For in His goodness He was pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to undergo death, and to raise up those who had died, by His glorious Resurrection. Kontakion Let us flee the Pharisee's exalted parlance; let us learn the Publican's humble demeanor, and with sighs unto the Savior cry out and say, To us be gracious, O only forgiving Lord. Save me, O Lord, for the godly Σὺ ὅμως, παρακολούθησες τὴν διδασκαλίαν μου, τὸν τρόπον τῆς ζωῆς, τὴν πρόθεσιν, τὴν πίστιν, τὴν 2

man has failed. The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to Timothy 3:10-15. TIMOTHY, my son, you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions, my sufferings, what befell me at Antioch, at lconion, and at Lystra, what persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. μακροθυμίαν, τὴν ἀγάπην, τὴν ὑπομονήν, τοὺς διωγμούς, τὰ π α θ ή ματα, τ ὰ ὁ ποῖ α μ οῦ συνέβησαν εἰς τὴν Ἀντιόχειαν, εἰς τὸ Ἰκόνιον, εἰς τὰ Λύστρα. Πόσους διωγμοὺς ὑπέφερα καὶ ἀπὸ ὅλα μὲ ἔσωσεν ὁ Κύριος. Καὶ ὅλοι ὅσοι θέλουν νὰ ζήσουν εὐσεβῶς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ θὰ διωχθοῦν. Πονηροὶ ὅμως ἄνθρωποι καὶ ἀπατεῶνες θὰ προκόψουν εἰς τὸ χ ε ι ρ ότερον π λαν ῶ ν τ ε ς κα ὶ πλανώμενοι. Σὺ ὅμως, μένε εἰς ἐκεῖνα ποὺ ἔμαθες καὶ διὰ τὰ ὁποῖα ἀπέκτησες βεβαιότητα, διότι ξέρεις ἀπὸ ποιόν τὰ ἔμαθες, καὶ διότι ἀπὸ τῆς βρεφικῆς ἡλικίας ξέρεις τὰ ἱερὰ γράμματα, τὰ ὁποῖα ἔχουν τὴν δύναμιν νὰ σὲ ὁδηγήσουν εἰς τὴν σοφίαν πρὸς σωτηρίαν διὰ τῆς πίστεως τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ. GOSPEL - LUKE 18:10-14 ΚΑΤᾺ ΛΟΥΚᾶΝ 18:10-14 The Lord said this parable, "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted." «Δύο ἄνθρωποι ἀνέβηκαν εἰς τὸν ναόν, διὰ νὰ προσευχηθοῦν, ὁ ἕνας ἦτο Φαρισαῖος καὶ ὁ ἄλλος τελώνης. Ὁ Φαρισαῖος ἐστάθηκε καὶ ἔκανε τὴν ἑξῆς προσευχὴν ἐν σχέσει πρὸς τὸν ἑαυτόν του: «Θεέ, σὲ εὐχαριστῶ, διότι δὲν εἶμαι ὅπως οἱ ἄλλοι ἄνθρωποι, ἅρπαγες, ἄδικοι, μοιχοὶ ἢ ὅπως αὐτὸς ἐδῶ ὁ τελώνης. Νηστεύω δυὸ φορὲς τὴν ἑβδομάδα, δίνω τὸ δέκατον ἀπὸ ὅλα, ὅσα ἀποκτῶ». Ὁ τελώνης ὅμως ἐστεκότανε μακρυὰ καὶ δὲν ἤθελε οὔτε τὰ μάτια του νὰ σηκώσῃ εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἀλλ ἐκτυποῦσε τὸ στῆθός του καὶ ἔλεγε, «Θεέ, ἐλέησέ με τὸν ἁμαρτωλόν». Σᾶς λέγω, ὅτι αὐτὸς κατέβηκε εἰς τὸ σπίτι του δικαιωμένος ἀπὸ τὸν Θεὸν παρά ὁ ἄλλος. Διότι ὅποιος ὑψώνει τὸν ἑαυτόν του θὰ ταπεινωθῇ, καὶ ἐκεῖνος ποὺ ταπεινώνει τὸν ἑαυτόν του θὰ ὑψωθῇ». OLD TESTAMENT - 2 SAMUEL 12:1-10, 13 And the Lord sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter. And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him. And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die: And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity. And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. The first Greek Festival meeting is scheduled for Weds, Feb 27th at 7:00pm. Saturday of Souls, sponsored by the Ladies Philoptochos, will take place on Saturday, March 2nd. Perry will be making a visit to the UConn Campus on Monday, March 4th. All Orthodox students are welcome to join us for Vespers in the Three Hierarchs Chapel at 6:00pm followed by a discussion & dinner. The next AHEPA Dinner of the Month is set for Monday, March 4th at 7:00pm. $30 per person, includes hors d oeuvres, beer & wine, and a family-style dinner. March s dinner features pork. Proceeds help to support AHEPA s Scholarship Fund. Please make reservations in the church office - get together a table of 8 or 10, bring friends & family! Greek Dance Practices begin on Tuesday, March 5th (date change due to a scheduling conflict). The Greek School program will follow on Sunday, March 24th. Scholarship Opportunities: AHEPA/DOP District 7 Scholarship Applications are now available. These scholarships are for students currently attending college or postgraduate schoollook for the green folder on the wall in the office. All applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2019. AHEPA Chapter 48 Scholarship Applications are also now available. This scholarship is for current high school seniors as well as current undergraduate students. Copies are also in the green folder on the wall. The deadline to submit this application is Sunday, May 12, 2019.
