Parents, please stay with young children. After the kneeling, teachers and parents of small children will quietly escort the students to the front of the church to chant Eis Agios and Enite. They will remain there for Holy Communion. Subsequently, in lieu of Sunday School classes, they will file out with their teachers and go into the Coffee Room, where Maggie Maag will conduct a tour of the archives exhibition. This is a special opportunity for the children to shine. Thank you to all the families for supporting this program and encouraging the children to learn our beautiful church hymns. A Note from Father George Wilson Congratulations on such a beautiful celebration weekend! We are especially grateful to our beloved Hierarchs, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, and His Eminence Metropolitan Tarasios of Buenos Aires. We welcome our former Proistamenoi and their Presbyteras, our distinguished Vicars, and the visiting Clergy, who helped us commemorate this milestone event in our Spiritual home. Thanks to all, who have been involved in this 150th Anniversary celebration, and there are many. The committee was assembled over a year ago, and events have been taking place since the Cross Retrieval from the Bayou at Epiphany. Special thanks to our chair people Barbara Stavis Wolf and Costa Vennis for their direction and organization. Ultimately, an event of this scale is not possible without the help of all of our Holy Trinity Cathedral Family. Thank you so much, and may God grant you many (more) years!. ARCHIVES EXHIBITION The 150 th Anniversary Holy Trinity Archives Exhibition will be open in the Hellenic Cultural Center today, Sunday, October 12, following the Commemorative Banquet. The Archives Committee is exhibiting significant liturgical artifacts, rare books, and icons using museum display cases and panels loaned by the Historic New Orleans Collection. Large professional quality visual reproductions of our historic photos complete this special exhibition.

PHILOPTOCHOS SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON The feast day of St. Iakovos is commemorated on October 23, and on that day Father George Wilson will celebrate Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am in honor of Archbishop Iakovos (1911-2005). Afterward, seniors are invited to attend the Senior Citizens Luncheon at 11:30 am in the Coffee Room, which Bella Bouton is sponsoring in honor of Mary Castrinos Giannopoulos, Gela Kleamenakis Pembo, and Pauline Castrinos Caridas. Mark the date on your calendar and make plans to attend. See you on October 23. FOOD DRIVE Philoptochos is happy to announce that its community-wide food drive has begun. ALL parishioners, ministries, and organizations (for example Sunday School, Greek School, GOYA, Choir, PTA, etc.) within the community are encouraged to participate in this effort. The statistics on hunger are staggering. Philoptochos humbly asks that you bring non-perishable food donations to church on a regular basis and leave them in the basket located in the foyer. Each month Philoptochos will collect the food items and distribute them to the needy families within our community. Below is a list of suggested items, which are always needed rice, instant mashed potatoes, tomato soup, pasta and pasta sauce, jelly, canned tuna and canned chicken, smooth peanut butter, juice boxes, cake mix, frosting, and canned beef stew, chili, and baked beans. This drive will continue year-round, and you are urged to do what you can. Look for Philoptochos information and events in the coming months that will focus on the problem of hunger and how we as a community can help to alleviate it. Thank you for your generosity! PHILOPTOCHOS MEETING The next Philoptochos meeting will be held on Saturday, October 25. Philoptochos members are asked to support the next charity project, "No-Sew" Fleece Blankets, by purchasing two (2) yards of fleece and bringing the material to the October meeting. Members will begin making the blankets in November. ACTIVE MILITARY In early 2015 Philoptochos will sponsor a project in honor of our local church community family members, who currently serve in the armed forces. If you, or someone in your family, are serving in active duty, please provide Viki Moustoukas (vmoustouka@aol.com) with the military personnel s name and email address. BILOXI CHURCH CONSECRATION Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Biloxi, Mississippi, will be consecrated on Saturday, November 15, 2014. The Holy Trinity Cathedral family is invited to attend the slate of events, which begin on Friday, November 14, at 5:30 pm with Great Vespers, followed by a reception; Orthros at 8:00 am, the Consecration Liturgy at 9:00 am, and the Celebration Luncheon at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 15; and Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am, followed by a complimentary lunch on Sunday, November 16. For details on this special weekend, please contact George Yurchak georgeyurchak@yahoo.com or 228.831.5820. HOLY TRINITY GREEK LANGUAGE SCHOOL IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM FAY KALERGI, DIRECTOR OF GREEK LANGUAGE PROGRAM Holy Trinity Greek School will operate as an examination center for the Greek Regents Exams in June 2015. The Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek was developed by the Archdiocese of America, and successful candidates are able to earn not only a prestigious Advanced Language Diploma but also college credits. Success in the exams equals to three (3) credits in foreign language studies and provides strong evidence of language proficiency for those seeking scholarships provided by AHEPA or Fulbright. High school students, whose families are members of the Greek Community, may take a placement test and see whether they can sit for the exams in June 2015. Otherwise, they are strongly advised to join the relevant language program, which starts in October 2014. Dates and time slots for the exam oriented classes will be announced soon. If you are interested, please provide the Cathedral office your name and contact information. HOLY TRINITY FOUNDER NICHOLAS M. BENACHI In 1864, Nicholas M. Benachi, a businessman from Greece and Consul of Greece, offered his home in New Orleans as a temporary location for worship for Greeks and other Orthodox Christians in New Orleans. His gesture provided a means for these individuals to maintain their faith and culture. It also marked the beginning of the Holy Trinity Community. Initially, the members met at various locations and eventually formed a committee to raise funds for the building of a church. Through the efforts of Benachi and other businessmen Demetrios Botassi, Constantine Killili, and Michael Draskovich Holy Trinity became the first Greek Orthodox church successfully formed in all of North and South America. The property at 1222 North Dorgenois Street was later purchased, and Holy Trinity Church remained there until 1976. The Benachi House, located at 2257 Bayou Road, is still toured today by many visitors to New Orleans. The 150 th Anniversary Committee is thrilled that three (3) great grandsons of Nicholas M. Benachi and two (2) of his great-great grandchildren attended events during the 150 th Anniversary Celebration. They were formally introduced at the Premiere Night Dinner on Saturday, October 11, at Metairie Country Club. The Waldo brothers are the children of Anna Helene Benachi, granddaughter of Nicholas M. Benachi, who married Kenneth Clayton Waldo, Sr. and lived in North Carolina. The Holy Trinity Cathedral family welcomes the descendants of Nicholas M. Benachi to New Orleans and Holy Trinity, along with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios, His Eminence Metropolitan Tarasios, and other visiting clergy. HOPE & JOY IN OCTOBER HOPE & JOY members will meet next Sunday, October 19, to work on two special projects making icons and preparing school kits. Lunch will be provided for the children.

Resurrectional Apolytikion Tone 1 The stone had been secured with a seal by the Judeans, and a guard of soldiers was watching Your immaculate body. You rose on the third day, O Lord and Savior, granting life unto the world. For this reason were the powers of heaven crying out to You, O Life-giver: Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ; glory to Your eternal rule; glory to Your dispensation, only One who loves mankind. Apolytikion of the Holy Fathers Plagal Tone 4 You are greatly glorified, O Christ our God, who established our Fathers as luminaries upon the earth, and through them led us all to the true Faith. O Most compassionate, glory to You. THE EPISTLE Titus 3:8-15 Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them. God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel. TITUS, my son, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned. When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful. All who are with me send greeting to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen. THE GOSPEL Luke 8:5-15 The Lord said this parable: "A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded a hundredfold." And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved. And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with patience." As he said these things, he cried out "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
