σου καὶ βάλε εἰς τὴν πλευράν μου, καὶ μὴ γίνου ἄπιστος, ἀλλὰ πιστός. καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Θωμᾶς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ὁ Κύριός μου καὶ ὁ Θεός μου. λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς Ὅτι ἑώρακάς με, πεπίστευκας μακάριοι οἱ μὴ ἰδόντες καὶ πιστεύσαντες. Πολλὰ μὲν οὖν καὶ ἄλλα σημεῖα ἐποίησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐνώπιον τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ, ἃ οὐκ ἔστι γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τούτῳ ταῦτα δὲ γέγραπται ἵνα πιστεύσητε ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ἵνα πιστεύοντες ζωὴν ἔχητε ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ. On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them: "Peace be with you." When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them: "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him: " We have seen the Lord." But he said to them: "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in His side, I will not believe." Eight days later, His disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said: "Peace be with you." Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered Him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to Him: "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

Zetes If your name is not listed as you wish it to appear, please notify the church office After dignifying the holy apostles with the glorious distinction of the apostleship and appointing them ministers and priests of the divine altar, as I have just said, he at once sanctifies them by promising his Spirit to them through the outward sign of his breath, that we might be firmly convinced that the Holy Spirit is not alien to the Son but consubstantial with him and through him proceeding from the Father. 13 Ἡ Ψηλάφησις τοῦ Ἀποστόλου Θωμᾶ Σὲ ἕξι μέρες ὁ Θεὸς κατασκεύασε καὶ διακόσμησε ὅ ο τὸ αἰσθητὸ τοῦτο σύμπαν, ἐπίσης ἔπλασε καὶ ζωοποίησε τὸ μόνο ζῶο μὲ αἴσθηση καὶ νοῦ, τὸν ἄνθρωπο. Κατὰ τὴν ἕβδομη μέρα κατέπαυσε ἀπὸ ὅ α τὰ ἔργα Του, ὅπως μας δίδαξε τὸ Ἅγιο Πνεῦμα μὲ τὴ γλώσσα τοῦ Μωϋσῆ. «Καὶ εὐ όγησε ὁ Θεὸς τὴν ἑβδόμη μέρα καὶ τὴν ἁγίασε». Πῶς λοιπὸν εὐ όγησε καὶ ἁγίασε αὐτὴ τὴν ἡμέρα, στὴν ὁποία δὲν ἔπραξε τίποτα; Πῶς δὲν εὐ όγησε τὴν «μία» τὴν πρώτη ποὺ εἶναι ὑπερεξαίρετη κατὰ τὴν ὁποία παρήγαγε τὸ σύμπαν ἀπὸ τὸ μὴ ὅν; Πῶς δὲν εὐ όγησε κάποια ἄ η ἑπόμενη μέρα εἴτε αὐτὴ ποὺ στερέωσε τὸν οὐρανὸ εἴτε αὐτὴ ποὺ συστάθηκε ἡ γῆ; Γιατί δὲν εὐ όγησε μᾶ ον τὴν ἕκτη ποὺ ἀνέδειξε τὸν ἄνθρωπο γνωστικὸ ζῶο κατ εἰκόνα καὶ ὁμοίωσή Του; Καὶ ὅμως εὐ όγησε τὴν ἕβδομη μέρα, ποὺ εἶναι μέρα ἀπραξίας. Μερικοὶ ἐκθειάζουν τὸν ἀριθμὸ ἑπτὰ (Ἰώσηπος, Φί ων) γιατί λέγουν ὅτι εἶναι ἀγέννητος, ἀ ὰ καὶ παρθένος ἀφοῦ δὲν γεννᾶ. Ὅμως καὶ ἡ μονάδα εἶναι ἐντελῶς ἀγέννητη, ἀ ὰ καὶ γεννητικὴ κάθε ἀριθμοῦ. Μιλᾶνε γιὰ τὶς ἑπτὰ μέρες τῆς ἑβδομάδας, ἑπτὰ πλανῆτες, σ ἑπτὰ μέρες διχοτομεῖται ἡ σελήνη καὶ σὲ ἄ ες ἑπτὰ γίνεται πανσέ ηνος κ.ο.κ. Κάθε ἀριθμὸ ἂν τὸν ἐξετάσουμε θὰ βροῦμε κάτι καλὸ καὶ θαυμαστὰ ταιριαστό. Λόγου χάρη ὁ ἀριθμὸς ἕξη εἶναι πρῶτος μεταξὺ τῶν τελείων ἀφοῦ ἐξισώνεται πρὶν ἀπὸ τοὺς ἄ ους στὰ μέρη του, γι αὐτὸ καὶ τὸ σύμπαν ὁ οκληρώθηκε σ αὐτόν. Ὅμως ὁ Μωϋσῆς κατὰ κανένα τρόπο δὲν ἐμφάνισε τὸν Θεὸ ὡς ἐπαινέτη τοῦ ἀριθμοῦ. Λαμβάνοντας ἀφορμὴ ἀπὸ τὰ ἴδια τὰ λόγια τοῦ Μωϋσῆ λέμε γιὰ ποιὸ λόγο εὐ όγησε τὴν ἑβδόμη μέρα. Λέγει ὅτι: «κατέπαυσε ὁ Θεὸς τὴν ἕβδομη ἡμέρα ἀπὸ ὅ α τὰ ἔργα του τὰ ὁποία ἄρχισε νὰ ἐκτελεῖ». Ἑπομένως ὑπάρχουν ἔργα τοῦ Θεοῦ ποὺ οὔτε ἄρχισε νὰ ἐκτελεῖ, οὔτε ἔπαυσε νὰ ἐκτελεῖ. Εὐ όγησε λοιπὸν καὶ ἁγίασε τὴν ἕβδομη ἡμέρα κατὰ τὴν ὁποία ἔπαυσε νὰ πράττει τὰ αἰσθητά, σὰν εἶδος ἐπανόδου στὸ ὕψος του θεοπρεπῶς, ποὺ βέβαια ποτὲ δὲν ἐγκατέ ειψε, διδάσκοντας ἐμᾶς νὰ βρεθοῦμε κατὰ δύναμη σ ἐκείνη τὴ κατάπαυση ποὺ εἶναι ἡ κατὰ τὸ νοῦ μας θεωρία καὶ ἀνύψωση πρὸς τὸ Θεό. Αὐτὸ εἶναι τὸ ἕνα αἴτιο τῆς εὐ ογίας τῆς ἕβδομης ἡμέρας καὶ παρήγγειλε ὁ Μωϋσῆς νὰ τηρεῖται ἀργία, ἀ ὰ μόνο ἀπὸ τὰ ἔργα ποὺ βοηθοῦν τὸ σῶμα, ἐνῶ γιὰ τὴ ψυχὴ παρήγγειλε ἐνέργεια. Ἄ ο αἴτιο εἶναι ἡ πρόβ εψη τοῦ δημιουργοῦ τῆς ἐκτροπῆς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πρὸς τὸ χειρότερο μέχρι καταστροφῆς καὶ φυλακῆς στὸν Ἅδη, τὴν ἀχρήστευση ὅ ου τοῦ κόσμου, ἀ ὰ καὶ τὸ με οντικὸ ἀνακαινισμὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου. Αὐτὴ ἡ ἀνακαίνιση ἐνεργήθηκε μὲ τὴν ἐνανθρώπηση τοῦ Θεοῦ, τὴν κατάβαση στὸν Ἅδη τοῦ Χριστοῦ διὰ τοῦ θανάτου καὶ τὴν ἀνάκληση τῶν ψυχῶν ἀπὸ αὐτὸν τὸ Σάββατο. Τελείωση τῆς ἑβδόμης μέρας εἶναι ἡ ὄγδοη ἡμέρα, ἡ Κυριακὴ κατὰ τὴν ὁποία ἔγινε ἡ ἀνάσταση τοῦ Κυρίου. Δὲν εἶναι μόνο ὄγδοη ἡμέρα, ἀ ὰ καὶ ἡ πρώτη τῶν ἔπειτα ἀπὸ αὐτή, γι αὐτὸ καὶ ὁ Μωϋσῆς τὴν ὀνόμασε ὄχι «πρώτη», ἀ ὰ «μία» ὡς ἀνώτερη ἀπὸ τὶς ἄ ες καὶ ὡς προοίμιο τῆς μιᾶς καὶ ἀνέσπερης ἡμέρας τοῦ μέ οντος αἰῶνος. Γι αὐτὸ καὶ ὁ Κύριος ἐμφανίσθηκε τὴν Κυριακή, τὴν ἡμέρα τῆς ἀναστάσεώς του, στοὺς μαθητές του, ἐνῶ ἀπουσίαζε ὁ Θωμᾶς. Καὶ πά ι στὴν ὄγδοη ἡμέρα, δηλαδὴ τὴν Κυριακή, (ποὺ τιμᾶμε σήμερα) στὸ ἴδιο σπίτι μὲ κλειστὲς τὶς πόρτες ἐμφανίζεται στὸ διστακτικὸ Θωμᾶ γιὰ νὰ τὸν ὁδηγήσει στὴ πίστη. Ἀπὸ τότε διαρκῶς ἡ Ἐκκλησία τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐπιτελεῖ τὶς συνάξεις, κυρίως τὶς Κυριακές. Καὶ γι αὐτὸ δὲν πρέπει κανεὶς νὰ ἀπουσιάζει ἀπὸ τὶς ἱερὲς καὶ θεοπαράδοτες συνάξεις καὶ ἐγκαταλειφθεῖ δίκαια ἀπὸ τὸν Θεὸ καὶ πάθει κάτι παρόμοιο μὲ τὸν Θωμᾶ, ποὺ δὲν ἦ θε στὴν ὥρα του. Ὁ Θωμᾶς ὅταν ἦταν ἀπῶν ἀπὸ τὴ σύναξη, ἔγινε ἄπιστος, ὅταν δὲ ἐπανῆ θε μὲ τοὺς πιστεύοντας, τότε δὲν ἀστόχησε στὴ πίστη του. Ἑπομένως νὰ ἐπισκεπτόμαστε συχνὰ τὴν Ἐκκλησία τὶς Κυριακὲς σχολάζοντας ἀπὸ τὰ ἐπίγεια ἔργα μας, χωρὶς ἀπουσίες γιὰ νὰ λαβαίνουμε τὴν εἰρήνη καὶ νὰ αὐξάνουμε τὴν πίστη μας.

The same day, the Greek Independence Parade will be held in downtown Boston. Let all of us participate and celebrate together the anniversary of our Greek Independence Day. Immediately after the Divine Liturgy, you can board the bus in the parking lot of the Cathedral, which will take us to the parade and back to the Cathedral, after its end. ANNUNCIATION CATHEDRAL AND THE BOSTON HOMELESS VETERANS: The next service day at the Homeless Veterans Shelter is on Monday, May 15 at 4:15 pm. All volunteers are welcome.
