The Easter baptismal procession is repeated daily. The royal gates of the sanctuary remain open. The joy of the Resurrection and the gift of the Kingdom of eternal life continue to abound. Then, at the end of the week, on Saturday evening, the second Sunday after Easter is celebrated in remembrance of the appearance of Christ to the Apostle Thomas after eight days (Jn 20:26).It is important to note that the number eight has symbolical significance in both Jewish and Christian spiritual tradition. It signifies more than completion and fullness; it signifies the Kingdom of God and the life of the world to come since seven is the number of earthly time. The sabbath, the seventh day, is the blessed day of rest in this world, the final day of the week. The first day of the week, the day after Sabbath ; stressed in all of the gospels as the day of Christ s Resurrection (Mk 16:1, Mt 28:1, Lk 24:1, Jn 20:1, 19), is therefore also the eighth day, the day beyond the confines of this world, the day which stands for the life of the world to come, the day of the eternal rest of the Kingdom of God (see Hebrews 4).The Sunday after Easter, called the Second Sunday, is thus the eighth day of the paschal celebration, the last day of Bright Week. It is therefore called the Antipascha, and it was only on this day in the early church that the newly-baptized Christians removed their robes and entered once again into the life of this world.in the Church services the stress is on the Apostle Thomas vision of Christ and the significance of the day comes to us in the words of the gospel:then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing. Thomas answered him, My Lord and my God! Jesus said to him, Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe (John 20:27-29).We have not seen Christ with our physical eyes nor touched his risen body with our physical hands, yet in the Holy Spirit we have seen and touched and tasted the Word of Life (1 Jn 1:1-4), and so we believe. At each of the daily services until Ascension Day we sing the Easter Troparion. At each of the Sunday services beginning with Antipascha, we sing the Easter canon and hymns, and repeat the celebration of the first day of the week on which Christ rose from the dead. At all of the liturgies the epistle readings are taken from the Book of Acts telling us of the first Christians who lived in communion with the Risen Lord. All of the gospel readings are taken from the Gospel of St John, considered by many to be a gospel written particularly for those who are newly-baptized into the new life of the Kingdom of God through death and new birth in Christ, in the name of the Holy Trinity. The reason for this opinion is that all of the signs as the miracles in St John s Gospel are called deal with sacramental themes involving water: wine and bread. Thus, each of the Sundays after Thomas Sunday with the exception of the third, is dedicated to the memory of one of these signs.

Note From Pascha until the Sunday of Pentecost, we do not kneel and we do not do prostrations. The Kneeling Vespers (Vespers of the Holy Spirit) on the day of Pentecost is the first time we kneel again.

Acts of the Apostles 5:12-20 IN THOSE DAYS, many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico. None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high honor. And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed. Η Κυριακή του Αντίπασχα Κύριο χαρακτηριστικό της εποχής μας είναι η απιστία. Η δυσκολία δηλ. να δεχθούμε ότι πάνω από εμάς βρίσκεται, όχι απλά μια ανώτερη δύναμη, αλλά ο Θεός ο οποίος μας βλέπει και ακολουθεί πατρικά κάθε μας βήμα. Η άρνηση της ύπαρξης του Θεού εντοπίζεται στο επιχείρημα ότι αφού δεν βλέπουμε τον Θεό, άρα δεν υπάρχει. Μόνο ότι βλέπουμε, ότι ψηλαφίζουμε, ότι πιάνουμε είναι πραγματικό ενώ από κει και πέρα όλες οι θεωρίες περί υπάρξεως Θεού ανήκουν στην σφαίρα της φαντασίας.θα μου επιτρέψετε να χρησιμοποιήσω ένα ανέκδοτο στο οποίο φαίνεται το παράλογο εκείνων που υποστηρίζουν ότι δεν υπάρχει Θεός : Ένας δάσκαλος λοιπόν κατά την ώρα της διδασκαλίας με βεβαιότητα υποστήριξε ότι δεν υπάρχει Θεός, αφού δεν τον βλέπουμε. Τότε ένας έξυπνος μαθητής παίρνει τον λόγο και του απαντά : Με αυτό το σκεπτικό κύριε και εσείς δεν έχετε μυαλό διότι δεν το βλέπουμε. Βλέπουμε εσάς, το κεφάλι σας αλλά εάν έχει μέσα μυαλό κ εάν είναι άμυαλο δεν το βλέπουμε. Τότε όλοι οι μαθητές ξέσπασαν σε χειροκροτήματα ενώ ο Δάσκαλος έσκυψε ντροπιασμένος κάτω το κεφάλι. Η τάση του να μην πιστεύει κανείς δεν είναι κάτι το καινούργιο. Δεν είναι δηλαδή χαρακτηριστικό μόνο της σημερινής εποχής. Ανέκαθεν υπήρξαν άνθρωποι οι οποίοι και αν ακόμα είχαν μπροστά τους χειροπιαστές αποδείξεις ότι υπάρχει Θεός εκείνοι τον αρνήθηκαν και τον πολέμησαν. Από την άλλη υπήρξαν και υπάρχουν άνθρωποι οι οποίοι αναζητούν αποδείξεις για να πιστέψουν όπως ακριβώς έκανε ο άπιστος στην αρχή και κατόπιν πιστός μαθητής του Χριστού ο Θωμάς.Φοβισμένοι λοιπόν οι μαθητές του Χριστού μας μετά την Ανάσταση είχαν κλεισθεί σ ένα σπίτι συζητώντας τα καταπληκτικά γεγονότα των ημερών. Και περίμεναν. Περίμεναν να εκπληρωθούν όλες οι υποσχέσεις του Διδασκάλου, αφού εκπληρώθηκε αυτή η απίστευτη πρόβλεψη η εκ Νεκρών Ανάστασή Του. Βέβαια σύννεφα αμφιβολίας και απιστίας είχαν εμφανισθεί αλλά την κατάλληλη ώρα παρουσιάζεται ανάμεσα τους ο Θεάνθρωπος, ο νεκραναστημένος Χριστός διαλύοντας την ομίχλη των δισταγμών, σκορπίζοντας τις αμφιβολίες με τον Αναστάσιμο χαιρετισμό «Ειρήνη υμίν»! Ναι! Μπροστά τους έχουν τον Διδάσκαλο με τα τρυπημένα χέρια από τα καρφιά, και την ματωμένη πληγή από την λόγχη ο ίδιος ο Κύριος με σώμα άφθαρτο, αναστημένο.η χαρά των μαθητών είναι απερίγραπτη «Έωρακαμεν τον Κύριον»! Είδαμε τον Κύριο φώναζαν. Δεν δοκίμασαν όμως όλοι αυτήν την υπερκόσμια χαρά της αναστάσιμης Παρουσίας του Χριστού. Ο Θωμάς έλειπε από την συντροφιά των μαθητών, και όταν συναντήθηκε μαζί τους και άκουσε για την εμφάνιση του νεκραναστημένου δεν έδειξε τον ίδιο ενθουσιασμό δεν ένιωσε την ίδια χαρά. Ο Απόστολος Θωμάς ήταν δύσπιστος χαρακτήρας, ήταν θετικός τύπος, ζητούσε αποδείξεις. Δεν ήταν από εκείνους τους σημερινούς χριστιανούς που λένε : «Πίστευε και μην ερεύνα» αλλά εκπροσωπούσε τους ερευνητές και αναζητητές της αλήθειας. Ήθελε μία προσωπική εμπειρία. Δεν αρκέσθηκε στα όσα του είπαν οι υπόλοιποι μαθητές Τον είδε μαζί με τους άλλους να δαμάζει τα στοιχεία της φύσεως, να διατάζει τα κύματα και εκείνα να γαληνεύουν, τον είδε να ανασταίνει νεκρούς, τον είδε να σηκώνει παράλυτους, τον είδε να συγχωρεί τους εχθρούς του επάνω στον Σταυρό, είδε την γη να τρέμει κάτω από τα πόδια του όταν ο Εσταυρωμένος είπε το «Τετέλεσται», άκουσε ότι το Σώμα του δεν βρέθηκε στον Τάφο μετά τρεις ημέρες, όμως παρά ταύτα δεν πίστεψε. Γιατί ; Γιατί η απιστία είναι ζυμωμένη με την ανθρώπινη φύση. Όλοι μας πιστεύουμε, αλλά σε καιρό πειρασμού, η πίστη μας χαλαρώνει, ζητούμε από τον Θεό να κάνει έντονη την παρουσία του και έτσι γίνεται μόνο που ο Θεός εμφανίζεται μπροστά μας όπως θέλει εκείνος όχι όπως θέλουμε εμείς.μετά από οκτώ ημέρες ο Αναστημένος Σωτήρας εμφανίζεται και πάλι. Παρόντες είναι όλοι οι μαθηταί και ο Θωμάς. «Έλα Θωμά. Φέρε τον δακτυλόν Σου εδώ. Και κοίταξε τα χέρια μου και φέρε το χέρι Σου και βάλε στην πλευρά μου και μην γίνεσαι άπιστος αλλά πιστός»! Να η ώρα της σωτηρίας,της ομολογίας. Ο μαθητής συντετριμμένος, ταπεινωμένος μετά την έρευνα, σωριάστηκε μπροστά στα πόδια του Διδασκάλου και άφησε να βγουν από τα ευτυχισμένα στήθη του τούτα τα λόγια :«Ο Κύριος μου και ο Θεός μου».αγαπητοί μου αδελφοί! Ας γίνουμε και εμείς ομολογητές της πίστεως μας, ας απομακρύνουμε τα σύννεφα της απιστίας και της αμφιβολίας που σκεπάζουν τον ουρανό της πίστης μας και ας αφήσουμε το γεγονός της Αναστάσεως του Χριστού να διαποτίσει όλη την ζωή μας έτσι ώστε όλη η εβδομάδα μας να φωτίζεται από το Πανάγιο φως της Αναστάσεως, αφού η Κυριακή είναι η καρδιά της εβδομάδας, η ημέρα εκείνη που γιορτάζουμε το μέγιστο θαύμα της εκ νεκρών Αναστάσεως. Γι αυτό είναι απαραίτητο όλη η ζωή μας να κινείται γύρω από την Αναστάσιμη Θ. Λειτουργία της Κυριακής που είναι το κέντρο της πίστεως μας και της Σωτηρίας μας. Ο π. Ιουστίνος Πόποβιτς γράφει ότι ολόκληρο το Ευαγγέλιο των Ορθόδοξων κλείνεται μέσα σε τέσσερις λέξεις: ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ ΑΝΕΣΤΗ ΑΛΗΘΩΣ ΑΝΕΣΤΗ!Η άνοιξη που ήδη ξεκίνησε ας δώσει την θέση της στην πνευματική άνοιξη της ζωής μας η οποία θα απομακρύνει τον πνευματικό χειμώνα της αμαρτίας κάτω από το φως της Αναστάσεως. Αμήν.
