Message from Father George A GROUNDBREAKING EFFORT The recently released Strategic Plan for the Metropolis of Atlanta begins with a very important and exciting proclamation: The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta and its Parishes welcome all people seeking salvation, love, truth, and fulfillment. Progress and success requires periodically assessing where you are, where you want to be, and how you will get there. The Metropolis of Atlanta is a pioneer in undertaking such a systematic, ambitious, and exciting process. We are focused on helping our faithful and creating the strongest and most dynamic Parishes. This comprehensive Strategic Plan will help all of us manage the business of our Parishes without turning our Parishes into a business. Together, we will make history as we implement this Strategic Plan for the benefit of our Parishes and parishioners. This project identifies basic Core Values that we believe will drive our culture and priorities and provide a framework for decision-making. These Core Values are Christ-centered; love; sacred Apostolic tradition; education, training, and leadership development; outreach and evangelism; integrity, accountability and transparency; family; service and philanthropy; stewardship; hospitality, acceptance, welcoming and embracing; and spiritual growth. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, at 7:00 pm at the Cathedral after the Great Vespers service. Please mark this date on your personal calendar and be with us for this special event for the growth of our Parish Community and Metropolis. At this meeting we will review the Strategic Plan and seek enthusiastic volunteers to work on this project. To view the Final Strategic Plan go to http://stewardshipcalling.com, under the section Pages click on the title Atlanta Metropolis Strategic Plan, and then click on the link Final Metropolis of Atlanta Strategic Plan. The Plan will be implemented over the next three to five years with very specific goals and deadlines, some of which have already been completed. With the successful implementation of the Plan, our anticipated outcome, as expressed in the vision statement will be as follows: We will grow the Metropolis of Atlanta and personally grow in Christ and make disciples, by living as witnesses of our faith through loving, faithful, and purposeful Orthodox Christian communities focused on worship, education, stewardship, philanthropy, and fellowship. This is an exciting time for our Parish, Metropolis, and His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios. We invite you all to participate in this groundbreaking endeavor, which is being fueled by the scriptural passage from Proverbs 29:18 - Where there is no vision, the people will perish. Resurrection Apolytikion Plagal Tone 1 Let us worship the Word who is unoriginate with the Father and the Spirit, and from a Virgin was born for our salvation, O believers, and let us sing His praise. For in His goodness He was pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to undergo death, and to raise up those who had died, by His glorious Resurrection. Apolytikion of the Holy Trinity Plagal Tone 4 Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who made fishermen all-wise, sending upon them the Holy Spirit and, through them, netting the world. O Loving One, glory to You. Kontakion Tone 2 Protector of Christians, champion undefeated, mediator most sure with our creator, disregard not the voice of prayer of sinners, but come quickly in your goodness, to help us who cry out to you with faith: Be swift to intercede, make haste to supplicate, O Theotokos, protector always of those who honor you.

BRETHREN, having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. THE GOSPEL Matthew 9:1-8 At that time, getting into a boat Jesus crossed over and came to his own city. And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven." And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming." But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say 'Rise and walk?' But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" he then said to the paralytic -- "Rise, take up your bed and go home." And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

Nataliya Petrovska-Molsbee Nataliya was born in Odessa, Ukraine. Both of her parents were teachers, and from an early age Nataliya displayed great musical abilities. She began playing piano and singing when she was six years old in the Odessa School of Music. Soon, she became a soloist in the choir that toured France, Poland, Lebanon, as well as the former USSR. In 2005, Nataliya began studying voice at the Musical Academy of Odessa. Upon graduation, she took part in many concerts in Italy and the Ukraine. Her repertoire includes arias of Gershwin, Floyd, Wolf, Puccini, Verdi, Donizetti, Massenett, Saint-Saens, and various Russian and German composers. Currently, Nataliya lives in Long Beach, Mississippi, with her husband Ricky. She teaches vocal and piano at Gulf Coast School of Music and The Next Level School of Art. She also is the pianist at St. Joseph Catholic Church and recently took part in the Music Convention in Chicago. James Harrell James was born in Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He took voice lessons at an early age, and upon hearing his teacher singing opera with another student, he decided that was what he wanted to learn. James enrolled in the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts in Vocal Performing. While he was a student, Lady Bird Johnson visited the Manhattan School of Music and heard him sing in a show. She invited him to do two command performances at the White House for President LBJ. As a classical singer he has performed at many New York venues, including the Town Hall (the oldest classical hall in the U.S.), the Avery Fisher & Alice Tully Concert Halls, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the United Nations. For the last fifteen years, James has taught voice at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center and in private lessons on the coast of Mississippi. Karen Johnson Henderson A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Karen now resides in Gulfport, Mississippi, with husband Craig. Karen has sung in church choirs most of her adult life. She has sung as a soloist on many occasions, such as weddings. Karen has sung for family and friends to celebrate their family members home goings. Karen says she was humbled and honored to sing the National Anthem for the opening of three Greek Night celebrations hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Biloxi, Mississippi. She also sang for the Church s Consecration Ceremony. Although Karen loves many types of music, she developed a flare for Gospel music through the encouragement of Mr. Davenport, choir director of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in New Orleans. Karen also credits Judith D Angelo, former choir director of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gulfport, Mississippi, in helping her give a sharper musical presentation.
