2 Orthros: Sunday, September 7, 2014 Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom 8:45 AM 10:00 AM On September 7 we commemorate the Dormition of devout St. Luke, from the eparchy of Lycaonia, the third abbot of the Monastery of the Savior, which is called Deep Stream; the holy Martyr Sozon; the holy Apostles Evodos and Onisiphoros; St. Efpsichios died by the sword. Resurrectional APOLYTIKION Mode 4 When the women Disciples of the Lord had learned from the Angel the joyful message of the Resurrection and had rejected the ancestral decision, they cried aloud to the Apostles triumphantly: Death has been despoiled, Christ God has risen, granting His great mercy to the world. APOLYTIKION for the Forefeast Unto us is born today Mary the child of God, as the branch from Jesse's root, and as the fruit of David's loins, and all creation is recreated and deified. O heaven and the earth, rejoice in unison. Sing praises unto her, O all you Gentile clans. Joachim is exultant, and Anna is keeping festival, crying out: "The barren woman bears the Theotokos, the nourisher of our Life." APOLYTIKION of Annunciation Today is the beginning of our salvation, The revelation of the eternal mystery! The Son of God becomes the Son of the Virgin As Gabriel announces the coming of Grace. Together with him let us cry to the Theotokos: Rejoice, O Full of Grace, The Lord is with You! Seasonal KONTAKION Today the Virgin and Mother of God, Mary, the untouched bridal chamber of the heavenly Bridegroom is being brought to birth from barren womb by God s counsel, to be made ready as the chariot of the Word of God; for to this she was predestined, the gate of God and Mother of true life.

3 THE EPISTLE READING St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18 Prokeimenon. Mode pl. 2. Psalm 27 (28). O Lord, save Your people, and bless Your inheritance; and shepherd them, and raise them up forever. Brethren, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bearon my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen. 4 THE GOSPEL READING The Gospel of John 3:13-17 The Lord said, "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him." COMMUNITY CALENDAR HELLENIC WOMAN S CLUB: We will kick off the new year with our Annual Spaghetti Dinner, Wednesday September 10 at 6:30pm. We begin baking on Wednesday, September 17 at 9am. We love having new hands in the kitchen! AHEPA: AHEPA Legacy Banquet tickets are now available. This is the October 18th event that a lot of people have been talking about. Please plan to join us as we recognize our many AHEPAn brothers that have contributed more than a quarter of a century (and in many cases more than half a century) of service to this community. This will be a fun social event with a fantastic dinner and bar, speaker, and live Greek music and dancing through the evening. In the first week more than half of these tickets have already been claimed, so please contact an AHEPAn brother to reserve yours right away. Our first board meeting will take place on September 10 at 6:30pm at the AHEPA Lodge House. Please take note that this first board meeting is out of the typical meeting cycle.
