Organizational Setting The Subregional Office for Eastern Africa (SFE) is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing sub-regional food, agriculture and rural development priorities. It develops and maintains relations with sub-region-wide institutions including Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs). It assists the FAO Representations (FAORs) in the sub-region with addressing sub-regional food security, agriculture and rural development issues at country level. The Subregional Office is a subsidiary of FAO s Regional Office for Africa (RAF). The post is located in the Subregional Office for Eastern Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Reporting Lines The Junior Professional Officer (Fishery and Aquaculture) reports to the Fishery and Aquaculture Officer of the Subregional Office for Eastern Africa. Key Functions Analyzes relevant technical social, economic, environmental, and technology information, data and/or statistics for input in various documents; Maintains records and updates databases and web pages; Provides technical support to various projects; Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars, etc.; Participates in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners. Specific Functions Collect and analyse data on aquaculture development and management in the subregion Assist in the provision of project backstopping member countries Assist in the preparation of technical documents and provide inputs to member states on aquaculture development and management Support the regular exchange of information on aquaculture between the Subregional Offices, Regional Office and Headquarters Support the identification, formulation, implementation and monitoring of projects and programmes 1H05 CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Minimum Requirements Advanced university degree in aquaculture management and development, fisheries/aquaculture economics or other fields relevant to Aquaculture Development One year of relevant experience in aquaculture management and development or related field Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish Competencies Results Focus Teamwork Communication Building Effective Relationships
