There is a table in the gymnasium, where you may make your contribution. In advance, we thank you for your support. ANGEL TREE Once again, the Philoptochos Society is accepting donations for Angel Tree, a project benefiting special families within our Cathedral Community. Holy Trinity PTA, Hope and Joy, and GOYA also participate by decorating the tree and making the ornaments. Please stop by, select an ornament, and fulfill someone's Christmas wish. Ornaments may be picked up in the Coffee Room on Sunday December 7 and 14. All gifts are due back on December 21. Contact Diana Peterson at dnmpeterson@gmail with any questions. PHILOPTOCHOS SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON Seniors are invited to the Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at 11:30 am to be held in the Coffee Room of the Hellenic Cultural Center. Evangelia Bilalis is our chef, and she is planning a delicious meal. This will be very special event so mark your calendar and plan to attend. REGULAR MEETING The next Philoptochos meeting will be held on November 22 at 10:30 am in the Coffee Room. All ladies are invited to attend. We shall have a short meeting, and afterward Diane Chronis will lead us in our next charity project, "No-Sew Fleece Blankets." Please bring a sharp scissors for the workshop. We shall also stuff small pillows for children in the hospital. Join Philoptochos now. Your help is needed for these very worthy projects. ARCHIVES CHRISTMAS BAZAAR NEXT SUNDAY The Archives Committee will sell reproductions of the 1872 historic icons, icon note cards, and other treasures next Sunday. These unique items make perfect gifts for the upcoming holidays! Proceeds help with conservation costs to restore our historic artifacts. Don t miss the bazaar on NOVEMBER 23.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT SONG PRACTICE Sunday School students are rehearsing Christmas songs for the Annual Christmas Pageant, which is slated for Sunday, December 21. One or two Christmas songs are introduced after Youth Hymnology each Sunday until December 14, except for Sunday, November 30. Regular attendance is essential to the success of this endeavor, and parents are asked to make sure that their child(ren) attends so that he/she may be a part of this beautiful tradition of our community. Also, in order to participate in a costumed role, children must attend no fewer than three (3) Sunday School classes from now through December 7. If you have any questions, contact Christmas Pageant Coordinator Christina Kogos at cmkogos2@aol.com. The community looks forward to having all of the children participate! DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE The regular membership meeting is today in the Hellenic Cultural Center immediately following church services. Debbie Funti, Maria Popa, and Magda Pelias will be hostesses. At the meeting an Avon Products demonstration and charity fundraiser will be hosted by Rania Mantikos. Please plan to attend. PASTRY SALE Forms for the Daughters of Penelope Pastry Sale are due by November 18. Please turn in pastry order forms to assure getting your pastries for the holidays. Thank you to everyone helping with the workshops this past week. Next workshop dates have been changed to December 2, 3, and 4. DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE FOUNDED 85 YEARS AGO On November 16, 1929, the Daughters of Penelope were founded when 25 members of the Greek Community in San Francisco, under the leadership of Alexandra Apostolides, met to form an organization to provide opportunities for women, to help others in their communities, to work to become better citizens, and to help the members of their local AHEPA Chapter with their programs. The organization has grown to nearly 20,000 members in chapters all across the United States, Canada, Greece, and Europe. The Daughters of Penelope members work to promote Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, and family and individual excellence. Today, the New Orleans Daughters Chapter joins in celebrating Founder's Day. HOPE & JOY NOVEMBER PROJECTS After Greek School today, HOPE & JOY members will be busy in the gymnasium with several projects that Director Vicki McCallef has organized Operation School Kits, Operation Support the Troops, and a wooden nativity icon craft. A Lenten buffet will be served to sustain the young workers and their parents during a fun and most productive afternoon. INDEPENDENCE OF CHIOS RECEPTION To commemorate the Independence of Chios, the Order of St. Markella is hosting a reception after Divine Liturgy today, Sunday, November 16. The entire community is invited for refreshments in the gymnasium. NEW CATHEDRAL DIRECTORY Many changes have occurred since the last Holy Trinity Cathedral parish directory was published in 2009. It is definitely time to update the contact information for members of the community. For this reason, Lifetouch was engaged to take photographs of Holy Trinity parishioners and to compile a directory with the information that will be gathered during the coming month. Photography sessions are scheduled in the Hellenic Cultural Center on the following days: Thursday, November 20-2:00 pm to 8:30 pm Friday, November 21-2:00 pm to 8:30 pm Saturday, November 22-10:00 am to 5:00 pm Individuals/families, who participate, will receive a FREE 8 x 10 and a FREE directory. There is no charge for the session, and no purchase is required. However, the option to buy packages or photographs a la carte will be available. Individuals/families not participating in this endeavor will NOT receive a directory. If you are unavailable for these scheduled photography sessions, you may submit a photograph for a fee of $10. This will entitle the individual/family to a directory when it is published. Please note that Saturday, November 22, is completely booked. However, slots are still available for Thursday, November 20, and Friday, November 21. Take time to participate in this project by making an appointment with Vickie Catsulis today in the gymnasium or register online at www.appt.lifetouch.com.

Frequently, there was applause when he came to a particularly meaningful point, and other times laughter echoed off the Cathedral walls. He wrote much of his work being inspired by Saint Paul as he would place an icon of Saint Paul across from him as he crafted his sermons. In his early life, he was raised by a widowed mother, educated in some of the finest schools of his time. He became a hermit-monk for a time, and then, after falling into ill health because of the rigors of the solitary life, he returned to the civilization of Antioch and its environs. Later, John was ordained a deacon, eventually priest where his abilities as an exceptional orator and preacher became well known. Because of his service to the Church he was elevated to the office of Bishop, although as an example of true humility, he opposed this. He spoke the truth of God, explaining Scripture and championing the plight of the poor working citizen of the Byzantine Roman Empire, teaching of the evils of a ruling class that lived in opulence beyond imagination. His truthful portrayal of the wealthy rulers angered the royalty, and he was exiled from Constantinople. Saint John was so beloved and revered by the Christian communities that he was nicknamed the Golden Mouth (Chrysostomos). We celebrated a Divine Liturgy in honor and in the memory of Saint John on his feast-day, Thursday, November 13. 2015 EPIPHANY CROSS RETRIEVAL Plans for the 2015 Epiphany Dove Release, Cross Retrieval, and Community Celebration Luncheon are well underway with the next meeting slated Thursday, November 20, at 7:00 pm in the boardroom. If you are already on a committee or would like to be, please plan on attending this important session. This major event is only seven (7) weeks away Sunday, January 11, 2015 and there is still much work to be done. For questions, please contact either event co-chairmen Nick Chronis 504-914-2580 or Costas Vennis 504-261-7107. GOYA COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS CARDS Enclosed is the 2014 Annual Community Christmas Card form. This GOYA sponsored fundraiser offers parishioners the opportunity to share Christmas greetings in a communal card. Proceeds will be used for various spiritual, service, social, and athletic activities. To be included, simply visit the GOYA table in the gymnasium after church services to drop off your completed form or mail it to the Cathedral office with your check for $20 made payable to HOLY TRINITY GOYA. THE EPISTLE Romans 10:11-21; 11:1-2 BRETHREN, the scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him. For, "every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved." But how are men to call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? And how can men preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news!" But they have not all obeyed the gospel; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?" So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ. But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have; for "Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world." Again I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, "I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry." Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, "I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me." But of Israel he says, "All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people." I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. THE GOSPEL Matthew 9:9-13 At that time, as Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him. And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" But when he heard it, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."
