2016 STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY MARCH 13 STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY The Stewardship Committee thanks all parishioners, who already returned their completed 2016 Stewardship Commitment Cards to the Cathedral office. It is the goal of the committee to have the majority submitted by Sunday, March 13, 2016, which is designated as Stewardship Sunday. On that day a special tray will be passed at the end of Divine Liturgy to collect the cards. Even parishioners, who have made 2016 pledges, are asked to complete and submit their cards to verify stewardship records. In the interim, contact Stewardship Chairperson Nicholas Bouzon or the Cathedral office, if you have any questions. Also, Holy Trinity again offers the opportunity for stewards to sponsor a day or a half day on the Church s calendar with a minimum pledge of $1,000 or $500, respectively. GREEK FESTIVAL PASTRY WORKSHOPS The Greek Festival Pastry Committee invites all ladies and gentlemen to assist them in preparing pastries each Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, except Holy Week. Everyone is needed, so join the group for fellowship and lunch as the pastries are prepared. Thank you for supporting this endeavor. OCMC MISSION APPEAL Christine and Manoli Ioannidis registered to participate on an Orthodox Christian Missions Center trip to Guatemala this April. They are asking the community to help raise funds for their mission work as it is costly ($1,345 per person plus airfare of approximately $700-800 per person). The purpose of the visit was to provide a community engagement opportunity for the students, who will soon become the physicians, dentists, physical therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals of the future. The first that comes to mind is, of course, the reception of Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive the Gifts regularly, after we prepare ourselves both physically and spiritually. We are instructed to fast physically from foods according to the teachings of the Holy Church and through specific instruction of our Spiritual Father. We prepare ourselves spiritually through our regular prayer regimen and meditation on the Word of God (our personal Bible/Scripture study) and through participation in the spiritually uplifting and cleansing Sacrament of Penance (Holy Confession). Through our practice of abstinence, we are also instructed to reach out to those in need to offer mercy and charity. We must not reduce our preparation for receiving the Gift of the Holy Eucharist to fasting from foods alone! There are other things in our Orthodox world that transmit the precious Grace of God to the faithful, among them are miraculous wonderworking icons. There have been many chronicled instances of icons exuding myrrh and oils that cannot be explained scientifically, but the Church determined that for whatever reason this is a sign of God s Grace, and many people have been miraculously healed after been anointed with this oil. Often, simply the presence of an icon of the Lord or the Theotokos has blessed people or cities in a unique and humanly undefinable way. The wonderworking Icon of the Mother of God, known as the Kursk Root Icon, is one of these icons. It will be making its second visit to Saint John the Theologian Russian Orthodox Mission in Saint Francisville, Louisiana. Father Matthew Harrington will be hosting the icon and its handlers and will celebrate an Akathist Service on the evening of May 17, 2016. Father Matthew invites all to come and venerate the icon. We are hoping to make arrangements through the ECYM (Education, Culture, and Youth Ministry) to provide a van or small bus to make this two-hour trip easier for our Cathedral family. We will have to see how many would like to travel by bus, and a price per person will then be determined. Throughout the life of the Church, God has allowed these things to happen to bless us. We encourage you to join us on May 17 for this mini-pilgrimage to visit the Kursk Root Icon.

THE EPISTLE I Corinthians 6:12-20 Brethren, "all things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything. "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food" -- and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two shall become one flesh." But he who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body and in your spirit which belong to God. THE GOSPEL Luke 15:11-32 The Lord said this parable: "There was a man who had two sons; and the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.' And he divided his living between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living. And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want. So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have fed on the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants.' And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet; and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry; for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to make merry. Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants and asked what this meant. And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.' But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, but he answered his father, 'Lo, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command; yet you never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!' And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'"
