Verse: Bring to the Lord, O sons of God, bring to the Lord honor and glory. The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:1-10. BRETHREN, working together with him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. Πρὸς Κορινθίους β' 6:1-10 Προκείμενον. Grave Mode. The Reading is from Luke 7:11-16 GOSPEL READING 3rd Sunday of Luke At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!" AHEPA "Harris J Booras" Ch. #406, Watertown, MA Greetings to all! "ENJOY OCTOBER, COLUMBUS DAY and the OXI Celebration!" Good news: According to an update from HHT Nicholas Nikas of District 7 our "Socrates" team of 3 -who won the HHT Trophy last year will re-try for a 2nd win this year! Details are being currently finalized. Due to intervening sad events (see below) and logistics we decided in our last meeting to postpone the Celebration and Benefit fundraiser (for the Metaxas Scholarships) in mid- October, 2016. Instead of conducting the event, we felt it would make more sense for our members and members of the Taxiarchae Watertown community to support the AHEPA Metaxas Scholarships by sending us donations in any amount towards this cause. On a very sad note for our AHEPA #406 Watertown chapter we informed our members and all the Watertown Community that our Brother, old friend and well known to all in the Watertown Church community, AHEPA Secretary, Thanasis Vulgaropulos suffered a massive stroke in mid-august. Thanasis is currently at the Kindred Hospital, 1515 Commonwealth Ave which is in close proximity (past St Elizabeth's Hospital on Warren St and an immediate right turn on the Commonwealth access road up the hill.) He will have a very difficult rehab and will need visitors to see him and give him support in this very hard period of his life, so we urge all who know him to visit him and show their support. Perastika! In addition, we announced the passing (on Aug. 31) of our Br. Panos Spiliakos who had served also as President of the Pan Macedonian association. AHEPA officers conducted the customary ceremony in his honor at his wake. Our meeting of Oct. 13, 2016 in the Atrium of the Taxiarchae Hellenic Cultural Center, 25 Bigelow Ave, Watertown, MA will begin at 7:00 pm with a Social half-hour with refreshments followed by the Main business meeting at 7:30 pm with the following agenda: Reports by the President, Secretary, Treasurer and other officers, followed by reports of Chapter Committees on coming activities and future plans. Remarks by visiting District / Regional and Supreme officers, if present. Processing of new membership applications, as submitted. Other items and future business, and Other proposals for the benefit of the Order of AHEPA To all our AHEPA members: Please, pay your Membership Dues ($70.) for 2016 if you have not done so. Thanks to all members who have already paid theirs! Please, recruit friends or family members who may be interested in joining AHEPA. All are welcomed! New innovative ideas are needed to sustain and expand our chapter membership and contribute to AHEPA s causes. Please, let us know if a brother is sick or in need. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How do I become a member of the parish? Membership in the Orthodox Church begins at baptism (Chrismation for some) and continues throughout our life. We are united with Christ through the sacraments, or mysteries of the Church and through our faithful offering of our entire selves to Jesus Christ. Our Archdiocese requires each parish to distinguish between voting members and non-voting members. A voting member is over 18 years of age and turns in a signed stewardship commitment card, committing a portion of time, talent and treasure to the Church. The Archdiocese also requires the voting member to remain current through the year on their commitments. Keep in mind that true membership in the Body of Christ involves living according to His word and with His Church. Why must I commit to give a specific amount? Please keep in mind that your stewardship of money is kept in the strictest of confidence. However, we do compile the amounts anticipated to better plan our budget. What if I cannot fulfill my stewardship commitment? During the course of a year, people s circumstances change. Your stewardship is valued because it is made out of your love for God and His Church. Please do not be concerned if you are unable to meet your stewardship commitment we are glad you are part of this parish. CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP IS: Learning how to be a responsible and concerned caretaker of Christ s Church; it is learning how to enjoy Church life and be happy in Church work, for in Her dwells the fullness of the Spirit of God. Our active commitment to use all our time, talent and treasure for the benefit of humankind in grateful acknowledgement of Christ s redeeming love. 2016 STEWARDSHIP COMMITMENT CARD INFORMATION Name Spouse Name (if applicable) Street Address City / State / Zip Code Home Phone Mobile Phone Email Address Spouse Email (if applicable) Dependent children s names and birthdates: May we include your contact info in the parish directory?
