TAXIARCHAE/ARCHANGELS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH WATERTOWN, MA HYMNS OF THE DAY RESURRECTIONAL APOLYTIKION IN THE FIRST MODE Savior, Your tomb was sealed with a stone. Soldiers kept watch over Your sacred body. Yet, You rose on the third day giving life to the world. Wherefore the powers of heaven cried out, "O Giver of Life, glory to Your Resurrection O Christ; glory to Your Kingdom, glory to Your dispensation who alone are the Loving One." APOLYTIKION FOR PROPHET ELISSEUS IN THE FOURTH MODE The incarnate Angel, the Cornerstone of the Prophets, the second Forerunner of the Coming of Christ, the glorious Elias (Elijah), who from above, sent down to Elisha the grace to dispel sickness and cleanse lepers, abounds therefore in healing for those who honor him. SEASONAL KONTAKION IN THE SECOND MODE O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee. EPISTLE READING THE READING IS FROM ST. PAUL'S LETTER TO THE ROMANS 2:10-16 Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

GOSPEL READING 2ND SUNDAY OF MATTHEW THE READING IS FROM MATTHEW 4:18-23 At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. JUNE 14 THE HOLY PROPHET ELISSEUS (ELISHA) The Prophet Elisseus, the son of Saphat, was from the town of Abel-me-oul and had been a husbandman. In the year 908 B.C., at God's command, the Prophet Elias anointed him to be Prophet in his stead. This happened while Elisseus was plowing his land, having twelve oxen under yoke. Straightway, Elisseus slew the oxen and cooked them, using the wooden plough and the other instruments of husbandry as firewood; then he gave the oxen as food to the people. Bidding farewell to his parents, he followed Elias and served him until the latter was taken up as it were into Heaven (see July 20). When Elisseus received his teacher's mantle and the grace of his prophetic spirit twofold, he demonstrated whose disciple he was through the miracles he wrought and through all that is related of him in the Fourth Book of Kings. He departed full of days and was buried in Samaria, about the year 839 B.C. But even after his death God glorified him; for after the passage of a year, when some Israelites were carrying a dead man for burial and suddenly saw a band of Moabites, they cast the dead man on the grave of the Prophet. No sooner had the dead man touched the Prophet's bones, than he came to life and stood on his feet (IV Kings 13:20-21). Mentioning this, Jesus the Son of Sirach says, "He did wonders in his life, and at his death his works were marvelous" (Ecclus. 48:14). It is because of such marvels that the faithful have reverence for the relics of the Saints (see also Jan. 16). His name means "God is savior."

AHEPA News! Harris J. Booras Chapter #406 Congratulations to all Sunday School, Greek School, Public School and College students for successfully completing another year of their education this June. Special congratulations to our Taxiarchae Greek School graduates: Irene Kandilas, Yanna Karpouzis, Angelika Kartsagoulis, Alex Ketcios, George Lithotomos and Haralambos Sarris. Our Chapter will be making a small presentation to these graduates on Graduation Sunday June 7. We urge them to further pursue their Greek education in the future. Our Chapter #406 will have a meeting and Chapter Officer elections on Thursday, June 11, with Social Hour at 7 PM followed by the meeting at 7:30 PM. Elected officers will serve July 1 2015 to June 30, 2016. There will be reports on Chapter activities and plans for the future. There will be a report on the District 8 NE Regional Convention, which was held on May 30 in Newport, RI. Since there will be no regular meeting during the months of July and August, special events and activities will be discussed, i.e. continuation of tavli/backgammon games during the summer on Fridays from 10 AM to 1 PM. We welcome new brothers Apostolis Kolovos and Fr. Athanasios Nenes, who were initiated at our meeting on May 12. Anyone else interested in joining our AHEPA Chapter #406 should contact one of our officers or members. AHEPANS who are members of the Taxiarchae Church are urged to participate at the General Assembly after church services on June 14. We congratulate brother Matthew A. Panos of our AHEPA Chapter who was selected to be honored on June 14 by the Metropolis as Parishioner of the Year of the Taxiarchae Parish of Watertown. We urge all AHEPANS, their families and friends to support and help at the Taxiarchae Festival on June 26, 27 and 28. Our chapter is again prepared to sponsor another team of three High School students to compete in the Hellenic History tournament in November. The three students, from Grades 9-12, do not need to be members of the AHEPA family or of any church, or other association, nor do they need to be of Greek descent. They must register by the end of June. During the summer they would study Greek History from a Hellenic history book in English, which will be sent to them. They will then compete as a team in November in the Hellenic History tournament in Connecticut. The winning team would share a $3,000 prize. For further information, contact Athanasi Vulgaropulos or Constantine Lagos. The AHEPA Supreme Convention will be held on June 1-5 in San Francisco, CA. For information contact John Abate. Have a good summer!
