Naoussa, 17 September 2014 PRESS RELEAS Subject: 11 th Naoussa International Film Festival: NEVER PAUSE The Cinema is changing. It is always new. It is moving. All over the world. Naoussa International Film Festival is moving as well. Naoussa International Film Festival has managed, after 11 years, to be the most important short film festival in the Southeastern Europe, to be constantly in the forefront and embody a sustainable development model. In Naoussa International Film Festival, we never pause. 220 enjoyable short films from 50 countries will be hosted during the 11 th edition, September 24 to 28, at the rejuvenated former industrial building of Vetlans- Eria. The opening ceremony has been scheduled for the Wednesday, 24 September 2014 at 21:00. The rich program of parallel events includes, screening of the best of from previous festival editions, educational and recreational events addressing to children and young people, photography graphic art exhibition, seminars, theatrical plays for children, 3D movie, social and environmental sensitization activities, concerts of modern Greek musicians (VEGAS, Los Mojeros, The Balguns, Breaking Band), a two- day conference about Children and Cinema, several contests and surprises for the audience, with free entrance for every event. The Festival is prepared by the civil, non profitable company Naoussa International Film Festival and is funded by the National Strategic Reference Framework and the Regional Operational Programme Macedonia Thrace with the co-financing of Greece and the European Union. It is organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Region of Central Macedonia Imathia Regional. Also the Festival is utilized with the collaboration of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, the Laboratory of International Relations and European Integration of the University of Macedonia and the Municipality of Naoussa.
Naoussa International Film Festival is at the forefront of developments in the area of cinema, by investing in tomorrow s digital cinema. Today, NIFF is the only film festival in Greece and one of the few in Southeast Europe possessing modern digital cinema infrastructure with stereoscopic (3D) capabilities, making the best of the support it receives by investing in innovation and by preparing tomorrow. On the same time NIFF hosts on its screens cinema s tomorrow by presenting short films by young creators from all over the world. Nowadays, Naoussa International Film Festival is a model event, as far as creating development through culture, is concerned. The festival, by utilizing a pioneer model of development, based on innovation and cultural activity, enhances the development of the region and turns culture into a tool for development, thus contributing to social education and welfare. In this critical period of time for our country, Naoussa International Film Festival constitutes a note of optimism which can give hope to the new generation. A generation which does not compromise, which has hopes, has visions and makes plans for the future, a future brighter, more humane and more prosperous. Vitality energy and enthusiasm are mixed together with professionalism, responsibility and good governance to create an enjoyable celebration of culture. THE 11 th EDITION During the course of the 11 th Festival, there are numerous fiction, experimental and animation movies about to be projected. There will also be a special section, including student and youth movies, named SEE Talents Student Films, presenting the alternative viewpoint of young directors from South-Eastern Europe. This year, we have started a pilot program of short film with students from local schools in cooperation with the Imathia Directorate of Primary education. This new activity entitled NIFF GOES TO SCHOOL intents to consist an educational tool contributing to the healthy development of childrens s personality. The first two movies where, young cinematographers are starring, produced by NIFF will be projected on Sunday 28 September 2014 at 21:30, ERIA building. The innovative section consisting of movies made with the use of mobile phones will be for yet another year in the center of interest, proving once more that modern technology offers young creators a wide range of possibilities, through which they are able to reach their potential.
NIFF inaugurates its collaboration with the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation by presenting of the movie Troades (Based on Euripides play) by Michael Cacoyannis and music by Mikis Theodorakis. At the central exhibition room of the Festival the photo exhibition Crisis is a greek word will be presented. It consists a global initiative of Greek designers, to describe the situation in Greece during the economic crisis. Another environmental photography exhibition will be held at the same place under the title "2nd Green Project Moving Photo Exhibition: Greek New Talent" in the framework of 2014 Green Project in South America. This exhibition has been put under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, the Greek Ministry of Environment Energy and Climate Change, the Regulatory Authority for Energy and Goulandris Museum of Natural History. Also, in the frames of the Child and Cinema programme, educational and entertaining activities for the young friends of the Festival will be organized. A 3D film THE LORAX will be presented. Furthermore, our little friends, along with their parents, will have the opportunity to watch the music fairytail Whose sea is this? performed by Dimitra Mitrentsi and Giannis Marmaras playing live music with the company of the stars! Moreover, the can enjoy the presentation of two theatrical plays, The poet and the myths who have made a fairytale by the team SXINI-KORDONI and the Greem Brothers fairytales by Fotis Spirou. Finally for another year we create the Kid s corner where the little friends of the festival will be offered the chance to engage with several educational and entertaining activities. For our selective friends who love cinema, we have chosen twenty of the best films distinguished during the previous editions and will present them in special screening in the roof of the BETLANS building under the starry sky with view to Vermion Mountain for twenty lucky cinefils. They will have the opportunity to make a journey in the magic of cinema, with the Best of NIFF under the Stars! Also, two open discussions will be opened for audience, where people associated with cinema will answer to any questions the public may have. At the closing of every day, by the end of the screenings, concerts will be held in the Municipal Park of Naoussa with music bands. Music by VEGAS, Los Mujeros, The Balguns, Breaking Band will travel the audience in a dream melodic journey. Two parallel competitions will be running on a daily basis. The photo contest entitled my festival is about to give the public the opportunity to capture with their cameras special Festival moments. At the same time, a quiz competition (Cine Quiz) with cinema as its theme, will test the
public s knowledge around the latter. The best photographers along with the all-knowing cinema guru s will win useful prizes. During the first two days of the Festival, a conference under the title Child and Cinema will be organized. The event targets to sensitize public regarding the film affection over childhood and adolescence as well as to underline the dynamics provided when cinema is used as an educational tool contributing to the healthy development of children s personality. Naoussa International Film Festival promotes its social responsibility by organizing actions to support our suffering fellowmen. The Festival will support financially the social initiative of Mom in action, while on the same time ensures the easy access and participation of people with special needs to the event. With the all the above mentioned and by establishing free entrance to all events the Festival supports people in spiritual and financial level.
