GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH 435 KEATING DRIVE WINSTON-SALEM, NC 27104 ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED TIME SENSITIVE MATERIAL PLEASE EXPEDITE DECEMBER 2016 Non-Profit Organiz. U.S. Postage Winston-Salem, NC Permit # 168 I Have No Gift to Bring! Wait. There Is Exactly ONE Gift I CAN Bring! Excerpts from Let all creation rejoice Reflections for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. Fr. Stavros Akrotirianakis As we run around purchasing, wrapping, and delivering gifts for other people this Christmas, we must ask ourselves seriously and soberly, What gift am I offering to Him this Christmas? There are things I can give to other people. I can only GIVE BACK to God. So, when I am giving to charity, either to the church or to some charity; I am really giving back to God. He has blessed me with material resources and in giving to charity, I am giving a portion of them back. he has blessed me with time, so when I help another person, I am giving a portion of my time back to Him by helping them. At times, I feel like the drummer boy, searching for what I can truly GIVE to God that isn t giving back. I have come to realize that there IS ONE THING that we have that doesn t come from God. It is something that we have to cultivate on our own. God helps us in cultivating it. But having this one gift rests more with us than it does with Him. That gift is HUMILITY. There is only one gift I really have to give to Christ. It is the broken and humbled heart God will not despise (Ps. 50:17). Humility is a self-emptying proposition. It is humility that allows us to empty ourselves of anger and be filled with forgiveness towards someone else. It is humility that allows us to empty out pride and be filled with repentance towards Christ. It is humility that allows us to empty ourselves and be filled with Him. If you think about it, no one can have any of the fruits of the Spirit without humility. Because in order to be loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, etc., you have to empty yourself. You can t make it all about yourself and still have those things. In order to cultivate the fruits of the Spirit, one has to be filled with the Spirit. In order to be filled with the Spirit, one has to be rid of the things that spoil those fruits hate, anger, impatience, etc. In order to have faith, the first step is the humble recognition that someone greater than me made me, and therefore I am not the center of the universe, that I should be revolving around God, not the other way around. Humility makes it all about Him, and not about us. To seek to continually decrease in ego, desire and power and to be filled instead with humility is the most profound act of faith there can be. St. Paul writes in Galatians 2:20: I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. to live for Christ, to empty ourselves of our own desires and strive to follow after Him, this is humility. And it is humility that leads to glory. Remember the Parable of the Publican and the Pharisee, Jesus said everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted (Luke 18:14). Take a moment and ponder on what kind of heart you will bring to the manger this year one filled with pride? With pain? Or one filled with love, one filled with forgiveness, one filled with humility?

Ballas, Angelo & Georgia Ballas, Tommy & Dora Chrysson, Christopher & Jennifer Harris, Ted Kalanarhos, John Kiser, Jeff Papathanasiou, Louis Stamatiou, Evangelos & Athanasia 2016 STEWARDSHIP REPORT To date we have received 363 pledge cards OUR GOAL IS 410 PLEDGES STEWARDSHIP CORNER STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY - December 11 As the Father has sent me, so I send you John 20:21 With 2016 coming to an end, we are thankful to all of you, our stewards for your steadfast support and for your love of Annunciation, our Spiritual home. We thank all who have offered their TIME, TALENT and TREASURE in support of many Ministries of Annunciation as well as Ministries of the National Church. It looks like we will fall short of meeting our goal of 410 Stewardship Families (actual 363). We do have 5 more weeks and hope our numbers improve. With the addition of Fr. Costas to our Church staff and the improvement of coverage and services that it offers, we hope that ALL our Church families respond enthusiastically. This year we will be asking ALL to offer their Stewardship Cards on Sunday December 11, 18 & 25, depositing them in special trays by the Solea, in order to Visibly Show that STEWARDSHIP support is A CHOICE, A DECISION, A POSI- TIVE AND SPIRITUAL ACT. As always, the community is invited to a STEWARDSHIP LUNCHEON and program on Sunday, December 11th after services. A special guest will make his annual visit. Well ladies the Bake Sale for 2016 is over and what a wonderfully run event. I thank Angelic Carroll for chairing it again this year and for ALL the ladies who stepped up and volunteered for such a successful day. The ladies who chaired the pastry baking, the ones who came to help make the pastries every day that we worked, the young ladies who came to help put all the gift boxes together, the ladies who helped set up the hall and take it down. It takes many, many hands to do all this and the ones who worked worked hard! THANK YOU. As a president or head of any event or organization.the help that is provided by the group is invaluable. The comfort of those who offer their help and follow through is amazing. Again, thank you.
