A t t e n t i o n : P a r e n t s, G r a n d p a r e n t s, & G o d p a r e n t s You are encouraged to pick up a CHURCH QUIET BAG, available in the small room on the right side of the Narthex, for your youngest Holy Trinity parishioners. The bags include religious books and quiet activities that can help your children learn about the Orthodox faith, with your guidance, during Divine Liturgy. You are also encouraged to work with the young ones during the Liturgy by having them stand up for the processions, Epistle and Gospel readings, the Nicene Creed, and the Lord's Prayer, as well as kneel at the appropriate time. Engage them in looking at the icons and quietly remind them of what they see in Church. Please RETURN THE BAGS in their original condition to the room in the Narthex prior to Sunday Church School so others can enjoy them the following Sunday. The CHURCH QUIET BAGS were lovingly donated by the Moustoukas and Peterson families and sponsored by the ECYM Committee. YOUTH HYMNOLOGY PROGRAM Parents, please bring your Youth Hymnology participants to church services this Saturday morning, April 30, at 9:00 am SHARP to sing the Hymn of the Three Youths. Teens will offer Bible reading at this service. Students in 4th Grade and older are invited to sing with the adult choir on Sundays and Friday evenings, when mentors will assist them. They must arrive by 10:00 am on Sundays and by 7:00 pm on Fridays. There has been a positive response to this initiative. ALL CHILDREN OF THE COMMUNITY ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE in any Sunday Church School and Hymnology activities. For more information, please contact Viki Moustoukas, vmoustouka@aol.com. Thanks to everyone for the tremendous support of this youth ministry. SUNDAY, APRIL 17 ATTENDANCE 160 ~ CANDLE AND TRAY COLLECTIONS $634 Message from Father George WE ARE GOING UP TO JERUSALEM Going up to Jerusalem Jesus took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And, the third day He will rise again. Matthew 20:17-19 Today in the Church, we commemorate that last time when our Lord Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem. He knew what awaited Him, yet to be true to the Will of God he endured all that was to come. Officially, Great Lent ended two days ago with the beginning of vespers at sundown on Friday. But, the mind-set of the Church during these two days is slightly different as we focus on the Resurrection of Lazarus and how in just a few days the Resurrection of our Lord would provide for all, who believe in Him, a similar sentence of Salvation. For the believers, we are all going up to Jerusalem with our Lord as we re-live these Spiritually moving days with Him. The services of the Church during Holy Week allow us to follow along with Him and His disciples through the pain, the passion, and the promises. He had to endure betrayal, arrest, humiliation, scourging, ridicule, and personal attacks from the Jewish leaders. He suffered the degradation of carrying a wooden cross on His back up to His execution. He endured hours on the Cross and the agonizing death in the flesh. Jesus Christ knew that this was all waiting for Him so that He Himself would confront death face to face, endure and experience it. He had to endure the Passion so that Scripture would be fulfilled and that He would live out the will of God the Father to provide Salvation for you and me. So, as we come to the inspiring services of Holy Week, we are all going up to Jerusalem. It is an opportunity to pray and meditate on the life and ministry of our Lord, but it is also an opportunity to grow closer to Him and come to a deeper understanding of just what He has done for us. I pray that this is a soul-stirring experience for you as we come together as the family of Holy Trinity Cathedral, standing in prayer with our brothers and sisters in the New Jerusalem: Christ s Holy Church.

However, recent inclement weather forced them to delay their plans and postpone the work until the week of May 2. At that time, please be aware that there will be no access to the Cathedral ground via St. Bernard Avenue. Instead, parishioners will be advised to enter the property from Robert E. Lee Boulevard. A gate will be opened, and the road crew will prepare the curb for convenient access onto the grounds. More details will be posted when the time arises. THE EPISTLE Philippians 4:4-9 BRETHREN, rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you. THE GOSPEL John 12:1-18 Six days before Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazaros was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. There they made him a supper; Martha served, and Lazaros was one of those at table with him. Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him), said "Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" This he said, not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box he used to take what was put into it. Jesus said, "Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of my burial. The poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me." When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, they came, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus also to death, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus. The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!" And Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it; as it is written, "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!" His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, and then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.
