Sunday, December 4 ~ Continued 12:00 pm ~ Parish Council Elections in Boardroom 12:00 pm ~ Philoptochos Angel Tree Project in Coffee Room Message from Father George WE MUST WALK AS CHRISTIANS In today s Epistle reading from his letter to the Ephesian Christians, Saint Paul continues to remind the early Christians that a relationship with Christ as our Lord and God comes with a great reward. Recognizing the truth that through Adam sin afflicted all of mankind, he says, even when we were dead through our trespasses. Sin, any sin, will lead us into a life that is spiritually dead, but we must know that this is not a hopeless situation. As a Christian, we become alive again through the realization of the great gift given to us at our Baptism. We have put on Christ as we were immersed into the waters of Baptism, and then through our Confirmation we have been sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit. At that instant, we were blessed by God in a special way, having been cleansed and illumined and made into a new creation by the Grace of God. Saint Paul says, For by grace you have been saved through faith; and, this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God. When we received this gift, we were set apart to do good works. We will not be saved through works but because we have received the grace of God. We were made special, blessed, and left with God s command to go forward and do His will. As God s creatures, we are His workmanship. So often, modern literature poses the question: What is the meaning of life? The answer is available in the Word of God and explained by Saint Paul when he reminds us that we are created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Our life is a gift from God with the hope and expectation that we exercise our God-given free will and do works in His Name. AHEPA-DAUGHTERS CHRISTMAS PARTY The AHEPA-Daughters of Penelope Christmas party will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at 6:00 pm in the Hellenic Cultural Center. All AHEPANS, Daughters, and their spouses are invited to attend. CATHEDRAL CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS Please consider helping Evangelia Kouniaris and her assistants this Wednesday, November 30, as they decorate the Cathedral for the Nativity Season. The group will begin working after church services that day. Your participation will be greatly appreciated. GOYA COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS CARD GOYA is once again ready to assist with your holiday greetings through its beautiful Community Christmas Card! Save precious time and postage, while supporting GOYA, by adding your name or organization to this year's Christmas card that will be mailed to the entire community. Proceeds from the holiday greetings project sustain the spiritual, service, social, and athletic activities of GOYA throughout the year. Look for the table in the Coffee Room, where you may complete your form and submit your donation of $20. The youth of Holy Trinity appreciate your support and wish you a joyous holiday season! EPIPHANY SWIMMERS The 4th Annual Epiphany Celebration will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2017. Members of the community are encouraged to consider applying to be a Cross Retrieval swimmer. This is a wonderful opportunity to spiritually celebrate the baptism of Christ in the Jordan River by St. John the Forerunner as swimmers attempt to retrieve the blessed wooden cross from Bayou St. John in front of the Cathedral. The one, who retrieves the cross, receives a special blessing from the Church, a gold cross and chain, a personal plaque, and his name engraved on the Theophany Plaque in the Hellenic Cultural Center. All swimmers receive a special blessing in the Church prior to the swim, are honored for their participation in this celebration of our Faith, and are recognized at the Epiphany Luncheon Program. All GOYANS and young adults of the community are encouraged to consider being a swimmer for this event, which involves only about a minute in the water to swim to retrieve the cross. Swimmer applications are available in the Narthex and Cathedral office. Please submit applications by December 16. STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY December 4 is designated as Stewardship Sunday 2017. That day a table will be placed in the Hellenic Cultural Center, where you can pick up your personalized (individual or family) 2017 stewardship form. The Stewardship Committee asks that you review the information contained on the form and make any needed changes before returning the updated sheet, along with your 2017 commitment, to the Cathedral office during the month of December. Payments are not needed at this time, only the amount that you pledge to give for 2017. This helps the Parish Council prepare a more accurate budget for the coming year and also ensures that the Cathedral office has up to date contact information for you. Thank you for your cooperation and your continued support of the Church.

Resurrectional Apolytikion Plagal Tone 2 Angelic powers were above Your tomb, and they that guarded You became as dead. And Mary stood by the grave seeking Your immaculate Body. You despoiled Hades and were not tried thereby. You met the Virgin and granted us life. O You Who arose from the dead, Lord, glory be to You. Apolytikion of the Saint Tone 4 Your Martyr, O Lord, was worthily awarded by You the crown of incorruption, in that he contested for You our immortal God. Since he possessed Your power, he defeated the tyrants, dashing the demons' powerless displays of defiance. O Christ God, at his fervent entreaties, save our souls. Apolytikion of the Holy Trinity Plagal Tone 4 Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who made fishermen all-wise, sending upon them the Holy Spirit and, through them, netting the world. O Loving One, glory to You. Kontakion Tone 3 On this day the Virgin cometh to the cave to give birth to God the Word ineffably, Who was before all the ages. Dance for joy, O earth, on hearing the gladsome tidings; with the Angels and the shepherds now glorify Him Who is willing to be gazed on as a young Child Who before the ages is God.
THE EPISTLE Ephesians 2:4-10 O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance. To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God. BRETHREN, God who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with him, and made us sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God: not because of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. THE GOSPEL Luke 18:18-27 At that time, a ruler came to Jesus and asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.' " And he said, "All these I have observed from my youth." And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich. Jesus looking at him said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?" But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."
