He urges you to get the Achaeans with the Heads of Hair Growing Long Under arms as quickly as possible, For right now you can seize the City of the Wide Streets of the Trojans, Because the Immortals dwelling in Olympian abodes are no longer divided as to purpose. For a silly man would think he was going to seize the city of Priam on that very day, And did not know what Zeus had in mind. For as yet he intended to put pain and suffering on both The Trojans and the Danaäns by means of mighty battles.

The Unflinching Tireless is He who promised me, and nodded his head in assent, That before departing the Well-Walled Ilion would be destroyed utterly. But now he has devised an evil trick and urges me to return to Argos With shameful things after destroying many men.

About the foolish manner the Achaean men waged, And they themselves fought, such a very unprofitable war Against fewer men, and as yet there is not any end in sight.

And we Achaeans divided and marshalled ourselves in tens, And each of us chose a man to pour out wine for the drinking for a Trojan, Many of our tens would lack a cupbearer.

But there many allies from the many cities, spear wielding men, They are a big thing turning me aside, and they are unwilling to allow The destruction of the well inhabited citadel of Ilion. Nine of the Great God s years have departed, And the planks of the ships have become rotten, and their ropes have become slackened.
