FUND RAISING FOR THE SAINT NICHOLAS NATIONAL SHRINE DECEMBER 6, THE FEAST OF ST. NICHOLAS, SPONSORED BY THE LADIES PHILOPTOCHOS SOCIETY His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios issued an encyclical on April 18, 2014, regarding the rebuilding of St. Nicholas at Ground Zero. In his letter he requested a commitment from each person to raise the necessary funds to assist with the rebuilding of St. Nicholas, the only church destroyed at Ground Zero. At the ground blessing that took place in October 2014, stones were laid in the shape of the twin towers to remember those who died that fateful day and also to affirm a sacred presence. There was no ground breaking at that solemn service. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spent tens of millions of dollars to construct the platform to serve as the foundation for the new St. Nicholas Church in the months that followed. LEFT: Icon of Saint Nicholas, CENTER: Saint Nicholas, RIGHT: His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios and Archdeacons at the Ground Blessing in 2014 The Ladies Philoptochos members accepted this challenge and have made individual and chapter pledges. The members invite the Holy Trinity family to join them in a holy and loving tribute to St. Nicholas on his feast day, Sunday, December 6, by offering a donation toward the St. Nicholas National Shrine Project. Philoptochos also issues a special invitation to all communicants named for St. Nicholas to show their support by serving as honorary ushers and by passing a special tray that Sunday. Each of us is called upon to be a builder through prayer, through giving of our resources, and through believing that this national shrine will achieve its divine purpose as a house of prayer for all people. Philoptochos sincerely thanks you for your generous support for this and all its projects.

Resurrectional Apolytikion Tone 1 The stone had been secured with a seal by the Judeans, and a guard of soldiers was watching Your immaculate body. You rose on the third day, O Lord and Savior, granting life unto the world. For this reason were the powers of heaven crying out to You, O Life-giver: Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ; glory to Your eternal rule; glory to Your dispensation, only One who loves mankind. Apolytikion of the Holy Trinity Plagal Tone 4 Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who made fishermen all-wise, sending upon them the Holy Spirit and, through them, netting the world. O Loving One, glory to You. Kontakion Tone 3 On this day the Virgin cometh to the cave to give birth to God the Word ineffably, Who was before all the ages. Dance for joy, O earth, on hearing the gladsome tidings; with the Angels and the shepherds now glorify Him Who is willing to be gazed on as a young Child Who before the ages is God.
THE EPISTLE Ephesians 5:8-19 Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret; but when anything is exposed by the light it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it is said, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light." Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart. THE GOSPEL Luke 18:18-27 At that time, a ruler came to Jesus and asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.' " And he said, "All these I have observed from my youth." And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich. Jesus looking at him said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?" But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."
