Λειτ: 10:00πµ 28 29 30 31 Ελληνικό Σχολείο 3:30-7:00µµ ΓΕΝΙΚΗ ΣΥΝΕΛΕΥΣΗ Ο ΝΑΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΑΓΙΟΥ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ Ο ΆΆγιος Δημήτριος είναι ο ναός στη μνήμη του μεγαλομάρτυρα και πολυούχου της Θεσσαλονίκης Δημητρίου. Ο ΆΆγιος Δημήτριος κατασκευάστηκε για πρώτη φορά το 313 μ.χ. αλλά μετά την πυρκαγιά του 612 που αποτέφρωσε το ναό, ξανακτίστηκε και διατηρήθηκε μέχρι το 1917 όποτε και κάηκε σχεδόν ολοκληρωτικά. Το 1926 άρχισε η ανοικοδόμησή του και τελείωσε το 1948. Μετά την άλωση της Κωνσταντινούπολης και μέχρι το 1912 ο ναός είχε μεταβληθεί από τους Τούρκους σε τζαμί. Ο ΆΆγιος Δημήτριος στη θεσσαλονίκη είναι ένα από τα πιο υπέροχα μνημεία της Ελληνικής Ανατολής. Είναι αντιπροσωπευτικός τύπος βασιλικής πεντάκλιτης με εγκάρσιο κλίτος. Αν και έχουν περάσει τόσοι αιώνες από τον καιρό της κατασκευής της και έχει ταλαιπωρηθεί από τον χρόνο, σεισμούς, πυρκαγιές, και αναστηλώσεις, διατηρεί τη γνησιότητα και το πνεύμα της μεγαλοφροσύνης πού ξεχωρίζει την αρχιτεκτονική της εποχής, καθώς και την έξοχη και διαχρονική καλλιτεχνική αξία και αισθητική, όπως μπορούμε να κρίνουμε από όσα μέρη διεσώθησαν. Στην κρυπτή του ναού λειτουργεί μια μουσειακή έκθεση με την γλυπτή διακόσμηση του ναού στις διάφορες φάσεις της ιστορίας του. 2

Parish News Bingo Our church bingo operation is looking for a new Bingo Treasurer. The position will only require a few hours of your time per month. If you are interested in helping our parish with this important fundraising group, please contact Costa Georgopoulos or Teddy Rokas at the church office 623-2045. Roof Fundraiser Living in New England, the weather is not kind to buildings and our Church is no exception. Our current roof has serious issues that are allowing water into the church. The Parish Council recognized this over a year ago and has spent the time to investigate the options of repairing the existing roof or replacing it. In that regard we have established a Roof Fundraising campaign to raise $50,000. Our goal is to raise these funds over the next two months so the work can be finished during the early summer before our Festival in August. Your generous donation will help cover the cost of replacing the roof in order to preserve our church. With the support of our parishioners, as well as the benevolence of community businesses and individuals we have raised so far over $35,000.00! We would like to thank you for your unlimited love and support that you have shown for our church, and would kindly ask for your support so that we can overcome this obstacle. General Assembly On Sunday, October 27th, following the coffee hour, we will have the Fall General Assembly. All the members in Good Standing are welcomed to attend, take part in its discussions and vote therein. Do not forget that through your participation, you take part in the administration of the Parish and in the direction of its life and activities. Autumn Bazaar The annual Autumn Bazaar will be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 2 & 3 rd. We need volunteers to work in the kitchen and at all of the other areas beverages, raffle, attic treasure, pastry, and penny sale. We also need donations of new items for the Penny Sale, items in good condition for ht Attic Treasures table, and pastry (ravani, karidopeta, paximathia, halva etc. not peta) PLEASE SUPPORT OUR BIGEST FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR! New Horizons Soup Kitchen 2013-2014 We are seeking new faces along with our committed parishioners to help with the Soup Kitchen ministry. We serve the homeless and poor dinner every 4 th Sunday of each month. It is approximately two hours long. We meet at the Soup Kitchen in the parking lot.
