Sunday, November 2, 2014 Hymns Following the Gospel (Small Entrance) Apolytikion When the women Disciples of the Lord had learned from the Angel the joyful message of the Resurrection and had rejected the ancestral decision, they cried aloud to the Apostles triumphantly: Death has been despoiled, Christ God has risen, granting His great mercy to the world. Apolytikion Blessed is the earth that drank your blood, O prizewinners of the Lord, and holy are the tabernacles that received your spirit; for in the stadium ye triumphed over the enemy, and ye proclaimed Christ with boldness. Beseech Him, we pray, since He is good, to save our souls. St. Vasilios Your message was carried throughout the world. As it received your mighty word, By which you divinely made manifest And clarified the nature of existing things You set in order the customs of men, You who are royal priesthood! Holy Father, intercede with Christ our God To grant us His great mercy. Kontakion O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee. DELPHI RAFFLE The Parish is again sponsoring the Delphi Raffle. This is a limited ticket/high prize raffle. There are only 100 tickets sold and the prize is $5,000.00!! Prokeimenon. Mode 4. Psalm 103.24,1 O Lord, how manifold are your works. You have made all things in wisdom. Verse: Bless the Lord, O my soul. St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 2:16-20 On Sunday, November 9, 2014 the St. Val s Men s Club will be sponsoring a memorial service in the church at the end of the Divine Liturgy in memory of all of their departed members. After the Divine Liturgy all members of the community are invited to go outside and join the Honor Guard honoring the memories of the veterans that have served our country and have entered into eternal rest. BRETHREN, you know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. REMINDER We would like to remind you that on Sunday, November 2, 2014 we celebrate the feast of St. Cosmas and Damian, patrons of the Philoptochos. At the first liturgy that Sunday, the Philoptochos will sponsor a bread blessing service for the health of the members of our parish, At the second Liturgy it will sponsor a memorial service for its deceased members, at which all of the more than 350 members of blessed memory will be individually commemorated by name. The Koliva Tray will be sponsored by the Kougianos and Andrinopoulos Families. 5th Sunday of Luke The Gospel of Luke 16:19-31 The Lord said, "There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazaros, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazaros in his bosom. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazaros to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazaros in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' But Abraham said, 'They have Moses, and the prophets; let them hear them.' And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if some one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' He said to them, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.'"

PLEASE PRAY FOR: Bill, Deacon Michael, Nicholas, James, Kassandra, Francine, Persephone, Robert, Donna, Alex, Frank, Victoria, Jimmy, Nina, John, Matthew, Eva, Eleni, Christine, Stephen, Ariana, Michael. If you wish to add or remove a name from the list, please call the Church Office. CEMETERY VISITS: Due to the number of sacraments, 40 day blessings and memorials on Sundays it is difficult to make cemetery visits on Sundays after liturgy. If you would like a Trisagion at the graveside during the week you are kindly asked to make an appointment by calling the church office. HOSPITAL VISITS Due to HIPAA privacy rules, hospitals no longer provide a list of Orthodox patients to us. Therefore, if you or a loved one are, or will be, in the hospital, please contact the church office for a pastoral visit. Also, please notify the office if a friend or family member is in a rehab center, nursing home, assisted living facility or under hospice care. WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS! Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church and may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Sadly, the divisions in the church prompt us all to work towards reunited Christianity. The culmination of this reunion will be the ability of all Christians to receive the Eucharist together. Until that blessed day arrives, only Orthodox Christians who are in good sacramental order are permitted to receive Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church. If you have any questions or concerns please speak with Father Chris. MEMORIALS: We commemorate today the blessed memory of the following Member of our parish who has fallen asleep in the Lord: 1 yr. A Call for Parish Council Members St. Vasilios Church needs dedicated men and women who place their love for Christ and the needs of the Parish as key priorities in their lives. A healthy spiritual life should be the norm not just of Council Members, but of all Orthodox Christians. By fully realizing the importance of the service offered by members of the Parish Council, official representatives of St. Vasilios, a person assumes a position that demands love, fidelity and dedication to the Holy Orthodox Church and will make every effort to exemplify its sacred character and spirit. If you share these priorities, it is the church s hope and prayer that you would submit your name as a candidate for the Parish Council no later than Friday, November 7, 2014. Elections will be held on Sunday December 14, 2014. If you are willing to be a candidate for election to the Parish Council, you must attend a Parish Council Candidate Seminar, to be held at St Vasilios at a time convenient to the candidates. This year we are also asking for a High School Student to join the Council as a non-voting Youth Representative to assist in addressing the needs of the youth of St Vasilios. They will not be required to attend the Candidate Seminar, but are encouraged to do so. The Youth Rep will be asked to attend monthly Parish Council Meetings and Committee meetings of his or her choosing. This is a great opportunity to participate in the governance of your church and also earn community service. Please complete the form below and check Youth.
