Μετά φόβου Θεού, αγάπης, πίστεως και With fear of God, love, faith and responsibility I enter into the vineyard of the Lord in Piscataway, where you labored and continue successfully to work with love and dedication. I enter into these holy grounds with great respect, having in mind that my predecessors worked hard to sustain and develop this community and brought it to this remarkable level. I take very seriously and conscientiously the responsibility that I was given to pastor this holy flock of our holy Metropolis to the ways of the Lord. I understand that the Cross I carry is heavy. I believe that on my way I will find many co-carriers of this Cross of responsibility. With all my humanly possible strength and my pastoral experience I will try to help this great in honor and numbers community in its growth and ecclesiastical life. As long as I will have the cooperation of the Parish Council and of all the Parishioners, all the programs will continue to develop. Please accept me as your own and we will grow together in Christ. Priority of my mission, in addition to my clerical duties, will be our beloved youth. The youth is the jewel of our community and I greet them with friendly and sincere greetings. Piscataway s youth achievements are world renown. His All Holiness Bartholomeos talks about your dancing group and gives you as an example to all the communities He visits around the world. You have stolen His heart. You impressed Him a lot, as you impress with your professional performance everyone who sees you dancing. We know very well that it is not only dancing, you are also involved successfully in other activities like Project Mexico, and others. God Bless you.

June Page 5 President s Message On behalf of the Parish Council I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new spiritual father, the V. Reverend Archimandrite Alexander Kile. I look forward to working with Father Alex and am confident that he will guide us with love, cooperation, devotion, and his faith in Christ. Please embrace him with love and respect and rest assure that the spiritual, philanthropic, cultural, educational and entire ministry of our parish will be cultivated. Please be informed that Father John Theodosion, upon his request, has been reassigned to another parish. Father John gave us nine years of spiritual guidance, and, on behalf of the Parish Council, we are very appreciative of the work he has done at our parish. Father John, you will be greatly missed! I personally would like to thank Father John for his guidance and cooperation during my years on the Board. We wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors, and many years of success in his new parish. Father John will always have a special place in the heart of St. George community. Plans are underway for a celebration of Father Kile s arrival and to say farewell to Father John. A reception is being planned to which the entire community will be invited to attend. Also, a special thank you to Mr. Dimitri Kavrakos, from the New York Metropolitan Opera, for taking the time and honoring us with his presence. Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank Parents Teachers Organization and all the parents who worked so hard to put this event together.

June Page 7 THE TWELVE HOLY APOSTLES OF OUR LORD JESUS Our Lord during His earthly mission chose these simple men to preach His Word to the world. He prepared them to take over this difficult mission; He gave them detailed directions on how to talk and how to behave amongst people. He also prepared them for the most difficult tasks of their mission. He told them: Listen, I am sending you out just like sheep to a pack of wolves. You must be as cautious as snakes and as gentle as doves. (Mat.10: 16). Indeed, the twelve Holy Apostles, humble and simple as sheep, went to all nations. Their words and their preaching were peaceful, as Christ was the King of Peace. They preached about the Kingdom of God, that He promised to all of us, and about His Church on earth, that is His Kingdom on earth. They did not possess anything except the Word of God. In order to accomplish this difficult but holy mission, some of them even left their families. They did not hold any titles or degrees; most of them were simple fishermen from Galilee. What were they facing at their first apostolic missionary work? Exiles, threats of torture, torture, jail, and even death. If we read the first chapters of the Acts of the Apostles, we will be shocked at how inhumanely most of them were treated and tortured by the rulers of the first century. It is also amazing how calm they remained during all the insults and persecutions. This peaceful behavior made the rulers even more furious. They would kill them just out of anger, as in the case Saint James, the brother of John, who was killed with a sword by Herod. The book of the Acts of the Apostles clearly mentions this event in Chapter 12, verse 2. The same ruler jailed Saint Peter but the Apostle was freed through the miraculous intervention of God. What can be said about how the idol-worshipping nations received the Apostles, when even their own people, the Jews, chased them and threatened to kill them? Most of the Apostles ended their lives with martyrdom, after being tortured and thrown to prison. All this martyrdom was concluded with the fall of the idol-worshipping Roman Empire and the rising of the Christian Roman Empire. Everywhere in the world, in the North and in the South, in the East and in the West, on the mountains and on the islands, the name of Jesus Christ was proclaimed and worshipped. On the sites of Temples to the Gods of Olympus, real Temples to the glory of the Triune God started to be erected. These were the results of the seeds that the Holy Apostles, who were filled with the Grace of the Holy Spirit, planted and cultivated; often, they paid for this with their lives. The question one asks is: "How did the lambs conquer the wolves?" The answer is that they accomplished their great mission with complete personal denial. The Lord told them: Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul (Mat.10:28). He also assured them: If they obey my teaching, they will obey yours, too. With this kind of faith they performed their Holy Mission and they came out victorious because they were sent by God and were empowered with the Holy Spirit. We are talking about twelve Apostles. Do we know who they are, where did they teach and how their life ended? According to the scriptures and the Ancient tradition of the Orthodox Church there are other people who are called Apostles too, but the following are recognized as His 12 Apostles: The first Apostle is Peter. He preached first in Judea and Antioch, later in Pontus (Black Sea), Galatia and Cappadocia (areas of Asia Minor). Much later he preached in Asia and Bithynia, and finally in Rome. There, the Roman Emperor Nero crucified St Peter head down, on the Hills of the Vatican, because through faith, together with St Paul they conquered Simon, the famous magician of the Emperor. The second Apostle is Paul. He preached from Jerusalem to Illyria, the West Coast of Greece, Albania and former Serbia. He made four trips to Asia Minor and Greece (to Northern, Central and Southern Greece, including the big cities of Thessaloniki, Athens and Corinth) and ended up in Rome. Paul was beheaded by Nero the Emperor on the same day that Peter was crucified. The third Apostle is Saint Andrew, the first-called (Protocletos) by our Lord to His mission. He preached all across the shores of the Black Sea. He brought Christianity to Byzantium, later called Constantinople, and to Greece. He was crucified in Patras, on an X-shaped cross, by the governor Aigeates. James of Zebedee is the fourth Apostle. He preached all over Judea and was stabbed to death by the governor Herod Agrippa. Page 10 On behalf of the St. George Greek Orthodox Festival Committee, we would like to thank all of the people who contributed their time and financial support to the 31 st Annual Festival. The success of this church event is a reflection of the dedication and team work this community strives for, in an effort to support the church and to share the Greek culture, traditions, hospitality and religion which we are so proud of. We were very fortunate to have beautiful weather for this year's Festival and in return, we had the highest turn out of visitors during the three day event. Upon completion of the Festival, we were able to reach for the second year in a row a new highest cash sales of approximately $168,000. We believe that our final number will be in the neighborhood of $180,000 to $185,000 for total sales. A final financial report will be provided The Voice of Saint Page George 10 during our semi-annual general assembly meeting in the fall. Our recent financial success has not been a result of higher prices, but rather of being more efficient by making improvements to decrease lines and sell more products to our visitors. We will continue to monitor the process year in and year out. We have also seen our costs increase, thus we need to keep sales and costs in line to provide us a maximum net profit each year. I would like to thank everyone who provided a strong effort and volunteered their time and services during the festival. This is an opportunity for our members to show their stewardship towards the church. I can not thank everyone individually in this letter, but I would like to take the time to acknowledge all the departments that worked hard for three days: Admissions, Bar, Dining Room, Kitchen/Salad Prep/Tiropetes, Gyros, Souvlakia, Food Procurement, Gift Shop, Raffle, Bakery/Loukoumades, Church Tours, Cashiers/Take-Out, Treasury, T-Shirts, and Youth Activities. With all of the success we had this year, we also had many challenges and difficulties to endure. We need to understand that the Festival is not just a 3-day event. We need everyone s help before and after the festival to organize and complete the necessary activities. This year we had very little help prior to and after the festival. This was personally very stressful and a challenge to manage. We need only a few hours of your time. Please do not assume that the next person will be there to help. Please support the festival this year and in the years to come. As with every year, no help is ever turned away. Let us set an example for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. A post-festival meeting will be held on Thursday, June 3 rd. The meeting will consist of reports from the various departments and a think tank discussion seeking improvements for future festivals. Every year we learn from our experiences in an effort to improve our festival. Once again, on behalf of the Festival Committee, we would like to thank everyone for their support during this year's festival and for making this a successful event. God Bless, John Lyssikatos 2004 Festival Chairman

June Page 11 (Continued from Page 7) The fifth Apostle is John the Evangelist and Theologian (author of the Gospel), brother of James of Zebedee. He preached the gospel in Asia Minor and in Asia. He was exiled in Patmos where he was inspired by God to write the Last book of the New Testament, the Revelation. He returned to Ephesus and passed away in very old age. The sixth Apostle is Philip, from Bethesda of Galilee. He preached in Asia and Ierapolis together with his sister Marianna and Bartholomew. The Greeks in Ierapolis killed him by crucifixion. The seventh Apostle is Thomas, also known as the twin (Didymos). He preached Christ to the Parthians, Medians, Persians and to India. Saint Thomas martyred in India. Bartholomew is the eighth Apostle. He preached the gospel to the Indians called Eudemones. He was crucified and died in Ourvanoupolis, today s Azerbeycan, in Central Asia. The ninth Apostle is Matthew, the Levite, brother of James of Alfeus. Matthew was the tax collector who became an Evangelist. He preached in Ierapolis, Syria and was killed by stoning. James of Alpheus is the tenth Apostle. He preached to many nations and he also died by crucifixion. Simon the Zealot was from Canaa of Galilee. He is the eleventh Apostle, who preached all over Mauritania and countries of Africa. He died by crucifixion. The twelfth Apostle is Judas Thaddaeus. He preached the Gospel in Mesopotamia. He was killed by hanging, by an atheist in Ararat, near today s city of Van. May glory be to their Names and to Our Lord and Their Lord Jesus Christ! Written by V. Rev. Alexander Kile

Page 12 Five members PROJECT MEXICO of our parish, four youth members and one adult, will be traveling this summer to Tijuana, Mexico to St. Innocence Orphanage to work on Project Mexico. Project Mexico, an Orthodox charity, has two goals. First, is the desire to share Christ s love for us all by reaching out to those in need. Next, is to provide opportunities for our young people and adults to do the work of Christ. Orthodox Christians from all over the world have found it to be a life-changing experience, a chance to deepen their commitment to God and an opportunity to serve others by providing a very poor Mexican family a home in place of their dirt-floor shack. All or us can participate in the work of Project Mexico in a number of ways. First and foremost, they need our ongoing prayer for God s guidance and protection, that He will continue to open the hearts of our young people. We can also participate by supporting Project Mexico financially. Our young people who will be part of this important mission will require sponsorship. They will travel to Mexico for six days where they will construct a two-room home for a family in need. Each participant will need to raise approximately $1,000.00 to cover travel expenses, food and lodging at the Orphanages, and the cost of the supplies and materials needed for the work project. During their stay in Mexico, they will be staying at the campgrounds of St Innocence Orphanage, which will give them the opportunity to work with the young boys who live there. Voice of St. George The participants of this important mission need both your spiritual and financial support. The youth of St. George is committed to help raise the money needed by planning the following special events: Church wide sponsorship program - Donations can be made payable to St. George Youth Lollipop Sale Taverna Night on June 4, 2004 at 7:30 pm That night there will be a special presentation by the Youth of St. George to Father John Theodosion. Everyone is invited to attend, especially all the past and present youth members and their families. Reservations can be made by calling Diane Parais at 732-422-7859. Car Wash on June 12, 2004 at 12 noon in the church parking lot. Youth members will be selling tickets every Sunday after church. Walkathon on June 19, 2004 at 10:00 am - Spring Lake Park in South Plainfield, NJ Your help and support will be greatly appreciated to assure that these young adults can reach their goal and proudly represent St. George in this valuable and worthwhile mission. The youth would like to humbly thank all those who have already made a donation. May God bless you all and especially our brave and selfless participants as they gain a deeper understanding of their Orthodox faith by reaching out to those in need. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare for this important and life-changing experience. Additional information about Project Mexico and St. Innocence Orphanage can be found on their web-site, www.projectmexico.org. Dear Parishioners, Summer is here and many of you will be visiting Greece this summer. I would like to ask you a favor, which will benefit you also. Before returning from Greece, please try to buy one or two bottles of Holy Communion wine called NAMA of ROUSSOS products 11% or 12.5% Alcohol. The Label is white with black stripes. Your assistance in this task would be appreciated. This wine is not sold in the US wine market. On the label, is also written, that it is " ekklesiastikos inos" church wine. It can be purchased at the local liquor store" inopolia" or " bakalika- pantopolia". If you are unable to bring back a bottle or two of NAMA of Roussos, please bring us pure incense with the aroma of rose or gardenia or kyparissi. In Greece, it is pure and also less expensive. Thank you for your help. Enjoy your trip, stay and vacation. We will miss you. See you back in September. With much love, Fr. Alex

Our church celebrated its holiday with Vesper Services the evening of April 22 and Liturgy on April 23. The holiday was co-celebrated by Metropolitan Evangelos and seven priests, with parishioners from Union, Perth Amboy, Tom s River and Randolph joining our community. Both, the Vespers and Liturgy services, were followed with a coffee hour beautifully prepared by our Philoptochos members. Pres. Andronikou thanked all the ladies who assisted, and in particular, chairmen Anna Kalogridis and Evangelia Manolakis, for their efforts which made the St. George Vespers and Liturgy coffee hours such a success. Following our May meeting, Pres. Andronikou, on behalf of all the ladies of the Philoptochos, welcomed Fr. Alexander Kile as spiritual Father to our community. Fr. June Page 17 PTO Happenings Well, here we are in the final stretch of the 2003-04 school year. To complete this year we would like to thank our current Board Members for all their efforts in managing the functions that are held for the children. There are many tasks and details that go on behind the scenes for each event that we need to thank Board Members and parents/volunteers that work together to accomplish the success. The coordination is extremely important and it shows in the outcome. It is also a wonderful way to be a part of the Church Community. On behalf of our current Board we would like to welcome our New PTO Board Members: Dorothy Koutsoras President Evie Georgopoulos Vice President Kathy Catanzaro Corresponding Secretary Sophia Exarchakis Recording Secretary Maggie Stavrianidis Treasurer We wish all of you a wonderful and successful term. As we enjoy the many activities and celebrations that lead to the end of another school year, let us take some time to reflect not only on what we have accomplished this year, but also on what we have started and not yet accomplished. It was once said we must remember that it is better to begin a great work than to finish a small one. I pray that we all may find the courage and energy to accomplish the great works in our lives. God Bless and have a wonderful Summer PTO Board President, Christina Milano Vice President, Dorothy Koutsoras Secretary, Maria Boyadjis Treasurer, Helen Giannos Corresponding Secretary Eleni Banis Νέα του Συλλόγου Γονέων και ιδασκάλων Φτάσαµε και φέτος στο τέλος της σχολικής χρονιάς!
