U.S. Postage Winston-Salem, NC Permit # 168 Thanksgiving Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings, thank you Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf. Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank you Lord, that I can see. Many are blind. Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising, thank you Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden. Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned and tempers are short, my children are so loud, thank you Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely. Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in the magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced, thank you Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry. Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous, thank you Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job. Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest, thank you Lord, for life. Psalm of Thanksgiving I give You thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the angels I sing Your praise; I bow before Your holy presence and give thanks to Your name for Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness; For You have exalted above everything Your name and Your word. On the day I called, You answered You answered me; my strength of soul You increased. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You preserve my life; You stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my adversaries, and your right hand delivers me. The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. PSALM 138: 1-3,7-8

November is the month of the Thanksgiving holiday. And boy do we have so much to be thankful for. I am thankful for each of you, your hands in baking, your presence at our meetings, your hearts in supporting all the needs that are asked of us during the year, your love for fellow parishioners who are suffering. I am thankful for Father Demetri s leadership of our church as well as the parish council and our Philoptochos board who guides us throughout our year. I am thankful for Marika and Athena in the office who answer our questions and are there in a pinch to get our work done. I am thankful for Bryant and Sam who help us each and every week of our bake sale. And speaking of our Bake Sale. Angelic has overseen our efforts beautifully we are sooo fortunate to have her as our Chairman. This is our month for the sale.baking is going well.thank YOU for all the baking help so far. Pre Sale forms are ready so pre sell to your friends and neighbors. We ll be setting up and making final preparations the week of November 7 th. We will need lots of hands Tuesday through sale day Nov 12. During our Bake Sale day we re having two cooking demonstrations by Janis Karathanas. Please pass the word about this new addition to our sale. Sign up for a shift to help us out that day! Call me with any questions. I am so thankful for this community! Thank you for letting me be a part of it. With a thankful and full heart, Leigh Ladies of Philoptochos please remember to bring your cakes for the Bake Sale to the Fellowship Hall on Friday morning, November 11th. Be sure to label what kind of cake (listing ingredients is not necessary). Thank you so much for your support! Many thanks to Father Demetri, Father Costas and the entire community for all your thoughts and prayers for our family since Steven's arrest. The love and support we have received from everyone has been such a comfort to us all, and we are very grateful. It was wonderful to see so many people at the recent hearing, helping Jan and Steven get through that dif icult day. It is greatly appreciated. Now Steven has started serving the rest of his sentence, and we know that God has his hand on his shoulder and a plan for his life when he is released. We are so blessed to have such a loving community at Annunciation! Please also extend prayers to the family who lost their loved one in this tragedy. With love and gratitude, The Assimos family PARISH COUNCIL MEETING UPDATE The following items of note resulted from business discussed at the October 17, 2016 Parish Council meeting: We are in the process of replacing some of our lights in the Sunday School buildings with more energy efficient LED fixtures. This will be a cost saving for our church going into the future. Work will soon begin on the new HVAC system in the sanctuary permits have been applied for and the start of the project won t be far behind. The Parish Council has drafted a Policy Manual for the use of our new mini bus which will be required to be adhered to to ensure the safety and optimal benefit for our church community. We have raised over $25,000 for the Ground Zero Fundraiser and will continue to collect funds for this very worthy cause through the end of October. Thanks to a huge enrollment in our Greek School this year, we have decided to add an additional teacher. We welcome Spirithoula Ballas to our Greek School faculty! My dear friends and brothers and sisters in Christ, On behalf of our parish council, Fr. Demetri, Fr. Costa and myself I would like to extend to you a heartfelt thank you for your outpouring of support for the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at Ground Zero. Because of your generosity, we will be sending a check to the St. Nicholas Church for over $25,000. Much has been said about St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and the fact that it was the only place of worship to be destroyed by the 9/11 attacks. But our great God, in His infinite wisdom, has taken that which was intended to harm us and turned it into something that is beautiful and powerful. By His grace, we have had the opportunity to play a permanent role in the building and establishing of this mighty witness for Christ. From this time forward, we are telling all generations and all people, here is the resurrected Church which is set upon a hill, shining forth truth for all the world to see and at which to marvel. May God continue to bless us now and always, In His service, George Bambalis Parish Council President Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church

Should you have any questions about registration, please contact Helen Sialmas at 414-7212. ***FESTIVAL Dancers 6 th -12 th who are not involved in Competition will begin dance on March 7 th, 2017. *** REGISTRATION FOR ALL GROUPS It happens that in order to have a successful youth program we have to accommodate our youth and offer opportunities within our ministry for every child. We do this by allowing our program to be pliable and accessible for all our youth from Kindergarten to 12 th grade by providing various ways in which they can participate. All ages/ groups then can perform in at least one of the three culminating events: Hellenic Dance Festival, March 25 th, and Greek Festival. Because our program does not begin at the same time for everyone, there has been some confusion about registration. PLEASE REGISTER YOUR CHILD IN THE CATEGORY THAT THEY WANT TO PAR- TICPATE BY THE LATEST DECEMBER 1 st EVEN IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT START PRACTICE UNTIL MARCH. Competition dancers should already have registered if not do so immediately!! Please register your children for dance this year by going to the following link: http://www.wsgoc.org/youth-ministries/hellenic-dance-troupes/ Once your arrive to the webpage, please fill out the top information form and submit it. Once you press "submit", proceed to the "pay now" button on the page and select the registration you wish to purchase. **Unless both steps are done your registration isn't complete** Thank you board members, parents, and students for your continued dedication and support of our fantastic program. In Christ s Service, Lisa Siokis
