Parish News Father s Day Celebration -June 16th Sunday, June 16th is Father s Day and, the Meimetis Family will host the coffee hour.we welcome everybody to join us! Various Scholarships There are various scholarships available for graduates or college students. Please contact the church office at (603) 623-2045 to obtain a copy of the applications. Summer Hours - Starting Sunday, July 7th Our summer hours will be in effect on July 7th. Orthros 8:30 a.m., Divine Liturgy: 9:30 a.m. Please remember, summer is not a time to take vacation away from God. Please try to attend church regularly. Greekfest Ad/Program Book The printer s deadline for placing your company ad or personal message in our Greekfest Ad Book is around the corner (June 30th). If you would like to participate, please submit your ad copy asap. With your help, last year s Greekfest Ad Book was a huge success!! Your support is once again needed and most appreciated. Bingo Our church bingo operation is looking for a new Bingo Treasurer. The position will only require a few hours of your time per month. If you are interested in helping our parish with this important fundraising group, please contact Costa Georgopoulos or Teddy Rokas at the church office 623-2045. Roof Fundraiser Living in New England, the weather is not kind to buildings and our Church is no exception. Our current roof has serious issues that are allowing water into the church. The Parish Council recognized this over a year ago and has spent the time to investigate the options of repairing the existing roof or replacing it. In that regard we have established a Roof Fundraising campaign to raise $50,000. Our goal is to raise these funds over the next two months so the work can be finished during the early summer before our Festival in August. Your generous donation will help cover the cost of replacing the roof in order to preserve our church. With the support of our parishioners, as well as the benevolence of community businesses and individuals we have raised so far over $25,000.00! We would like to thank you for your unlimited love and support that you have shown for our church, and would kindly ask for your support so that we can overcome this obstacle. METROPOLIS MINISTRY AWARD 2013 THEODOROS ROKAS Theodoros Rokas, a dedicated steward of the Assumption Church, will receive the Metropolis of Boston Ministry Award from Metropolitan Methodios at the annual awards banquet on June 9. Theodoros was born in Manchester, to parents who immigrated to the United States from Porti, Karditsa, Greece almost 40 years ago. The Rokas family moved to Greece and lived in Athens for a few years, but returned to Manchester in 1986. Theodoros became involved in parish life at an early age, attending Sunday School and Greek School, and serving as an altar boy. He was active in GOYA and was treasurer of that organization. Theodoros continues to devote his time, energy, and talents to the parish in various ways. He is currently serving his fourth term on the Parish Council, and has been treasurer for the past six years. Theodoros updated the church's financial system and financial reporting system, making financial reports more transparent and easier to understand. In addition, Theodoros has co-chaired or assisted with many parish events, such as Greekfest, the 75 th Anniversary celebration, the annual Spring Dance, the New Year s Eve celebration, and, most recently, the selection of the contractor and the fundraising for the church's new roof. Theodoros is committed to public service as well. He was elected a New Hampshire State Representative in 2008, and is currently serving his third term as a representative. During his tenure, he has served on the Transportation, Education, State-Federal, and Veterans Affairs Committees. Theodoros is also a member of the Manchester School Board, where he chairs the Finance and Superintendent Search Committees. He has also been a high school basketball coach for 15 years, and is a member of the board of the World Hellenic Interparliamentary Association (WHIA). Theodoros has followed the example set by his parents - Vasilios, who has been the chanter at the Assumption Church since 1986, and Fotini, who is active in the Assumption Philoptochos Society. His brother Mihail is the Secretary of the Parish Council. We congratulate Theodoros on this well-deserved honor! 5
