Dear Parishioners, GREEK FEST 2009 Explore the treasures of Greece - OUR 29 TH ANNIVERSARY. Despite some adverse conditions, namely the minor rainfall on Thursday and Friday and the struggling U.S. economy, we managed to pull off another successful Greek Fest. We can be proud of our coming together for the common good of our Community, as we have done for so many years. Certainly a sizeable financial profit will be realized which will go toward funding the many ministries of St. George as well as capital improvements, most notably new carpet and tile in the Banquet Hall. Other needed projects are being appraised. This is all possible because of your hard work!!!! Honestly, how blessed we are to have such true stewards in our community! So many of you ignored your household chores and family responsibilities, postponed vacations, even neglected your businesses so that you could work the Fest. Many of you sold your allotted raffle tickets or bought them yourselves choosing not to return unsold tickets to the office while others made outright cash donations. What a tribute to the dedication of our members!!! And why do all this? Because you love your Church and you understand that our only fundraiser of the year must be successful; the financial well being of our Church depends on it! Those who were shut-in and prayed for the Fest s success, we thank you. You were with us in spirit. THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart! Very special thanks are extended to our festival co-chairmen Mr. Tom Kouros and Parish Council President, Mr. Danny Tzotzos for their inspiring and humble leadership. In some small way, I pray the sweat and fatigue experienced by so many of you wonderful parishioners became an acceptable offering of love to our patron saint St. George the Great Martyr. May he intercede with petitions of salvation for each and every one of you. Above all, we thank our Triune God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit for His abundant and rich THE FIFTEEN DAYS OF AUGUST Pray to the Mother of God. She will intercede for you in this life, and, after death, she will help you pass through the tollhouses and reach the heavenly Kingdom. So writes St. Barsanuphius of Optina and in doing so encapsulates the mindset of Orthodox Christians especially during the fifteen days of August. GREEK SCHOOL REGISTRATION With God's help we will soon begin the new 2009-2010 school year. The Greek School offers our children the opportunity to learn our beautiful Greek language, history, heritage, and customs. Parents with children 5-14 are encouraged to register their children in our Greek School. Children ages 5-6 are eligible to attend kindergarten. Children ages 7-14 will be assigned to their appropriate grade levels. There will also be a Conversation Greek Class again this year. Greek School classes will begin on Tuesday, September 8 th. Book Fee - $20.00 Tuition Fee - $100.00 1 st and 2 nd child
$75.00 3 rd child $50.00 4 th child Fifth child or more would be no charge. You may register your child in the Church Office daily 8:30 a.m. 4:15 p.m. Or for your convenience, you may fill out a Greek School Registration form included in this newsletter and mail it in with your tuition payment. Remember you must have paid your (minimum) pledge in full for 2009 in order to enroll your child/children. We look forward to seeing you all again soon! Agiasmo (Holy Water Blessing) Service and Open House for the Greek School will take place on Sunday, September 13 th after Divine Liturgy. SUNDAY SCHOOL Once again, the Sunday School of St. George is in need of Teachers for the upcoming school year. Interested persons should contact the Church Office or see the Sunday School Director, Mr. Peter E. Bakas, as soon as possible. For your convenience, Sunday School Teacher Applications are available by the Pangari and on the shelf in front of the Church Office and also in this month s newsletter. Please turn in the application by August 26, 2009. Sunday School begins on Sunday, September 13 th, with an Agiasmo Service following the Divine Liturgy. All students are to report to Church at 10:00 a.m. Preschool ages 3-5 begin at 10:00-10:50 a.m. 10:50-11:30a.m. Students report to Church for Communion with their parents. 11:30 a.m.-dismissal of Divine Liturgy, pre-k students return back to class. Grades K-10 th, all students are to report to Church at 10:00 a.m. After Father s Sunday School lesson, they will be dismissed for Sunday School from 11:30-12:30. Dr. Kerrie Panagas will inform children when Jr. Choir practice will take place. SUNDAY SCHOOL REGISTRATION Please fill out and return the Sunday School Registration form found in this newsletter and return to the Church office. Registration fee is $20.00 per child. Please be reminded that your 2009 Stewardship MUST be paid in full prior to registration. Deadline for registration is Friday, September 25 th. SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL MEETING The Summer Sunday School Meeting will take place on Sunday, August 30 th immediately following the Divine Liturgy. The New Philoptochos board has been working over the summer preparing for an exciting year. September will be our kick off for the new year with our "Embrace" campaign. Be sure to watch for our meeting date and mark your calendar to join us for the meeting and fellowship. We will also be hosting a Membership Tea so if you are not yet part of the Philoptochos consider attending the tea and become one of our new members August is an important month in our spiritual growth. We hope to see many of our Philoptochos members participate and attend the Paraklisis Services to the Theotokos as we pray to the Mother of God during the the "15 days of August". ΤΟ ΠΑΝΗΓΥΡΙ ΤΗΣ ΕΚΚΛΗΣΙΑΣ ΜΑΣ 2009 Το πανηγυρι της Εκκλησιας µας ηταν οπως καθε χρονο µια διαχειριση αγαπης. Καθε ετος βλεπω µε συγκινηση ολους σας, τα πνευµατικα µου τεκνα και αφοσιωµενοι ενοριτες του Αγιου Γεωρ γιου, να ενωνετε τις προσπαθιες σας δινοντας και κανοντας τα παντα να εξασφαλισετε την επι τυχια του Φεστιβαλ µας. Προσφερετε τον ιδρωτα σας και τον κοπο σας σαν µια ιερη θυσια στον Θεον και στην αγια Του Εκκλησια!!! Οντως, και χωρις υπερβολη, ο µοχθος σας ειναι µια εκφρα ση της αφοσιωσεως και της αγαπης σας για την Εκκλησια σας µια διαχειριση χρονου και ταλεντου!!! Εγω, σαν ιερεα σας, βλεπω ντας τοσους απο σας να προσφερνετε ελευθερα πολυαριθµες ωρες κοπου και µοχθου µπορω να αισθανθω µονο περιφανεια και ευγνωµοσυνη. εχθητε απο βαθος της καρδιας µου µε ειλικρι νεια το ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΩ µου για ολα τα οποια προσ φερετε για την Εκκλησια σας. Ο Θεος να σας εχει καλα και να σας ευλογει πλουσιως καθε ηµερα της ζωης σας!!! ΚΑΙ ΤΟΥ ΧΡΟΝΟΥ! ΕΚΑΠΕΝΤΑΥΓΟΥΣΤΟ Εφτασε το εκαπενταυ γουστο και φετος δινοντας σε ολους την ευκαι ρια να νηστεψουµε και να προσευχηθουµε τις ωραιες Παρακλησεις προς την Θεοτοκον. Καθε βραδυ στις 7:00 Μ.Μ. θα ψαλουµε την Μεγαλη η Μικρη Παρακλησις ζητωντας απο τον Χριστο και Θεο µας την υγεια της ψυχης και του σωµα τος µας δια των πρεσβειων της Θεοµητορος την Υπεραγιαν Θεοτοκον. Εχουµε βιβλια διγλωσσα µε την Ακολουθια γραµµενη για να συµψαλλουν ολοι µαζυ. Παρακαλεισθε να γραψετε τα ονοµα τα των προσφιλων συγγενων και φιλων σας στην φορµα που βρισκετε στο δελτιο αυτο καθως και στο Παγκαρι. Μην υποτιµατε την δυναµη της προσευχης και την θεραπεια ψυχης και σωµατος που την συνοδευει. Ο Χριστος και Θεος µας ειν αιπολυ κοντα µας. Ειναι ο πανταχου παρων. Τ ο Πνευµα Του γεµιζει τα πνευµονια µας και µας δινει την ζωη. Με τις πολλες καθηµερινες δυσκο λι ες της βιοπαλης, η προσευχη στο οικο του Θε ου ειναι σαν δροσερη βροχη για την διψαµενη µ ας ψυχη. Εχουµε αναγκη απο βοηθεια στο Συµβουλιο, στο Κατηχητικο Σχολειο, στο Συλλογο Γονεων και ιδασκαλων (ΠΤΑ), στα προγραµµατα της νεολαιας, κτλ.τηλεφωνησετε στον π.
