Ἀδελφοί, οἱ Ἅγιοι πάντες διὰ πίστεως κατηγωνίσαντο βασιλείας, εἰργάσαντο δικαιοσύνην, ἐπέτυχον ἐπαγγελιῶν, ἔφραξαν στόματα λεόντων, ἔσβεσαν δύναμιν πυρός, ἔφυγον στόματα μαχαίρας, ἐνεδυναμώθησαν ἀπὸ ἀσθενείας, ἐγενήθησαν ἰσχυροὶ ἐν πολέμῳ, παρεμβολὰς ἔκλιναν ἀλλοτρίων. Ἔλαβον γυναῖκες ἐξ ἀναστάσεως τοὺς νεκροὺς αὐτῶν ἄλλοι δὲ ἐτυμπανίσθησαν, οὐ προσδεξάμενοι τὴν ἀπολύτρωσιν, ἵνα κρείττονος ἀναστάσεως τύχωσιν ἕτεροι δὲ ἐμπαιγμῶν καὶ μαστίγων πεῖραν ἔλαβον, ἔτι δὲ δεσμῶν καὶ φυλακῆς ἐλιθάσθησαν, ἐπρίσθησαν, ἐπειράσθησαν, ἐν φόνῳ μαχαίρας ἀπέθανον περιῆλθον ἐν μηλωταῖς, ἐν αἰγείοις δέρμασιν, ὑστερούμενοι, θλιβόμενοι, κακουχούμενοι - ὧν οὐκ ἦν ἄξιος ὁ κόσμος - ἐν ἐρημίαις πλανώμενοι καὶ ὄρεσιν καὶ σπηλαίοις καὶ ταῖς ὀπαῖς τῆς γῆς. Epistle St. Paul s Letter to the Hebrews 11: 33-40; 12: 1-2 God is wonderful among his saints. Verse: Bless God in the congregations. BRETHREN, all the saints through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated - of whom the world was not worthy wandering over deserts and mountains and in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. Then Peter said in reply, "Lo, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?" Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of man shall sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. But many that are first will be last, and the last first."

4 Άφησέ το στα χέρια του Θεού Let God Take Over Μερικές φορές δεν υπάρχει τίποτα που να μπορούμε πια να κάνουμε εκτός από το να προσευχηθούμε. Κάποιες φορές, μου έρχεται στο νου κάτι που έλεγε ο στρατηγός Ντουάιτ Αϊζενχάουερ. Μια νύχτα, τον Ιούλιο τού 1943, έβλεπε μια τεράστια αρμάδα από πλοία να πλέει από τη Μάλτα προς τις ακτές της Σικελίας για μια μεγάλη εισβολή. Ο στραγητός χαιρέτησε τους ηρωικούς άνδρες του κι ύστερα έσκυψε το κεφάλι κι άρχισε να προσεύχεται. Σε έναν υφιστάμενό του, που στεκόταν δίπλα του, εξήγησε: «Έρχεται η στιγμή που έχεις χρησιμοποιήσει, όσο γίνεται, το μυαλό σου, όλα όσα έχεις μάθει, όλες τις τεχνικές σου ικανότητες κι ύστερα λες ο κύβος ερρίφθει. Τα υπόλοιπα είναι πια στα χέρια του Θεού και εκεί πρέπει κι εσύ να τα αφήσεις». Sometimes there is nothing we can do but pray. I remember something General Dwight Eisenhower said once. One night in July of 1943 he watched a vast armada of 3,000 ships sailing from Malta to the shore of Sicily for a great invasion. The General saluted his heroic men and then bowed his head in prayer. To an officer beside him, Eisenhower explained, There comes a time when you ve used all your brains, all your training, all your technical skill, and the die is cast. The events are in the hands of God and there you have to leave them. Ο δικαστής Χάρολντ Mεντίνα, ο οποίος προήδρευσε στη δίκη έντεκα κομμουνιστών ηγετών το 1949, λέει πως κατά τη διάρκεια της δίκης έφτασε σε ένα σημείο που ένιωσε πως είχε ηττηθεί. Τα νεύρα του είχαν σπάσει από τα τηλεφωνήματα που απειλούσαν τόσο τη δική του ζωή όσο και τη ζωή μελών της οικογενείας του. Τότε ζήτησα από το Θεό να πάρει στα χέρια Του τα πάντα και να γίνει ό,τι Εκείνος ήθελε. Και τότε, δεν μπορώ να πω ότι συνέβη κάτι το μυστηριώδες και υπερφυσικό αλλά, ενώ ήμουν ξαπλωμένος στον καναπέ, ένιωσα μια νέα δύναμη να ρέει μέσα μου. Η σύντομη επικοινωνία μου με το Δημιουργό μου, έσωσε όχι μόνο τη δίκη αλλά και το λογικό μου». Υπάρχουν φορές που έχουμε κάνει ό,τι ήταν δυνατόν να κάνουμε και δεν μας μένει τίποτα άλλο από το να προσευχηθούμε. Είναι όταν σταματάμε να καταπιέζουμε τον εαυτό μας και λέμε «Άστο στο Θεό» είναι όταν ηρεμούμε, εμπιστευόμαστε το Θεό και αφήνουμε ό,τι μας απασχολεί στα χέρια Του. His nerves were frayed by telephone calls and threats against his life and the lives of members of his family. He said, One day I felt I had to leave the courtroom. And, I ll be frank about it, when I left I was certain I could never go back. I had stood as much as I could. I had to give up. But suddenly there in my room I found myself like a frightened child calling to his father in the dark. I asked God to take charge of things and that His will be done. I cannot report anything mysterious or supernatural. All I know is that as I lay on the couch some new kind of strength flowed into me. That brief period of communion with my Maker saved not only the trial but my sanity as well. There are times when we have done all we can and there is nothing else we can do but pray times when, instead of tightening up with tension, we LET GO and LET GOD as the expression goes.
