We prepared for our Valentine s Koulourakia Bake Sale (the only fundraiser for 2016). It is through this event we meet our National Obligations which include supporting Domestic Violence Centers: Penelope House, Mobile, AL and Penelope s place, Brockton, MA and the Sjogren s Syndrome Foundation (a systematic autoimmune disease which attacks moisture producing glands in the body). We also have District obligations and support District Scholarships. Once these obligations are satisfied, we focus on local projects. This year, in addition to SSNCH we are supporting: Family Reach, an organization which has been helping families with a child or parent affected with cancer deal with the overwhelming financial and emotional burdens of the disease. They have offices in Parsippany, NJ and in Boston, MA. Brothers Tom Savvides and Peter Vardakis first introduced us to this worthwhile organization last fall. Sister Becky Vardakis gave us more information and insight and we unanimously agreed to make this our local charity. We are also revising our Scholarship program to reach more eligible students. Updates will be forthcoming. Marion Economo is chairing the community-wide Rummage Sale May 13-15. The Daughters along with the church ministries will be supporting the sale. The committee will be scheduling collection/donation dates. This event is for the benefit of SSNCH; therefore, we expect the support of everyone in the community. Details will be in Sunday Bulletins shortly. The meeting closed with honoring 20 year members. Helen Colathos, was presented with a pin commemorating her years of service, Bess Efstathiou also 20 years (Bess has relocated and her pin was sent to her home) Barbara Zois will receive her pin at our next meeting. Congratulations and thank you for your dedication and service. We welcome new members, if you were a member of a Daughters chapter and would like to reinstate, or just would like some information on our mission and purpose, please see any member of the Daughters. Our meetings are on the first Wed. of the month @ 7:00, the same day and time as our Brother AHEPAns. Marion Economo, President DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE #701 9
