As the students and their buddies learnt more about each other, their friendships grew stronger and by the end of the week, developed into lifelong friendships. The Chinese students got a taste of Greece when they had their very first gyros. A welcoming BBQ that was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole school. Following that, the students and their buddies got to try something that is loved in China, ping pong. This was an unforgettable experience for them and for us. Saint Euphemia Day, Saturday 16 September 2017 28 October 1940 OXI DAY On the following day, we all participated in dance classes. A mix of cultures was spread out over the playground as the Chinese students taught us how to dance Chinese and we taught them how to Greek dance. Everyone embraced this as a chance to learn a part of another culture which everyone loved. Later, Gymnastics was relished by all. The Chinese students seized the chance to show off their great gymnastic skills at PCYC. The international students had the chance to experience what it is like to cook in Australia when they got to watch a Year 11 Hospitality class. They were inquisitive about our religion and learnt all about the Greek Orthodox religion from Father Peter. The students attended classes in various subjects such as English and Mathematics, where they shared their knowledge. On the final day, we had to say goodbye to our new friends. We held a farewell assembly where there were multiple speeches, dances and awards. This was a great way to send off our new friends. Subsequently, an afternoon tea was planned where a Page 1
cake table was set up and a cake was cut for the birthday girl. There were tears when the bell rang and the final hugs were given. This was a week that will never be forgotten in St Euphemia History. Page 2
Resources Rewards Two significant events for the School have been the Fun Run and Chinese Students Tour. An article on the Fun Run was published in the August newsletter and the Chinese Students Tour is in this month s newsletter. Both these functions raised $17000. This amount was increased by a $1000 donation from the Parents/Caregivers and Friends Association. The money was used to purchase ICT resources for both the Primary and High School. Fifteen Samsung tablets were presented by Mr Hirakis to the Primary School. The five Primary School laptops and the five projectors for the High School are on order. This is an outstanding achievement for the School Community who collaborated and participated so enthusiastically in both these rewarding school activities. OBJECTION On 23 September 2016, the School placed an objection to the building proposal at 220 South Terrace Bankstown (Sweet City). Since that time, the School is in receipt of a Development Modification Proposal. The proposal is to construct an extra basement level parking accommodating one hundred and sixty cars on site, for the nine storey, ninety three residential units and commercial premises. This matter has concerned the School in terms of the adverse traffic flow and overshadowing of the High School playground. The entry and exit to the proposed basement carparks will be in East Terrace, in close proximity to the pedestrian crossing at the front of the School. This issue was raised at the July PC&F meeting. Consequently, the School engaged Don Fox Planning Consultants to lodge an objection to Canterbury Bankstown Council. The objection was lodged on 3 August 2017. The School is currently awaiting the outcome of the submission. Uniform Shop Beginning on 2 September, the uniform shop will be open on Saturday mornings from 8.30-10.30 am. Page 3

Primary News We look forward to welcoming our newest members to Kindergarten in 2018. Kindergarten Orientation Day On Thursday 12 October, St Euphemia College will be holding its Kindergarten Orientation for the newest members joining our School community in 2018. Orientation Day will begin at 9:30am in the New School Hall and will include performances from the current Kindergarten classes as well as a tour of the School. Morning tea will be provided for the parents/caregivers and their children. After morning tea, the new students will have the opportunity to join the current Kindergarten classes for some enjoyable learning activities. We look forward to seeing all our new students and their parents/caregivers on the day. Kindergarten Transition Program Our Kindergarten Transition Program will be held in Term 4 over 3 weeks. Prospective students attend these visits to familiarise themselves with the School, allowing them to experience the School organisation and routine. During the Transition visits, the students will be visiting the Kindergarten classrooms while the parents/caregivers will take part in a series of workshops to familiarise themselves with the School. These meetings will be held in the Conference Room, located within the Primary Library. The parents/caregivers and their children are to enter through the Stacey Street entrance. The gates will be opened at 1:30pm. The Transition Program will be held from 1:45 to 2:45 pm on the following dates: Thursday 19 October Thursday 26 October Thursday 2 November School Fees A reminder that School fees must be paid prior to the commencement of each term. If there are any parents who have not yet paid, please make arrangements to do so as soon as possible. Thank you to the parents who are up to date with their payments. Uniform Shop The Uniform Shop will now be open on Saturday mornings from 8:30-10:30, in addition to Tuesdays and Thursdays. The new opening day will commence from Saturday, 2 September. Church Attendance Church Attendance for September is as follows: Sunday 10 September - Years 1 and 2. Students are to meet their class teachers outside the church hall at 9:45am. Baby News Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Stratikopoulos on the recent birth of their beautiful baby boy, Anasta Peter. He was born on the most Holy Day the Dormition of the Theotokos, August 15. We wish Mr and Mrs Stratikopoulos and their son Johnny, all the very best with their new baby son and brother. Father s Day Father s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September to recognise the contribution that fathers and father figures make in the lives of their children. We hope that everyone enjoyed the wonderful gifts the students made in class for their father and father figures as well as the gifts purchased from the Father s Day Stall. Thank you to everyone who attended the Father s Day breakfast and had a wonderful time with their families. We wish everyone a Happy Father s Day. Page 5
Public Speaking The St Euphemia Public Speaking Competition has been progressing extremely well. The teachers have had the opportunity to listen to a variety of topics and are very proud of the students efforts. Three students from each class will be chosen to progress to the Semi Final round which will be will be held in Week 8. We wish all of our students the best of luck in the Grand Finals next term. Maths Cup School Mathematics Competition Our school is excited to announce our participation in the Maths Cup School Mathematics Competition specifically designed for Year 6 students. The Maths Cup redefines how students experience Mathematics. It is designed to encourage a greater student interest in Mathematics, to put the fun back into functions, to create a desire to solve challenging puzzles and to foster a joy within students for problem solving and teamwork. Six Year 6 students were selected to represent our school and they will compete in two teams of three. Team 1: Dean Mitsoulis, Nathaniel Sleiman, Nikolas Sokos The competition will be held on Thursday 7 September and will run from 9:30am to 3:30pm at Amity College, Prestons. Students are to wear their full winter school uniform, including blazers and bring their own packed recess and lunch. We would like to wish our students and their Maths Cup teacher, Ms Koliris, all the very best. Co-Curricular Clubs Co-curricular clubs conclude on Monday, 11 September. Please note that there will be no cocurricular clubs in Term 4. We hope that the students have enjoyed the experience and we are looking forward to commencing again in Term 1 in 2018. St Euphemia Day and School Fete On Saturday 16 September we will be celebrating our patron Saint - Saint Euphemia. On Sunday 17 September, after the church service, the School will be holding a fete to celebrate this special day. There will be a variety of rides, stalls, food and entertainment. Students will be able to prepurchase a wrist band for $30 for rides. Team 2: Timothy Papas, Eleni Kalantzis, Andrea Koutsiofi The stations included are: MatChoice, MatOperator and MatRace. These students will participate in a variety of activities comprising of multiple choice questions, reading targets and hands on challenges, all of which are to be completed within a given time frame. All contributions add to the team s points. The best teams from the qualifying rounds will compete in the finals. We look forward to an exciting day. Woolworths Earn and Learn Program The Woolworths Earn and Learn Program will end on Tuesday 19 September. Thank you to all students who have brought in sticker sheets so far. Grandparents Day On Friday 13 October, the Prep and Kindergarten classes will be hosting Grandparents Day. We invite the Grandparents of Prep and Kindergarten to come and join us for special afternoon of performances from the Kindergarten students. Grandparents Day will be held at 1:45pm in the new hall. We look forward to seeing you all. School Disco Page 6
On Friday 13 October, the PC&F committee will be hosting a School Disco in the new school hall from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Entry is $5.00. Food, drinks, snacks and merchandise will be available for purchase on the night. So get your dancing shoes ready and come and join us for a night of fun. OXI Day Saturday 28 October commemorates the anniversary of OXI day when former military general and Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas said No to an ultimatum made by the Italian Prime Minister Benito Mussolini to allow Italian forces to occupy strategic locations in Greece or otherwise face war back in 1940. We remember this day in our Greek calendar with a sense of pride and gratitude. On Sunday 29 October, poems about OXI day will be recited in church and at the conclusion of the Church service, some students from the Primary School will be taking part in a short celebration to commemorate this event. Taverna Night On Saturday 11 November, the PC&F committee will be hosting a Taverna Night. Keep the date free. There will be more details to follow. Conclusion of Term 3 Friday 22 September Term 3 concludes on Friday 22 September. Students will attend an end of Term Church service, where they will receive Holy Communion. Please prepare students accordingly. Happy and safe holidays to all! Commencement of Term 4 - Monday 9 October Term 4 begins on Monday 9 October. Students are to return to School wearing their summer uniform. We look forward to another exciting term. Sport News Bus Transport Levies Thank you to all the parents/caregivers who have paid the Bus Levy for Term 3. If you have not yet paid, please do so by Friday 1 September. The amount payable is $30. PSSA Winter Competition Our Winter Competition has now come to an end. Congratulations to the Junior Boys Soccer Team who made it to the Semi-Finals. Despite their hard efforts, they were defeated 3-0 by Bankstown North. Thank you to all the coaches and all the teams for their dedication both at training and at the games. We look forward to continuing with our Summer Competition in Week 8. Sports Photos Photos for all team sports, including Athletics and Swimming Representative Teams will be held on Friday, 1 September. All students are to come to school dressed in their sports uniform (Basketball and Soccer teams will need to wear their jerseys). PSSA Training - Summer Competition Training for the PSSA Summer Competition begins on Wednesday 6 September and Thursday 7 September with the games to follow on Friday 8 September. Please note the training schedule. Wednesdays - Senior Basketball at 3:10pm in the School playground. Concludes at 4:15pm. Thursdays - Junior Basketball at 3:10pm in the School playground. Concludes at 4:15pm. Thursdays - T-Ball, Softball and Cricket at Kearns Oval. Concludes at 4:00pm. Parents/Caregivers may pick up their children from the park at 4:00pm. A reminder to parents to please collect their children from their respective training sessions promptly and not to leave siblings unattended at School during training times. Please remind students to have their hat and a bottle of water with them at all training sessions. Greek Orthodox Combined Athletics Carnival St Euphemia is hosting the combined carnival on Monday 11 September, at The Crest Sporting Complex, Bass Hill. The bus will depart school at 8:20am and the carnival will commence at 9:00am. We wish our students all the best as they compete with their sister Greek Orthodox Schools. Parents/Caregivers are welcome to attend and support our students. Excursions Kindergarten Kindergarten will be going on an excursion to Vaucluse House on Tuesday 19 September as part of their History unit on Personal and Family Histories. The cost of the excursion is $40. Please place the money in a sealed envelope with your child s name and class on the front and hand it to your child s class teacher by Monday 11 September. Students are required to be at school by 8:00am. The students will depart at 8:15am sharp and return to school by 3:00pm. Students are to bring their own packed recess, lunch and water bottle in a small backpack. Students are to wear their winter sports uniform, including their hat. In the event of wet weather, the excursion will proceed as planned. Students are to bring their raincoats if rain is forecasted. Year 1 Year 1 will be going on an excursion to Sydney Wildlife Zoo on Friday 8 September as part of their English unit on Pets and Animals. The cost of the excursion is $40. Please place the money in a sealed envelope with your child s name on the front and hand it to your child s class teacher by Friday 1 September. Students are required to be at school by 8:30am. The students will depart at 8:45am and return to school by 3:10pm. They need to bring their own packed recess, lunch and water bottle in a small backpack. Students are to wear their winter sports uniform, including their hat. In the event of wet weather, the excursion will proceed as planned. Students are to bring their raincoats if rain is forecasted. Year 2 Year 2 will be going on an excursion to Rouse Hill House & Farm on Friday 8 September as part of their History unit, Now and Then. The cost of the excursion is $45. Students will depart school at 8:30am sharp and return to school at approximately 3:10pm. They need to bring their own packed recess, lunch and water bottle. Students will need to bring their raincoats if rain is forecasted. Year 5 Year 5 will be going on camp to Mogo Goldfields and Mogo Zoo on Wednesday 13 September to Thursday 14 September as part of their HSIE unit on Gold as well as their Science unit on Adaptations. Students will depart at 7:00am sharp and return to school on Thursday 14 September at approximately 6:00pm, depending on traffic conditions. Students are to bring their own packed recess, lunch, snacks and a water bottle for the first day and may bring a maximum of $50 to spend on lunch and/or souvenirs. They must wear warm casual clothing on the day of the departure and bring all other items as specified on the camp note. Please note that no mobile phones or electronic devices are permitted. Parents may call the School hotline on: 82300246 for regular updates on the students progress and for an estimated arrival time. LAST MONTH International Student Study Tour Our School was privileged to welcome and host 19 students from China as part of the Chinese Students Tour. The students were welcomed with a special K- 12 assembly followed a barbecue. They partook in a variety of activities such as Art, cooking, dancing and sports. Our students also performed for the visiting students by showcasing their Greek Dancing and Bouzouki playing skills. Kindergarten chanted the beautiful St Euphemia hymn, Year 1 sang Greek songs, Year 5 showed them their Tai Chi moves and Year 6 performed the Mexican Hat Dance. The students thoroughly enjoyed their visit to our School and our students were enriched by this cultural experience. Year 6 Year 6 will be going on an excursion to the city on Wednesday 6 September as part of their History Unit on Australia as a Nation. The cost of the excursion is $30. All payments were required by Monday 28 August. Students are required to be at school by 8:35am. They need to bring their own packed recess, lunch and water bottle in a small backpack. Students are to wear their winter sports uniform, including their hat. In the event of wet weather, the excursion will be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date. Jeans for Genes Day Friday 4 August On Friday 4 August, students wore their jeans in support of the Children s Medical Research Institute and made a gold coin donation. All money raised has now gone towards the work of the scientists at the Children s Medical Research Institute. These scientists work to try and prevent diseases such as leukaemia or where that is not possible, to develop better treatments. Thank you to all the students and teachers who made a donation. Debating Team On August 11, St Euphemia welcomed Santa Sabina College. The topic was Children should choose what they learn at school. It was a very close debate with one win and one loss. Author Visit Wednesday 16 August On Wednesday 16 August, the celebrated author Mr Morris Gleitzman visited our School to share his wealth of knowledge on books and writing expertise with the students from Year 2 to Year 6. Mr Gleitzman shared some tips and ideas with the students, on how to get started on a story and he read a few excerpts from a selection of his books. Students had the opportunity to pre-purchase one of his books, which he then signed. We were delighted to have Mr Morris Gleitzman at St Euphemia. The next debate will be at Montgrove College on Friday 8 September. We wish our students best of luck for another round of debating. Dormition of the Theotokos - Monday 15 August On Monday 14 August, students from Prep to Year 6 partook in a special church service led by Father Panagioti for the Dormition of the Theotokos. We were very proud of how our students conducted themselves during the duration of the service. Page 11
Book Week Monday 21 Friday 26 August Reading Rainforest Go Wild for Books! was this year s Book Week theme. Students were given the opportunity to purchase wonderful material from an enormous selection of books at our Book Fair. I would like to thank the parents who took the time to visit our Book Fair and purchase books. Students also enjoyed the chance to dress up as their favourite book character on Wednesday 23 August. The teachers also borrowed some magical inspiration from the Rainforest Theme and came to school dressed as Rainforest Fairies. The Prep and Infants classes dazzled both teachers and parents with their captivating performances. On Thursday 25 August, students participated in our Annual Art Competition. The students put their drawing skills to the test and produced some amazing artworks. The winners of the Art Competition will be announced in the next newsletter. I thank Ms Vourtsanis and the teachers for organising such a memorable event for our School. Page 12
IPSHA Athletics Carnival Tuesday 29 August On Tuesday 29 August, students from Years 3 to 6 participated in the IPSHA Athletics Carnival at Homebush Athletics Centre. The competition was very tough but our students did very well. We were proud of all their efforts. A special mention to Harris Kontobassis who was chosen to represent IPSHA at the CIS Athletics Carnival. Excursions Prep to Year 6 -Science Incursion On Thursday 27 July, we were pleased to welcome Fizzics Education to our School. All students from Prep to Year 6 had the amazing and unique opportunity to participate in the Interactive Science workshops. A fun day was had by all. I thank Mr Nicodemou for organising the event for our School. Page 13

Year 3 North Head On Monday 21 August, Year 3 had the opportunity to visit Sydney s North Head in Manly as part of their Science unit on Mini Beasts. Students had fun learning about soil, mini beasts and our Aboriginal heritage. Page 15
High School News FORTHCOMING EVENTS Year 11 Examinations The Preliminary Course is already over and Year 11 will soon begin their HSC study. The Yearly Examinations are a way to practise and refine examination skills in preparation for next year. Students in Year 11 will sit for the Preliminary Examinations between Monday, 4 September and Friday, 8 September. We wish all students good luck! Father s Day We hope all fathers had an enjoyable Father s Day, including those fathers who attended the breakfast at school. St Euphemia Day On Saturday, 16 September, the School and Church Community commemorate the death of our patron saint, St Euphemia, who displayed courage and love for the Lord. There will be a fete on Sunday 17 September, where all the St Euphemia community can enjoy a fun day out. All families are invited to come and enjoy the food, Greek dancing, stalls, raffles and more. Holy Communion The end of term church service will take place on Friday, 15 September. All students are encouraged to prepare for Holy Communion. The PC&F Committee provide a Farewell Breakfast for all Year 12 students on the morning of Thursday, 21 September at 7.00am in the Common Room. On the same evening, a liturgical service and formal dinner will be held at 6.30pm. All Year 12 students and their families will receive invitations to attend the dinner, as we formally bid farewell to the outgoing Year 12 students and their families. We look forward to seeing all our students and their families at this important occasion. End of Term Term three ends on Friday, 22 September and resumes on Monday, 9 October. We wish all the students a happy and safe holiday. Term Four School will resume for all students on Monday, 9 October. All students are expected to wear their summer uniform. Term four will be a short yet busy term with Yearly Examinations for Years 7-10 and the Higher School Certificate for Year 12. Year 11 Retreat Year 11 will be attending their spiritual retreat on Monday, 9 October till Thursday, 12 October. Students will be participating in a variety of activities that will prepare them for the Higher School Certificate. Year 12 Breakfast and Dinner On Thursday, 21 September, we farewell our current Year 12 students who conclude their schooling career. An emotional day for many of the students who have spent thirteen years at the School! HSC Examinations The Higher School Certificate Examinations begin on Monday, 16 October. Many students have already experienced the HSC due to major works being submitted for marking and the Modern Greek oral examinations that took place last month. Page 16
They now have the school holidays to study and practise past papers. Time management is crucial and practising past papers in the allocated time is excellent preparation for all exams. We wish all our students good luck! Page 17
Τα Νέα της Αγίας Ευφημίας Επίσκεψη Κινέζων Στο Κολλέγιο της Αγίας Ευφημίας εκτιμούμε την πολιτιστική διαφορετικότητα και την ανεκτικότητα, και ενθαρρύνουμε την επικοινωνία και τα οφέλη που προκύπτουν από την επίσκεψη διεθνών μαθητών στο σχολείο μας. Έχουμε την τιμή να φιλοξενούμε δεκαεννέα μαθητές που ήρθαν από την Κίνα στα πλαίσια του Προγράμματος Εκπαιδευτικής Περιήγησης. Κινέζικη Επίσκεψη Τη Δευτέρα 31 Ιουλίου, το Κολλέγιο της Αγίας Ευφημίας καλωσόρισε τους Κινέζους μαθητές που ήρθαν να μας επισκεφθούν. Καθώς γνωριστήκαν καλύτερα μεταξύ τους οι Κινέζοι μαθητές με τους μαθητές του Σχολείου μας, αναπτύχθηκε μεταξύ τους μία δυνατή φιλία ζωής. Την τελευταία μέρα αποχαιρετίσαμε τους καινούργιους μας φίλους με διάφορες ομιλίες, χορούς και βραβεία. Το απόγευμα προσφέρθηκε τσάι, και κόπηκε μια τούρτα για να γιορτάσαμε τα γενέθλια μιας Κινέζας μαθήτριας. Υπήρξαν πολλά δάκρυα και πολλές αγκαλιές. Η εβδομάδα αυτή θα μείνει αξέχαστή στην Ιστορία του Κολλεγίου της Αγίας Ευφημίας. Ώρες Λειτουργίας του Μαγαζιού Σχολικών Στολών Το μαγαζί που πουλά είδη της σχολικής στολής θα είναι ανοιχτό κάθε Σάββατο πρωί μεταξύ 8.30πμ- 10:30πμ -ξεκινώντας από το Σάββατο 2 Σεπτεμβρίουπαράλληλα με τις ώρες που θα ανοίγει την Τρίτη και την Πέμπτη. Οι Κινέζοι μαθητές πήραν μία γεύση Ελλάδας με τον πρώτο γύρο που δοκίμασαν. Ακολούθησε το μπάρμπεκιου που έγινε για να τους καλωσορίσουμε στο Σχολείο μας. Μετά ακολούθησε μία εκδήλωση που έγινε μεταξύ των Κινέζων μαθητών και των Φίλων τους, όπου παίξανε το κινέζικο παιχνίδι, πινγκ πονγκ. Την επόμενη μέρα, το Σχολείο μας πήρε μέρος σε μαθήματα χορού. Η Κινέζοι μαθητές μάς έδειξαν διάφορες φιγούρες κινέζικου χορού, ενώ οι Έλληνες μαθητές έμαθαν στους Κινέζους πως να χορεύουν Ελληνικούς χορούς. Έγινε δηλαδή ένας συγκερασμός κουλτουρών. Έπειτα ακολούθησε μία σειρά Γυμναστικών επιδείξεων, όπου οι Κινέζοι μας έδειξαν τις δεξιότητές τους στη Γυμναστική. Οι διεθνείς μαθητές είχαν την ευκαιρία να βιώσουν ένα μάθημα μαγειρικής από τους μαθητές της Γ Λυκείου, μαθήματα Θρησκευτικών από τον Πατέρα Παναγιώτη, καθώς και άλλα μαθήματα, όπως Αγγλικά και Μαθηματικά, όπου έγινε μία ανταλλαγή γνώσεων. ΤA ΝEA TOU ΔHMOTIKOU Ημέρα Προσανατολισμού Νηπιαγωγείου Την Πέμπτη 12 Οκτωβρίου θα λάβει χώρα η Ημέρα Προσανατολισμού του Νηπιαγωγείου για τα νέα μέλη της Σχολικής μας κοινότητας που θα έρθουν το 2018. Η Ημέρα Προσανατολισμού ξεκινά στις 9.30πμ στην Αίθουσα Τελετών του Σχολείου μας και θα συμπεριλαμβάνει παραστάσεις των μαθητών του Νηπιαγωγείου της φετινής χρονιάς καθώς και μια περιήγηση του Σχολείου. Επίσης θα προσφερθεί πρωινό τσάι και εδέσματα για τους γονείς και τα παιδιά τους. Μετά το πρωινό τσάι, οι νέοι μαθητές θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να επισκεφθούν τις τάξεις του Νηπιαγωγείου και να πάρουν μέρος σε ευχάριστες δραστηριότητες. Ευελπιστούμε να δούμε όλους τους νέους μας μαθητές και τους γονείς τους την ημέρα αυτή. Το Πρόγραμμα Ένταξης στο Νηπιαγωγείο Το Πρόγραμμα Ένταξης στο Νηπιαγωγείο θα λάβει χώρα στη διάρκεια του Δ Τρίμηνου και θα διαρκέσει για 3 εβδομάδες. Οι μελλοντικοί μαθητές μπορούν να επισκεφθούν το Σχολείο μας και να εγκλιματιστούν στη ρουτίνα και την οργάνωση του. Στη διάρκεια των επισκέψεων του Προγράμματος Ένταξης στο Νηπιαγωγείο, οι μαθητές θα επισκεφθούν τις τάξεις του Νηπιαγωγείου και θα πάρουν μέρος σε ευχάριστες δραστηριότητες, όσο οι γονείς/κηδεμόνες θα πάρουν μέρος σε κάποια εργαστήρια γνωριμίας του Σχολείου. Οι συναντήσεις αυτές θα λάβουν χώρα στην Αίθουσα Συσκέψεων που βρίσκεται στη Βιβλιοθήκη του Δημοτικού. Οι γονείς/κηδεμόνες και τα παιδιά τους θα πρέπει να μπουν στο σχολείο από την είσοδο στο Stacey Street. Οι πόρτες θα ανοίξουν στις 1:30μμ. Εκκλησιασμός Α και Β Δημοτικού Ο επόμενος εκκλησιασμός για τους μαθητές της Α και Β Δημοτικού έχει προγραμματιστεί για την Κυριακή 10 Σεπτεμβρίου. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να συναντήσουν τη δασκάλα τους στο χολ της εκκλησίας στις 9:45πμ. Γέννηση Μωρού Συγχαρητήρια στην κα και τον κο Στρατικόπουλο για τη γέννηση του πανέμορφου μωρού τους, Ανάστα Παναγιώτη. Γεννήθηκε την πιο Άγια Μέρα Την Κοίμηση της Θεοτόκου, 15 Αυγούστου. Ευχόμαστε στους γονείς του και το μεγαλύτερο γιο τους, Γιάννη, ό,τι καλύτερο για το καινούριο τους μωρό. Η Γιορτή του Πατέρα Τη Γιορτή του Πατέρα τη γιορτάζουμε την πρώτη Κυριακή του Σεπτεμβρίου για να αναγνωρίσουμε τη μεγάλη συνεισφορά των πατεράδων στη ζωή των παιδιών τους. Page 19
Ελπίζουμε ότι όλοι οι πατεράδες χάρηκαν με τα δωράκια που έφτιαξαν τα παιδιά τους στην τάξη καθώς και αυτά που αγόρασαν από το Περίπτερο για τη Γιορτή του Πατέρα. Δημόσια Ομιλία Ο Διαγωνισμός Δημόσιας Ομιλίας του Κολλεγίου της Αγίας Ευφημίας προχωράει πολύ ωραία. Οι δασκάλες είχαν την ευκαιρία να ακούσουν ποικίλα θέματα και είναι πολύ περήφανες για όλες τις προσπάθειες των μαθητών. Θα επιλεχθούν τρεις μαθητές από κάθε τάξη για να προχωρήσουν στον Ημιτελικό γύρο που θα λάβει χώρα στη διάρκεια της 8ης Εβδομάδας. Ευχόμαστε καλή επιτυχία σε όλους τους μαθητές για τους Τελικούς, στη διάρκεια του επόμενου Τριμήνου. Κύπελλο Σχολικού Διαγωνισμού Μαθηματικών Το Σχολείο μας ανακοινώνει με μεγάλη χαρά την συμμετοχή της Στ Δημοτικού στο διαγωνισμό για το Κύπελλο Μαθηματικών. Με το διαγωνισμό αυτό τα παιδιά ανακαλύπτουν τη χαρά και τις ευχάριστες εμπειρίες που προσφέρουν οι ασκήσεις και τα προβλήματα των Μαθηματικών. Επίσης ο διαγωνισμός αυτός προωθεί την ομαδική εργασία. Οι μαθητές της Στ Δημοτικού που έχουν επιλεχθεί για να αντιπροσωπεύσουν το σχολείο μας θα διαγωνιστούν σε δύο ομάδες των τριών μαθητών. Α Ομάδα: Κωνσταντίνος Μιτσούλης, Ναθαναήλ Σλέιμαν, Νικόλας Σώκος. Β Ομάδα: Ευθύμιος Πάπας, Ελένη Καλαντζή, Ανδριανή Κουτσιόφη. Οι τρείς αφετηρίες του διαγωνισμού είναι: MatChoice, MatOperator και MatRace. Οι μαθητές θα πάρουν μέρος σε διάφορες δραστηριότητες σχετικά με τα Μαθηματικά, και θα έχουν κάποιο συγκεκριμένο χρόνο για να τις διεκπεραιώσουν. Η ομάδα με τους περισσότερους βαθμούς θα προκριθεί στους Τελικούς. Ο διαγωνισμός θα λάβει χώρα την Πέμπτη 7 Σεπτεμβρίου, μεταξύ 9:30πμ 3:30μμ στο Amity College, Prestons. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν την πλήρη χειμερινή τους σχολική στολή, μαζί με το καπέλο τους. Θα πρέπει επίσης να φέρουν μαζί τους πρωινό και μεσημεριανό γεύμα. Ευχόμαστε καλή επιτυχία στους μαθητές και τη δασκάλα του Διαγωνισμού για το Κύπελλο Μαθηματικών, τη δίδα Κολήρη. Co-curricular Clubs-Ομάδες συμπληρωματικών μαθημάτων Το πρόγραμμα ομάδων συμπληρωματικών μαθημάτων θα τελειώσει τη Δευτέρα 11 Σεπτεμβρίου. Υπενθυμίζουμε πως το πρόγραμμα αυτό δε θα συνεχιστεί στη διάρκεια του Δ Τριμήνου. Ευελπιστούμε να συνεχιστεί το πρόγραμμα το Α Τρίμηνο του 2018. Σχολικό Πρόγραμμα Woolworths Earn and Learn Community Program Το πρόγραμμα Woolworths Earn and Learn Community Program θα τελειώσει την Τρίτη 19 Σεπτεμβρίου. Ημέρα των γιαγιάδων και παππούδων Την Παρασκευή 13 Οκτωβρίου, οι τάξεις του Προνήπιου και του Νηπιαγωγείου θα παρουσιάσει την Ημέρα των γιαγιάδων και παππούδων. Προσκαλούμε όλους τους παππούδες και τις γιαγιάδες των μαθητών του Προνήπιου και του Νηπιαγωγείου να παραβρεθούν στις παρουσιάσεις των μαθητών του Νηπιαγωγείου. Τη βραδιά αυτή θα πωλείται φαγητό και αναψυκτικά/χυμοί. Ελάτε να διασκεδάσετε μαζί μας. Επέτειος της 28ης Οκτωβρίου Το Σάββατο 28 Οκτωβρίου γιορτάζουμε την επέτειο της 28ης Οκτωβρίου. Στις 28 Οκτωβρίου 1940, ο Πρωθυπουργός της Ελλάδας, Ιωάννης Μεταξάς, είπε το μεγάλο «Όχι» στον Πρωθυπουργό της Ιταλίας, Μπενίτο Μουσολίνι, που ήθελε να κατακτήσει στρατηγικά σημεία της Ελλάδας. Την ημέρα αυτή θυμόμαστε με υπερηφάνεια τον ηρωισμό όλων των Ελλήνων που θυσιάστηκαν για την Ελλάδα. Την Κυριακή, 29 Οκτωβρίου κάποιοι μαθητές του Δημοτικού Σχολείου θα γιορτάσουν την επέτειο της 28ης Οκτωβρίου με μία σύντομη γιορτή μετά τη Θεία Λειτουργία. Σας ενθαρρύνουμε όλους να εκκλησιαστείτε την ημέρα αυτή. Βραδιά Ταβέρνας Το Σάββατο 11 Νοεμβρίου, ο Σύλλογος Γονέων/Κηδεμόνων και Φίλων οργανώνει μία βραδιά Ταβέρνας. Σημειώσετε την ημερομηνία αυτή. Λήξη Γ τριμήνου Παρασκευή 22 Σεπτεμβρίου Το Γ τρίμηνο ολοκληρώνεται την Παρασκευή 22 Σεπτεμβρίου. Οι μαθητές του Νηπιαγωγείου-Στ Δημοτικού θα λάβουν μέρος στη Θεία Λειτουργία. Αθλητικά Νέα Σπορ- Χρηματικό ποσό εξόδων Μεταφοράς Σας υπενθυμίζουμε πως το ποσό εξόδων μεταφοράς για το σπορ του Γ Τριμήνου, για τους μαθητές της Γ - Στ Δημοτικού, θα πρέπει να πληρωθεί στη δασκάλα της τάξης έως την Παρασκευή 1 Σεπτεμβρίου, 2017. Το κόστος είναι 30 δολάρια. Χειμερινοί Αγώνες PSSA Οι χειμερινοί Αγώνες τελείωσαν. Συγχαρητήρια στην Ποδοσφαιρική Ομάδα Μικρών Αγοριών που προκρίθηκαν στους Ημιτελικούς. Παρόλες τις προσπάθειές τους, νικήθηκαν 3-0. Ευχαριστώ όλους τους προπονητές των ομάδων για την προσπάθειά τους στους αγώνες και στην προπόνηση. Ευελπιστούμε να αρχίσουν οι Καλοκαιρινοί Αγώνες στη διάρκεια της 8ης Εβδομάδας. Αθλητικές Φωτογραφίες Οι αθλητικές φωτογραφίες θα λάβουν χώρα την Παρασκευή 1 Σεπτεμβρίου. Παρακαλώ να βεβαιωθείτε πως οι μαθητές θα έρθουν στο σχολείο φορώντας την αθλητική τους στολή (οι ομάδες του μπάσκετ και του ποδοσφαίρου θα πρέπει επίσης να φοράνε το αθλητικό τους μπλουζάκι). Αθλητικοί Καλοκαιρινοί Αγώνες PSSA Οι θερινοί Αγώνες του PSSA θα αρχίσουν την Τετάρτη 6 Σεπτεμβρίου και την Πέμπτη 7 Σεπτεμβρίου και θα συνεχιστούν την Παρασκευή 8 Σεπτεμβρίου. Οι προπονήσεις έχουν ως εξής: Snr Μπάσκετμπολ Τετάρτη στο προαύλιο του σχολείου από τις 3: 10μμ έως τις 4:15μμ. Jnr Μπάσκετμπολ Πέμπτη στο προαύλιο του σχολείου από τις 3: 10μμ έως τις 4:15μμ. T-Ball, Softball, Cricket Πέμπτη στο Kearns Oval έως τις 4:00μμ. Οι γονείς μπορούν να παίρνουν τα παιδιά τους από το πάρκο στις 4.00μμ. ή από το σχολείο στις 4.15μμ. Υπενθυμίζουμε τους γονείς να παίρνουν τα παιδιά τους αμέσως μετά την προπόνηση και να μην αφήνουν τα αδέρφια των μαθητών μόνα τους κατά τη διάρκεια της προπόνησης. Σας υπενθυμίζουμε τους μαθητές ότι πρέπει να έχουν μαζί τους το καπέλο τους και λενα μπουκάλι νερό στη διάρκεια των προπονήσεων. Αθλητικοί Αγώνες Ελληνορθόδοξων Κολλεγίων Φέτος το Κολλέγιο της Αγίας Ευφημίας θα αναλάβει τη διοργάνωση των Αθλητικών Αγώνων Ελληνορθόδοξων Κολλεγίων που θα λάβει χώρα τη Δευτέρα 11 Σεπτεμβρίου στο Crest Sporting Complex, Bass Hill. Το λεωφορείο αναχωρεί στα 8:20πμ από το σχολείο και οι αγώνες ξεκινούν στις 9:00πμ. Ευχόμαστε καλή επιτυχία στους μαθητές μας. Το κόστος της εκδρομής είναι 40 δολάρια. Παρακαλώ να βάλετε το ποσό αυτό μέσα σε ένα φάκελο όπου θα αναγράφεται το όνομα του παιδιού σας και να το δώσετε στη δασκάλα της τάξης έως την Παρασκευή 1 Σεπτεμβρίου. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να βρίσκονται στο σχολείο μέχρι τις 8:30πμ. Θα αναχωρήσουν από το σχολείο στις 8:45πμ και θα επιστρέψουν στο σχολείο στις 3:10μμ. Εκδρομή Β Δημοτικού Την Παρασκευή 8 Σεπτεμβρίου, οι μαθητές της Β Δημοτικού θα επισκεφθούν το Rouse House & Farm στα πλαίσια της ενότητας της Ιστορίας με τίτλο: «Τώρα και Τότε». Το κόστος της εκδρομής είναι 45 δολάρια. Παρακαλώ να βάλετε το ποσό αυτό μέσα σε ένα φάκελο όπου θα αναγράφεται το όνομα του παιδιού σας και να το δώσετε στη δασκάλα της τάξης έως την Παρασκευή 1 Σεπτεμβρίου. Οι μαθητές θα αναχωρήσουν από το σχολείο στις 8:30πμ ακριβώς και θα επιστρέψουν στις 3:10μμ περίπου. Θα πρέπει να φέρουν μαζί τους, νερό και μεσημεριανό γεύμα (δεν επιτρέπονται οι ξηροί καρποί) και να φορούν τη χειμερινή τους αθλητική στολή μαζί με το καπέλο τους. πραγματοποιηθεί, όπως έχει προγραμματιστεί. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φέρουν μαζί τους αδιάβροχο εάν προβλέπεται βροχή την ημέρα αυτή. Κατασκήνωση Ε Δημοτικού Από την Τετάρτη 13 Σεπτεμβρίου έως την Πέμπτη 14 Σεπτεμβρίου, οι μαθητές της Ε Δημοτικού θα επισκεφθούν τα χρυσορυχεία στο Mogo. Η κατασκήνωση αυτή γίνεται στα πλαίσια των μαθημάτων της μελέτης του περιβάλλοντος (HSIE), σχετικά με την ενότητα του Χρυσού καθώς και στα πλαίσια της ενότητας της φυσικής με τίτλο Προσαρμογές. Οι μαθητές θα φιλοξενηθούν σε αυθεντικά δωμάτια και θα πάρουν μέρος σε διάφορες ξεναγήσεις και άλλες δραστηριότητες. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να φορούν καθημερινά ρούχα την ημέρα της άφιξης αλλά θα πρέπει να φέρουν μαζί τους την πλήρη αθλητική τους στολή. Θα αναχωρήσουν την Τετάρτη 13 Σεπτεμβρίου στις 7:00πμ ακριβώς γι αυτό και θα πρέπει να βρίσκονται στο σχολείο στις 6:45πμ. Θα επιστρέψουν την Πέμπτη 14 Σεπτεμβρίου περίπου στις 6:00μμ. περίπου. Θα πρέπει επίσης να φέρουν μαζί τους πρωινό και μεσημεριανό γεύμα, καθώς κι ένα μπουκάλι νερό για την Τετάρτη καθώς και ένα χρηματικό ποσό μέχρι και 50 δολάρια για φαγητό ή αναμνηστικά. ενότητας της Ιστορίας με τίτλο: Η Αυστραλία ως Έθνος. Το κόστος της εκδρομής είναι 30 δολάρια. Παρακαλώ να πληρώσετε το ποσό αυτό στη δασκάλα της τάξης έως τη Δευτέρα 28 Αυγούστου. Οι μαθητές θα πρέπει να βρίσκονται στο σχολείο μέχρι τις 8:35πμ, και να φορούν την πλήρη χειμερινή τους αθλητική στολή, μαζί με το καπέλο τους. Θα πρέπει επίσης να φέρουν μαζί τους πρωινό και μεσημεριανό γεύμα, καθώς κι ένα μπουκάλι νερό σε ένα μικρό σακίδιο. Σε περίπτωση βροχής η εκδρομή θα ακυρωθεί και θα πραγματοποιηθεί αργότερα. Σημειώνουμε επίσης ότι δε θα επιστραφούν χρήματα διότι θα πρέπει να προπληρωθούν τα εισιτήρια εισόδου. Καθώς δεν επιτρέπονται τα κινητά τηλέφωνα ή άλλες ηλεκτρονικές συσκευές στην κατασκήνωση, οι γονείς μπορούν να τηλεφωνούν στον αριθμό 8230-0246 για να ενημερώνονται σχετικά με την ώρα της επιστροφής των μαθητών από την κατασκήνωση. Στ Δημοτικού Την Τετάρτη 6 Σεπτεμβρίου, οι μαθητές της Στ Δημοτικού θα εξερευνήσουν την ιστορική διαδρομή που απεικονίζει το ξεκίνημα της Αυστραλίας από το Circular Quay μέχρι τα μυστικά δρομάκια, τα κτίρια και τους ιστορικούς χώρους του Rocks. Η εκδρομή θα καταλήξει στο Sydney Observatory Hill, όπου οι μαθητές θα ανακαλύψουν το δημιουργικό τους εαυτό, καθώς θα αγναντεύουν ολόκληρο τον οικισμό του Rocks. ΝΕΑ ΤΟΥ ΓΥΜΝΑΣΙΟΥ Εξετάσεις της Β Λυκείου Τα μαθήματα της Β Λυκείου σχεδόν έχουν τελειώσει και οι μαθητές θα αρχίσουν σύντομα τα μαθήματα της Γ Λυκείου. Οι μαθητές της Β Λυκείου θα έχουν τις τελικές εξετάσεις τους από τη Δευτέρα 4 Σεπτεμβρίου έως την Παρασκευή 8 Σεπτεμβρίου. Ευχόμαστε σε όλους τους μαθητές καλή επιτυχία. Γιορτή του Πατέρα Την Κυριακή, 3 Σεπτεμβρίου, είναι η Γιορτή του Πατέρα. Ευχόμαστε Χρόνια Πολλά σε όλους τους πατέρες. Γιορτή της Αγίας Ευφημίας Το Σάββατο 16 Σεπτεμβρίου, το σχολείο και η ενορία μας τιμούν την μνήμη της Προστάτιδος μας της Αγίας Ευφημίας. Λυκείου την Πέμπτη, 21 Σεπτεμβρίου στις 7.30π.μ. στο Common Room. Επιπλέον, το βράδυ της ίδιας ημέρας θα τελεστεί Δοξολογία στην εκκλησία μας στις 6.30μ.μ. και μετά αποχαιρετιστήριο δείπνο στην αίθουσα του σχολείου μας. Αποχαιρετούμε την Τρίτη Λυκείου 2017 και τους ευχόμαστε καλή επιτυχία στις εξετάσεις και καλή σταδιοδρομία. Τέλος Τριμήνου Το τρίτο τρίμηνο τελειώνει την Παρασκευή 22 Σεπτεμβρίου. Το τέταρτο τρίμηνο θα αρχίσει τη Δευτέρα 9 Οκτωβρίου. Οι μαθητές θα φορέσουν την καλοκαιρινή σχολική στολή τους. Ευχόμαστε στους μαθητές μας να περάσουν ευχάριστα τις διακοπές τους. Την Κυριακή 17 Σεπτεμβρίου, το Κολλέγιο έχει οργανώσει πανηγύρι. Όλες οι οικογένειες είναι ευπρόσδεκτες να απολαύσουν την ημέρα με φαγητό, ελληνικούς χορούς και πολλά άλλα. Θεία Κοινωνία Ο εκκλησιασμός για το τέλος του τριμήνου θα γίνει την Παρασκευή, 15 Σεπτεμβρίου. Όσα παιδιά θα λάβουν την Θεία Κοινωνία πρέπει να προετοιμαστούν κατάλληλα. Αποχαιρετισμός της Γ Λυκείου 2017 Για τους μαθητές της Γ Λυκείου τα μαθήματα τελειώνουν την Πέμπτη, 21 Σεπτεμβρίου 2017. Μετά θα έχουν τρεις εβδομάδες να προετοιμαστούν για τις τελικές εξετάσεις του HSC. Θα είναι μια συγκινητική μέρα, διότι πολλοί από τους μαθητές μας έχουν δεκατρία χρόνια στο σχολείο.
