Dear Members, It is with great delight that I address you on this special occasion. I am pleased to announce that we have a new and vibrant Committee that will continue with the dream and aspirations of Chris Paikopoulos and the previous Committee. We as a Committee will endeavour to meet with and raise the benchmarks left as a legacy. We are brimming with excitement, full of creative and innovative ideas that we hope you the members will approve of when the projects materialise and come to fruition over the next two years. In addition to our current responsibilities and status quo, we will endeavour to implement projects such as: enhancing the Cultural Centre under the leadership of Chris Paikopoulos; the emergence of a Youth Group under the guidance of John Karavitis; and the colourful costumed Youth Dance Group splendored in their new outfits. Other projects such as the Women's Auxiliary are being formed under the guidance of Mary Tsaganas; new Services for the Elderly Citizens under the leadership of Petros Gouvousis and his Committee; and Oral Histories of every Lakonian family of the Pallaconian Brotherhood 'Leonidas' will be included. The presentation of guest speakers on subjects of interest and an Information Technology and Training Hub to cater for members will add to the wealth of projects introduced. Further to the above we will also include the recognition of the Sparta Place and the Leonidas statue as a Memorial, promote Leadership programmes, organise Rembettika evenings, Lectures, Cocktail parties, and present Awards and Acknowledgements to long serving members. Workshops, Creation of a Master Plan for the future of the Pallaconian Brotherhood 'Leonidas', Fund raising, closer ties with Lakonia Greece, Communication via online technologies such as Skype, the maximum use of Social Media, and a Recruiting drive to increase the membership are all projects intended to benefit all. The aim of the numerous projects, as outlined above, is to create an environment where the youth will be attracted to the Pallaconian Brotherhood 'Leonidas' for the services it provides and a place where they too can "hang out" on days that do not conflict with the current status quo. If we are to survive, we must recognise that time is not on our side and that action on our part will be needed to build upon the foundations of the many that came before us. Therefore we as a Committee look forward with much confidence and enthusiasm to a successful and creative two years. On behalf of the Committee I thank you. Peter Adamis - President Αγαπητά μέλη, Είναι με μεγάλη χαρά ότι απευθύνομαι σε εσάς σε αυτή την ειδική περίσταση. Είμαι στην ευχάριστη θέση να ανακοινώσω ότι έχουμε μια νέα και ζωντανή Επιτροπή, η οποία θα συνεχίσει με το όνειρο και τις προσδοκίες του Χριστου Παικοπουλου και της προηγούμενης Επιτροπής. Ως Επιτροπή θα προσπαθήσουμε να ανταποκρίθουμε και να σηκώσουμε το λάβαρο στα σημεία αναφοράς που εχουν αφησει ως κληρονομιά. Γεμάτοι ενθουσιασμό, γεμάτοι δημιουργικές και καινοτόμες ιδέες που ελπίζουμε ότι σαν μελη θα εγκρίνετε τα έργα που θα υλοποιηθούν και θα αποδώσουν καρπούς τα επόμενα δύο χρόνια. Εκτός από τις τρέχουσες αρμοδιότητες και το κατεστημενο, θα προσπαθήσουμε να εφαρμόσουν σχέδια για την υλοποιηση εργων όπως: ενισχύοντας το πολιτιστικό κέντρο υπό την ηγεσία του Χριστου Παικοπουλου; την εμφάνιση μιας ομάδας νέων υπό την καθοδήγηση του Γιαννη Καραβιτη; και το χορευτικό συγκρότημα της νεολαίας με τις νεες, πολύχρωμες ενδυμασιες τους. Άλλα έργα όπως η γυναικεία βοηθητική διαμορφώνεται κάτω από την καθοδήγηση της Μαιρης Τσαγκανας; καινουργιες υπηρεσίες για τους ηλικιωμένους υπό την ηγεσία του Πέτρου Γουβουση και η Επιτροπή του; Κια προφορικές ιστορίες της κάθε Λακωνικης οικογένειας της Pallaconian Αδελφότητας «Ο Λεωνίδας» θα πρέπει να περιλαμβάνονται. Η παρουσίαση των προσκεκλημένων ομιλητών σε θέματα ενδιαφέροντος, και ενα Kεντρο Τεχνολογίας, Πληροφορίας και Εκπαίδευσης για τα μέλη θα εμπλουτισει την πλεθωρα των εργων που εχουν εισήχθη. Επιπλεον από τα παραπάνω θα περιλαμβανουμε επίσης την αναγνώριση της "Sparta Place' και το άγαλμα του Λεωνίδα ως μνημείο, προώθηση προγραμμάτων ηγεσίας, οργανωση Ρεμπετικης Βράδιας, διαλέξεις, κοκτέιλ παρτυ, και παρουσιασεις βραβείων και ευχαριστίες για τα μακροχρονια μελη. Εργαστήρια, δημιουργία ενός μεγαλόπνοου σχεδίου για το μέλλον της Παλλακωνικης Αδελφότητας "Λεωνίδας", εράνους, στενότερους δεσμούς με την Λακωνία Ελλαδας, επικοινωνία μέσω επιγραμμικών τεχνολογιών όπως το Skype, μέγιστη χρήση των κοινωνικών μέσων μαζικής ενημέρωσης, και μια καμπανια πρόσληψης για την αύξηση των μελών, όλα αυτα είναι έργα που προορίζονται να επωφελήσουν όλους. Στόχος των πολυάριθμων έργων, όπως αναφέρεται ανωτέρω, είναι να δημιουργιθει ενα περιβάλλον όπου η νεολαία θα προσελκυθει στην Παλλακωνικη Αδελφότητα «Λεωνίδας» τοσο για τις υπηρεσίες που παρέχει οσο και για τον χωρο όπου μπωρουν να συναναστρεφονται τις ημέρες που δεν έρχονται σε σύγκρουση με το τρεχων κατεστημενο. Εάν πρόκειται να επιβιώσουμε, πρέπει να αναγνωρίσουμε ότι ο χρόνος δεν είναι στην πλευρά μας, και ότι θα απαιτηθεί δράση εαν ειναι να χτησουμε πανω απο τα θεμέλια από αυτους που ηρθαν πριν απο εμας. ODE TO AUSTRALIAN HELLENES "O stranger to this land of ours we call home, Australia. Remember that we too are Australians. We who are of Hellenic origins, and made Australia home were and are always obedient to its laws. We who reside under the great Southern Cross once crossed this great land and have memories of old. May those who doubted our loyalty, remember that we too shared the burdens of Australia and willingly took on the aggressor to retain the freedoms we take for granted this day. For those of us who are buried in this land we call Australia we salute those who now carry the torch we once carried with pride. To live in a land free from oppression, hunger and disease. To raise our families and educate our children in the manner of the land we now live in. We ask now of the new generation that when the time comes, that they too remember that our lives were not in vain. Consider therefore, carefully before you criticize, that we who lie beneath this Australian soil, that we once lived amongst you in the flesh and felt the cool breeze against our cheeks and the heat of the sun during the day. We too had visions, dreams, and objectives that were not always fulfilled, but that somehow we managed to find our way through life. We kept true to the laws of the land, worked hard to sustain our selves and that of our brethren. Laughed, cried, howled and jumped with joy when good news or calamities came our way. We took on the good the bad and even the nightmares of others in good stead, without wavering from what lay ahead. In all matters great and small, we Australians of Hellenic origins never forgot our heritage, culture and our sense of identity during our journey throughout this land we call home Australia. We ask not much for the next generation other than to remember that we never forgot that we came from a race called the Hellenes. Therefore on the last day of the year, spare that one precious moment to reflect on those who went before you and that of the past and when that moment has passed, look forward to a year with the same confidence and courage of a race called the Hellenes. Stand tall and be proud of our origins and let us not deny our heritage, for it is who we are, Australians of the Hellenic race". Peter Adamis ΩΔΉ ΣΤΟΥΣ ΈΛΛΗΝΕΣ ΑΥΣΤΡΑΛΊΑΣ. "O ξένε σ'αυτην την χωρα που αποκαλούμε πατριδα, Αυστραλία. Θυμηθείτε ότι κ'εμεις είμαστε Αυστραλοι. Εμεις που ειμαστε απο ελληνική προέλευση, και καναμε την Αυστραλία πατριδα ήμασταν και είμαστε πάντα υπάκουοι στους νόμους της. Εμεις που κατοικούμε κάτω από τον τρανο Σταυρο το Νοτου κάποτε διέσχισαμε αυτή τη μεγάλη χωρα και έχουμε μνήμες των παλαιών. Σ' αυτους που αμφέβαλλαν την πίστη μας, θυμηθητε ότι κ'εμεις μοιρστικαμε τα βάρη της Αυστραλίας και πρόθυμα ανελαβαμε τον επιτιθέμενο να διατηρήσει τις ελευθερίες που παίρνουμε για δεδομένο αυτήν την ημέρα. Για όσους από εμάς που είναι θαμμένοι σ'αυτην την χωρα που ονομάζουμε Αυστραλία χαιρετουμε όσους τώρα μεταφέρουν τη δάδα οπως κάποτε μεταφέραμε κ'εμεις με υπερηφάνεια. Να ζουμε σε μια χώρα που είναι απαλλαγμένη από την καταπίεση, πείνα και αρρώστα. Να αναθρέψουν τις οικογένειές μας και να εκπαιδεύσουμε τα παιδιά μας με τον τρόπο της χωρας όπου ζούμε σήμερα. Ζητάμε τώρα απο την νέα γενιά ότι όταν έρθει η ώρα, να θημουντε ότι η ζωή μας δεν ήταν μάταια. Εξεταξε ως εκ τούτου, προσεκτικά προτού επικρίνεις, ότι εμείς που βρίσκομαστε κάτω από αυτό το Αυστραλιανό έδαφος, ότι κάποτε ζούσαμε ανάμεσα σας στη σάρκα και αισθάνθηκαμε το δροσερό αεράκι εναντίον τα μάγουλα μας και τη θερμότητα του ήλιου κατά τη διάρκεια της ημέρας. Είχαμε και εμεις οράματα, όνειρα και στόχους που δεν ήταν πάντα πληρούνται, αλλά ότι με κάποιο τρόπο, καταφέραμε να βρούμε το δρόμο μας μέσα στη ζωή. Επιτηρησαμε τους νόμους της χωρας, εργάστηκαμε σκληρά για να διατηρήσουμε τον εαυτό μας και τους αδελφούς μας. Γέλασαμε, φώναξαμε, ουρλιαξαμε, και πήδηξαμε με χαρά όταν λαβαμε καλές ειδήσεις ή καταστροφές. Πήραμε το καλό και το κακό και ακόμη τον όλεθρο των άλλων με καλή θέση, χωρίς αμφιταλαντεύσεις από τι μας προσμενει. Σε όλα τα θέματα μεγάλα και μικρα, εμεις οι Αυστραλοί απο ελληνική προέλευση δεν ξεχάσαμε ποτέ την κληρονομιά μας, τον πολιτισμό μας και το αίσθημα της ταυτότητας μας κατά τη διάρκεια του ταξίδιου μας σ'αυτήν τη χωρα, που ονομάζουμε χωρα Αυστραλία. Δεν ζητουμε πολλά για την επόμενη γενιά, εκτός από το να θυμουντε ότι ποτέ δεν ξεχάσαμε ότι ήρθαμε από μια φυλή που ονομάζεται Ελλήνες. Ως εκ τούτου, την τελευταία ημέρα της τρέχουσας χρωνιας, χαρισε μία πολύτιμη στιγμή να προβληματιστούν αυτούς που περασαν πριν απο εμας και απ'το παρελθόω, και όταν εκείνη η στιγμή έχει περάσει, προσβλέπε σε ένα χρόνο με την ίδια εμπιστοσύνη και το θάρρος μιας φυλής που ονομάζεται Ελλήνες. OPEN OF MEETING. The meeting was opened by Chris Paikopoulos (Outgoing President) at 7.15 pm on Wednesday 9th October 2014 at the Pallaconian Brotherhood, Leonidas Club facilities. Mr. Paikopoulos thanked members and paid tribute members of the outgoing Committee for their achievements and welcomed the members of the new Committee. Mr. Paikopoulos then called for nominations for the role of President. Paikopoulos, ευχαρίστησε τα μέλη της Αδελφοτητας και ιδιαιτερα τα μέλη του απερχόμενου ιοικητικου Συµβουλιου για τα επιτεύγματά του και καλωσορισε τα μέλη του νεου ιοικητικου Συµβουλιου. As there were no other nominations or objections Mr. Peter Adamis was unanimously declared the President of the Pallaconian Brotherhood of Melbourne and Victoria Leonidas Inc. The President, Peter Adamis thanked the outgoing President Chris Paikopoulos for the outstanding role as President and reinforced his comments by thank ing the previous Committee's achievements under the leadership of Chris Paikopoulos. The President Peter Adamis assured Chris Paikopoulos that his good work and that of his Committee would be carried on. The outgoing President, Chris Paikopoulos then departed. Ο Πρόεδρος Peter Αδάμης διαβεβαίωσε τον Chris Paikopoulos ότι το καλό του έργο και αυτο του ιοικητικου Συµβουλιου του θα συνεχιστει. Στη συνέχεια ο απερχόμενος Πρόεδρος, Chris Paikopoulos αναχώρησε.

The President Peter Adamis addressed the new Committee and stated that he would break with tradition and select his own officer bearers as well as allocating additional responsibilities. The President said that it was important that the constitution be followed and that outdated and innocuous paradigms of the past should not be an impediment or stand in the way of innovative ideas and concepts. He felt that all future Presidents should have the right to select their team of office bearers, providing Committee members agree. The following is the result the election of Office Bearers: Ο Πρόεδρος Παναγιοτισ Αδάμης απευθύνθηκε στο νεο ιοικητικο Συµβουλιο και δήλωσε ότι θα πραξει διαφορετικα απο την παράδοση και θα επιλέξει ο ιδιος τα αξιωµατικα στελεχη του ιοικητικου Συµβουλιου και θα καταχωρησει τις ευθύνες του καθενος. Ο Πρόεδρος είπε ότι ειναι σημαντικό οπως ακολουθηθει το Καταστατικο αλλα συναµα ξεπερασµενοι τροποι εργασιας και πρακτικες που ανηκουν στο παρελθόν δεν πρέπει να παρεμποδίζουν καινουργιες ιδεες και καινοτοµιες. Αναφερε, οτι ολοι/ολες οι μελλοντικοί/ες πρόεδροι, θα πρέπει να έχουν το δικαίωμα να επιλέγουν τα αξιωµατικα στελεχη της οµαδας τους, µε την προυποθεση οτι ολα τα µελη του ιοικητικου Συµβουλιου συµϕωνουν. Further to the above, the President Peter Adamis indicated that each Committee member will be allocated roles and responsibilities. He advised that these additional responsibilities were designed to provide Committee members with the authority and status to carry out their roles, thus enhancing current services being provided to club members. Each member present was provided with a personal kit folio with a copy of the constitution, roles and responsibilities enclosed. The President advised that these were a guide only and subject to change based on personal discussions with the President. Additional roles and responsibilities are as shown below: Σε συνέχεια ο Πρόεδρος Παναγιοτισ Αδάμης αναϕερε ότι θα καταχωρηθουν ευθυνες και αρµοδιοτητες σε κάθε μέλος του ιοικητικου Συµβουλιου. Αναφερε, ότι αυτές οι επιπρόσθετες ευθύνες εχουν σκοπο να δωσουν στα µελη του ιοικητικου Συµβουλιου υπευθυνοτητα και κυρος ωστε να µπορουν να ανταποκρινονται συµϕωνα µε τις αρµοδιοτητες στις αναγκες της Αδελφοτητας και να ενισχύουν έτσι και την προσφορα υπηρεσιων ως προς τα µελη της Αδελφοτητας. Το καθε μέλος του.σ. παραβρισκοµενο/η στην συνεδριαση ελαβε απο ενα χαρτοϕυλακιο που περιειχε το αντίγραφο του Καταστατικου της Αδελϕοτητας καθως επισης και αντιγραφο των ρόλων και ευθυνων του καθενος. Ο Πρόεδρος ενημέρωσε, ότι επρόκειτο για έναν οδηγό μόνο και οτι αλλαγες µπορει να γινουν κατοπιν συνενοησης με τον Πρόεδρο. Επιπρόσθετοι ρόλοι και ευθύνες καταχωρηθηκαν συµϕωνα µε τον παρακάτω πινακα:

The President Peter Adamis congratulated the new Committee and said that he looked forward to an exciting and innovative two years where the clubs projects, paradigms and members expectations will be met and carried forward. He added that full support will be provided to the Elderly Citizens, (under the leadership of Petros Gouvousis), The Youth Dance Group, (under the leadership of Steve Tsaganas), Cultural Centre (under the leadership of Chris Paikopoulos), and the newly announced Youth Group. Furthermore the President added that he was seeking to create a women's auxiliary to the club as additional pillars of support. Ο Παναγιοτισ Αδάμης, Πρόεδρος, συνεχάρη το νεο ιοικητικο Συµβουλιο και δηλωσε ότι προσδοκει τα δυο εποµενα χρονια να ειναι γεµατα ενθουσιασµο και καινοτοµιες, οπου τα εργα και οι προσδοκιες των µελων της Αδελφοτητας θα βρισκουν ανταποκριση και θα εκπληρουνται. Πρόσθεσε ότι θα υπαρξει πληρη υποστηριξη των µελων του Τµηµατος των Ηλικιωµενων, (υπό την ηγεσία του Πέτρου Γκουβουση), του Χορευτικoυ Συγκροτηµατος της Νεολαίας, (υπό την ηγεσία του Steve Τσαγανα), του Πολιτιστικου Κέντρου (υπό την ηγεσία του Xρηστου Παικοπουλου), και της πρόσφατης αναγγελθείσας Oμάδας Nέων. Επιπλέον, ο Πρόεδρος πρόσθεσε ότι επιδιωκει να δημιουργήσει ενα Γυναικείo Tµηµα ως επιπροσθετη πυλώνa της Αδελφοτητας. He paid tribute to past members now gone and to those of the elderly citizens and life members who made the Pallaconian Brotherhood what it is today. Peter Adamis then pointed out community members who contributed to the well being and longevity of the brotherhood such as Sam Mihelakos, Chris Paikopoulos, Jim Bakis, Peter Roumbos, Jim Kannelakos, Eugenia Gramatikaki, Kon Glekas and Jim Batsakis as prime examples of Committee members who have continuously supported the club over the years. Special mention was made of John Panagiotakokos, Argyroula Stamogiannou, Steve Tsaganas and George Karkanis for their continual support towards the betterment of all members. Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά έκανε στους Γιαννη Παναγιωτακακο, Αργυρουλα Σταµογιαννου, Steve Τσαγανα και Γεώργιο Καρκάνη για την συνεχή υποστήριξή τους για το καλο όλων των μελών, The President, Peter Adamis paid a special tribute to Kon Karavitis whose knowledge, experience and mentoring will be sadly missed. Kon Karavitis set the example to others with his flamboyant style and will always be remembered for his robust discussions and his loyalty to the Pallaconian Brotherhood 'Leonidas'. Ο Καραβιτης Κωστας ηταν παραδειγµα προς µιµηση με το ύφος και ιδιαιτερο του στυλ και θα τον θυμόμαστε παντα για τις ζωντανες του συζητήσεις καθως επισης και για την ισχυρη του πίστη στην Παλλακωνικη Αδελφοτητα «Λεωνίδας». The President welcomed the new Committee members present and absent and said that each and everyone had numerous skills, knowledge and life experiences that would assist in creating a new body of knowledge that would be the envy of all other communities and clubs. He said that he would consult widely and listen to all points of view as long as they were in the interests of the Pallaconian Brotherhood, Leonidas. Είπε ότι θα διαβουλεύεται εκτεταµενα µε ολους και ολες και θα ακουει όλες τις απόψεις, εφοσον ειναι προς το συμφέρον της Παλλακωνικης Αδελφότητας, ο Λεωνίδας. ADMINISTRATION AND LOGISTICS. The President said all Committee meetings will be conducted in accordance with the constitution. That all minutes will be in English, thus keeping abreast and in line with the Constitution and the Incorporation Act. He spoke briefly about members conduct, expectations, speakers, briefs, presentations, respect for all and that all meetings will be closed. He expected all meeting to be brief and to the point, followed by a general discussion after the meeting has closed. The President felt that it was in the best interests of the Committee that the executive Committee be enlarged and that selected members will be advised accordingly. All office bearers will be expected to provide a brief report, however in the event there are no outstanding matters, office bearers may be exempt from reporting. Ο Πρόεδρος έκρινε ότι ήταν προς το συμφέρον του ιοικητικου Συµβουλιου οπως η Eκτελεστική Επιτροπή διευρυνθει και τα μέλη που θα επιλεχθουν θα ενηµερωθουν αναλόγως. Θα ειναι υποχρεωτικο ολα τα µελη της Εκτελεστικης Επιτροπης να υποβαλλουν μια σύντομη αναφορα. Σε περιπτωση οµως που δεν υπαρχει καµµια εκκρεμότητα, τα µελη της Εκτελεστικης Επιτροπης θα απαλλάσσονται από την υποβολή αναφορας. Financial statements and correspondence will be kept to a minimum, with each officer providing a report on each. Financial transactions and correspondence will be given precedence according to their priority. Financial handover/takeover The President requested that a handover/takeover take place between Jim Batsakis and John Panagiotakokos. Mr. Batsakis handed the books of the Pallaconian Brotherhood Leonidas, to the Treasurer, stating that the Pallaconian Brotherhood Leonidas had a total of $76,221.71 in the bank and $91.00 in petty cash. Mr. Batsakis handed over $100.00 in petty cash to the incoming Treasurer John Panagiotakokos. It was wonderful to see that Australian Hellenes being awarded and acknowledged for their contributions to this country we call home - Australia." Matthew Guy the Minister for Planning Multicultural affairs and Citizenship was the main guest and also met with John Pandazopoulos and Jenny Mikakos On the other side of town past President of the Laconians, Chris Paikopoulos attended the prestigious Arcadian Dinner and as such the Pallaconian Brotherhood Leonidas was well represented. Australian Laconians are well known for their demeanour and cooperative nature, the evening was no exception, demonstrating once again a case of mutual cooperation on behalf of Australian Laconian community. It is of interest to note that the Australian Laconian community within Australia has long been the backbone of migration to this country and quietly work behind the scenes within the Australian Hellenic community. Like their Australian Hellenic brethren, the Cypriots, Messenians, Cretans, Macedonians and other sections of the Australian Hellenic Diaspora, the Aussie Laconians have contributed much to strengthening the fabric of our Australian society. Today you will find Australians whose origins are from Laconia Greece in almost all threads of Australian society. PRESENTATION PLAQUES TO SPARTA LAKONIA ON BEHALF OF THE PALLACONIAN BROTHERHOOD LEONIDAS The above plaque is to be presented to a number of major towns in Lakonia Greece over next few weeks. It is with great hope and good fortune that additional plaques are placed within each town of Lakonia, Greece in commemoration of those who migrated to Australia and throughout the world. Over time it is hoped to present every Laconian town and village with a similar plaque.

TRIBUTE TO CON KARAVITIS On the 13 October 2013 the bells tolled in the town of Peristeri Laconias, Greece. They tolled for one of their sons who had suddenly passed away. It was time honoured tradition amongst Laconian towns and villages that the church bells toll for the sudden death of any of its members, no mattered where they were residing and/or made their home in the world. Con had passed away whilst attending the Annual General Meeting of his most beloved Hellenic Club, the Pallaconian Brotherhood, a club that he had much to do with its regeneration. In fact one could rightly call him one of its post modern fathers and patron. Much has been spoken about Con and his personal achievements in the Australian Hellenic Community and yet few know of his outstanding work amongst new migrants and those within the wider community who would seek his help when in need. Some could accuse him of spending far too much time supporting others to the detriment to himself and others could argue that his love of his Laconian roots spurred him even further to do what he could to alleviate the burdens of others. I first met Con in 1992 at the Pallaconian Brotherhood Leonidas when it was being reformed and again after an absence of some twenty years. Con and I were on the Committee of management and we would often have our coffee and cakes together discussing the strengths and weakness of the Pallaconian Brotherhood Club and how we could ensure its longevity for future generations. On reflection, I guess that is what I liked and admired about Con, his tenacity and commitment for the truth, to do the right thing at all costs, not be afraid to speak when he saw an injustice being done, help others and to be able to put the needs of the club above that of his own. Suffice to say after much discussion and behind the scenes action by Con the club was to bring about a successful outcome. A man who spoke warmly about his family, how proud he was of them which is something not often said these days. Many who knew of his outspoken manner will always remember him as a God fearing man who loved his family, a humble and good man who wanted the best for others. Today as we stroll about the great Lakonian hall, we miss the flamboyant and robust discussions of Con, but his presence can be felt around the table during the Committee meetings ensuring that the meeting is being conducted in accordance with the constitution. However his son, John Karavitis has enlisted to become a member of the Committee and we welcome his valued contributions and dedication to expand on his father's highly valued work. A BRIEF HISTORY PALLACONIAN BROTHERHOOD 'LEONIDAS' The Pallaconian Brotherhood was established in 1961 in an effort to bring together Laconian Greek migrants from across Victoria. During this period of intense post war migration, many Laconian Greeks found in the Pallaconian Brotherhood a forum for coming together, sharing experiences and helping each other with the challenges of learning to live in their adopted home. Many Laconians chose to settle in Brunswick and the surrounding areas of Moreland. When the time came for the club to find permanent residence the purchase of a building situated at 258 Albert Street, Brunswick, became the natural choice. It was renamed Laconian House and continues to serve as the club rooms to the present day. For over half a century our organisation has been instrumental in maintaining Laconian cultural heritage in Victoria. It continues to pass this cultural legacy to second and third generation Greek Australians. Throughout the year the Pallaconian Brotherhood organises functions and activities aimed at celebrating Laconian culture, including exhibitions of traditional Greek dancing, theatre, cultural seminars and festivals. It takes great pride in being able to contribute to the multicultural aspect of Melbourne in this way. LAKONIAN GOLDIES - GREECE

GENERATIONAL CHANGE Every organisation which fails or neglects to lay strong foundations upon which future generations can build upon is doomed to fail. The Pallaconian Brotherhood Leonidas was created in order to maintain and retain its cultural origins, language, customs and history. In doing so it enables each generation to add to the body of community knowledge left as a legacy by those who tread this earth before us. Each generation is therefore tasked with the responsibility of maintaining those legacies by continually developing new ideas and creative concepts that challenge and enhance the paradigms of the past. To implement and attract succeeding generations the community must be attractive to the youth of today and of future generations without being encumbered by outdated and innocuous concepts that have no relevance in today's society. We as a community must embrace the new technologies and assist our community members to develop to their full potential without seeking acknowledgement in return. CHILDREN'S CHARITY - ΤΟ ΧΑΜΟΓΕΛΟ ΤΟΥ ΠΕΔΙΟΥ Members of the Committee of Management attended the "Το Χαμόγελο του Πεδίου" charity dinner on Saturday 22 November 2014. Mr. & Mrs. Tsaganas, Mr. & Mrs. Pangiotakakos, Sam Mihelakos, Argyroula Stamogiannou, Mr. & Mrs. Bakis, Mr. & Mrs. Kannelakos and Peter Adamis along with other members of the Laconian community were evident. The dinner is an annual event conducted by Mr. & Mrs. Athanasakis who raise thousands of dollars for charities. A TIME OF REFLECTION Many Australian Laconian families have lost a loved one and as such with each newsletter we shall publish those who have succumbed to the challenges of this life. In this edition we have added a number of family names but the list is far from complete and will take time to add them all. For life as we know it, has a time span of its own. A beginning and an end. We will, if at all possible publish a brief outline of their life as a mark of respect and to record for future generations, their contributions to this land we call home (Australia). It is important to remember that although the Pallaconian Brotherhood has lost many of its members to the harbinger of time, they are not forgotten. These Laconian flowers, are but a small tribute to all those who have gone before us. They shall be remembered.
