OXI DAY PROGRAM NEXT SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 The October 28th Celebration will be next Sunday, November 1, after church services. As mentioned earlier the Greek School students will present a multidisciplinary performance similar to the program presented on March 25th. It will include a skit entitled "Greece at War," an historical reenactment entitled "Women from Epiros," and Greek dances. Also, Professor A. N. Yiannopoulos will be a participant at the celebration. He will share important information recorded in his personal diary. Remaining practice sessions are as follow: Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Saturday, October 31, 2015 during Greek School class All children must be present for the remaining practices, which will take place on the stage in the gymnasium. Final rehearsal will be Saturday, October 31. SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL NEWS A new class, the Sunday Church School Nursery, just began for little ones under the age of three (3) with Elaine Nugent as its teacher. Please feel free to register your child today for this new class. Registration forms are available in each classroom, which presents parents a perfect opportunity to ensure that all children are registered for Sunday Church School. 3 PHILOPTOCHOS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS One way to fight breast cancer is to be aware. Philoptochos members are in support of breast cancer awareness by wearing pink today. PHILOPTOCHOS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 The annual reception honoring the Philoptochos patron saints, Saints Cosmas and Damian, will take place on November 1 after church services. Cosmas and Damian were born of wealthy parents and educated in the best schools, receiving training in medicine. They were apostles of Christ and physicians of both the body and soul, who pledged never to accept payment of any kind for their services. They healed thousands through the miracle of prayer and medicine. The Ladies Philoptochos Society members strive to make a difference in the lives of others, following the example of their patron saints. SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON Senior citizens are invited to the next Senior Citizens Luncheon on Thursday, November 12, at 11:30 am in the Coffee Room. Chef John Koniditsiotis is planning a Thanksgiving menu including turkey and dressing. Mark your calendar now to make plans to attend this special event. THANKSGIVING BASKET Philoptochos is asking you to please make a donation to support a Holy Trinity Cathedral family at Thanksgiving. Tabitha the Merciful Commemorated on October 25 St. Tabitha was a virtuous and kindly woman, who belonged to the Christian community in Joppa. She was known for her good deeds and almsgiving. Having become grievously ill, she suddenly died. At that time, the Apostle Peter was preaching at Lydda, not far from Joppa. Messengers were sent to him with an urgent request for help. When the Apostle arrived at Joppa, Tabitha was already dead. On bended knee, St. Peter made a fervent prayer to the Lord. Then, he went to the bed and called out, Tabitha, get up! She arose, completely healed (Acts 9:36). St. Tabitha is considered the patron saint of tailors and seamstresses since she was known for sewing coats and other garments (Acts 9:39). Message from Father George ON THE SIXTH SUNDAY OF LUKE - LUKE 8:27-39 The story from today s Gospel lesson reminds us all that God s Love and Power are stronger and more desirable than the power of darkness and destruction. We live amid great confrontations. We ought not allow our relationship with God stoop to the level of confrontation as did the possessed man from among the Gadarenes. Though the devil may have a powerful hold, there is no power on earth, including the power of evil, that cannot be overcome by the Loving - Saving Power of God. Praying for the Holy Spirit to be ever present in our lives is of the utmost importance for it is the Grace of God that is available to us through the Holy Spirit. After being released from Satan s hold, the man formerly known as Legion begged Him that he might be with Him. But, Jesus sent him away saying, Return to your own house and tell what great things God has done for you. And, he went his way and proclaimed throughout the city what great things Jesus had done for him. And, so it is with us. The Holy Spirit of God can remove any evil that may disturb your Spiritual growth. Pray for wisdom and protection and first seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; blessings and peace will be opened up to you. The closing line from today s Gospel lesson is important for all of us. After we have experienced Christ in our lives through the liturgy, we should Return to your own house and tell what great things God has done for you and proclaim throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for you. LAKEVIEW VETERANS' DAY PARADE A special Veterans' Day Parade is being organized in Lakeview, and the Cathedral office was asked to share the information with parishioners. Please take time to read the patriotic notices posted in the Hellenic Cultural Center. The parade, slated for Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 10:00 am, is a celebration of the men and women who served and/or are currently serving in the nation's Armed Forces. Parade registration forms are available in the Narthex for those interested in participating. Entry deadline is Tuesday, November 3.

4 HELLENIC DANCE FESTIVAL The Hellenic Dance Festival will be held in Orlando, Florida, January 15-18, 2016, at Rosen Shingle Creek. New costumes are being purchased for the competition, and dancers within the parish are encouraged to participate in this annual project developed in the Metropolis of Atlanta. THE EPISTLE Galatians 2:16-20 O Lord, how manifold are your works. You have made all things in wisdom. Bless the Lord, O my soul. BRETHREN, you know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. THE GOSPEL Luke 8:27-39 At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me." For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but he sent him away, saying, "Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
