Mode 4. Psalm 146.5;134.3 Great is our Lord, great is his power. Verse: Praise Lord, for Lord is good. Brethren, food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, no better off if we do. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to weak. For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, bror for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brethren wounding ir conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of my bror's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my bror to fall. Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in Lord? If to ors I am not an apostle, at least I am to you; for you are seal of my apostleship in Lord. 3

5 GOSPEL The Gospel of Matw 25:31-46 The Lord said, "When Son of man comes in his glory all holy angels with him, n he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gared all nations, he will separate m one from anor as a shepherd separates sheep from goats, he will place sheep at his right h, but goats at left. Then king will say to those at his right h, 'Come, O blessed of my Far, inherit kingdom prepared for you from foundation of world; for I was hungry you gave me food, I was thirsty you gave me drink, I was a stranger you welcomed me, I was naked you clod me, I was sick you visited me, I was in prison you came to me.' Then righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry feed you, or thirsty give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger welcome you, or naked clo you? And when did we see you sick or in prison visit you?' And King will answer m, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of least of se my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left h, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into eternal fire prepared for devil his angels; for I was hungry you gave me no food, I was thirsty you gave me no drink, I was a stranger you did not welcome me, naked you did not clo me, sick in prison you did not visit me.' Then y also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, did not minister to you?' Then he will answer m, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of least of se, you did it not to me.' And y will go away into eternal punishment, but righteous into eternal life." 5

The Nicene Creed I believe in one God, Far Almighty, Creator of heaven earth of all things visible invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, only-begotten Son of God, begotten of Far before all ages. Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten not created, of one essence with Far through Whom all things were made. Who for us men for our salvation came down from heaven was incarnate of Holy Spirit Virgin Mary became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered was buried. And He rose on third day, according to Scriptures. He ascended into heaven is seated at right h of Far. And He will come again with glory to judge living dead. His kingdom shall have no end. PRAYERS BEFORE HOLY COMMUNION I believe, Lord, I confess, that You are truly Christ, Son of living God, Who came into world to save sinners, of whom I am first. Moreover, I believe that this is Your immaculate Body, that this is Your precious Blood. Wherefore, I pray to You: have mercy on me, forgive me my transgressions, those voluntary involuntary, those in word, those in deed, those in knowledge those in ignorance; make me worthy to partake of Your immaculate Mysteries without condemnation, for remission of sins life everlasting. Amen. Behold, I approach for divine Communion; Creator, burn me not as I partake; For You are Fire, which burns unworthy. But, rar, cleanse me from every impurity. Of Your Mystical Supper, Son of God, receive me today as a communicant; for I will not speak of Mystery to Your enemies; nor will I give You a kiss, as did Judas, but like thief I confess You: Remember me, Lord, when You come into Your Kingdom! Be awe-stricken, O man, beholding deifying Blood; For it is a lighted Coal that burns unworthy. The divine Body both deifies nourishes me; It deifies spirit, wondrously nourishes mind. You have smitten me with yearning, O Christ, by Your divine zeal You have changed me; but burn away my sins with immaterial Fire, make me worthy to be filled with delight in You; that, leaping for joy, O good One, I may magnify Your two comings. Into brilliant company of Your saints, how shall I unworthy enter? For if I dare to enter into bridal chamber, my garment betrays me, for it is not a wedding garment, I shall be bound cast out by Angels; Lord, cleanse my soul of pollution, save me, for You love mankind. Master, Who loves mankind, Lord Jesus Christ my God, do not let se Holy Things be to me for judgment because of my unworthiness, but rar may y be for purification sanctification of soul body, as a pledge of life Kingdom to come. For it is good for me to cleave to God, to put my hope of salvation in Lord. Of Your Mystical Supper, Son of God, receive me today as a communicant; for I will not speak of Mystery to Your enemies; nor will I give You a kiss, as did Judas, but like thief I confess You: Remember me, Lord, when You come into Your Kingdom! 8 SAINTS AND FEASTS Theodore Tyro, Great Martyr February 17th Saint Theodore who was from Amasia of Pontus, contested during reign of Maximian ( ). He was called Tyro, from Latin Tiro, because he was a newly enlisted recruit. When it was reported that he was a Christian, he boldly confessed Christ; ruler, hoping that he would repent, gave him time to consider matter more completely n give answer. Theodore gave answer by setting fire to temple of Cybele, "mor of gods," for this he suffered a martyr's death by fire The Holy Apostles of Seventy Philemon, Apphia, Archippus, Onesimus February 19th Philemon, who was from Colossae, a city of Phrygia, was a man both wealthy noble; Apphia was his wife. Archippus became Bishop of Church in Colossae. All three were disciples of Apostle Paul. Onesimus, who was formerly an unbeliever slave of Philemon, stole certain of his vessels fled to Rome. However, on finding him re, Apostle Paul guided him onto path of virtue knowledge of truth, sent him back to his master Philemon, to whom he wrote an epistle (this is one of fourteen epistles of Saint Paul). In this epistle, Paul commended Onesimus to his master reconciled two. Onesimus was later made a bishop; in Greece he is honoured as patron Saint of imprisoned. All se Saints received ir end by martyrdom, when y were stoned to death by idolaters. Saint Onesimus is also commemorated on February 15. 8

12 Sunday of Last Judgement: Reflections on Christian Fear of God When Thou shalt come, O righteous Judge, to execute just judgment, seated on Thy throne of glory, a river of fire will draw all men amazed before Thy judgment-seat; powers of heaven will st beside Thee, in fear mankind will be judged according to deeds that each has done. Then spare us, Christ, in Thy compassion, with faith we entreat Thee, count us worthy of Thy blessings with those that are saved. (Vesperal Sticheron from Triodion) O dread is that terrible day in which just judgment of Lord shall come. Quick shall be its coming, at a time unknown, quick shall be its might. Yet it is this very emotion that pours forth in abundance from hymns prayers of divine services celebrated on this great day, one refore that deserves our fair full attention. Very Reverend Protopresbyter Mark Leasure, Guardian of Kardiotissa Icon Very Reverend Mark Leasure was born in Warren, PA, pursued undergraduate studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He graduated from Christ Saviour Seminary in Johnstown, PA in 1991, was married ordained to Priesthood by late Metropolitan Nicholas in June of He was pastor of Saint Michael's Orthodox Church in Niles, IL for five years. He pursued Doctoral studies through Antiochian Archdiocese Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He presently serves on Diocesan Consistory Board of Trustees is Dean of Pocono Deanery. He serves as editor of Diocesan newspaper, The Church Messenger, as editor of Diocesan Year Book. Far Mark has been pastor of Saint George's Orthodox Church in Taylor, Pennsylvania for eighteen years. He Presvytera Beverly have two children, Kyra Adam. Three years ago, on October 12, 2011, Saint George's was blessed with visitation of Holy Myrrh- Streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon of Mor of God. After an afternoon of veneration by faithful, a Moleben to Theotokos was celebrated. Afterward, Reader Nectarios, Guardian of Hawaiian Icon, presented Saint George's with an 8x10 replica of Iveron Icon as a remembrance of Her visit. This Icon was anointed with Myrrh touched to original miraculous Hawaiian Icon. It was left overnight on tetrapod [table] for veneration next day. The following morning when Far Mark entered church, he noticed a sweet fragrance, assumed it was lingering aroma that had accompanied miraculous Icon 33 day before. He eventually noticed that small drops of liquid were appearing on Christ's hs, n greater quantities of fragrant Myrrh began streaming from or places on Icon. As of now, re is a steady stream of fragrant, blessed Myrrh flowing from Her Icon, bringing a message of hope healing to our fallen world. Every Wednesday evening, Saint George's offers a Moleben to Theotokos in presence of Her Icon, faithful venerate it are anointed with Her Myrrh. Far Mark has many stories of physical spiritual healing which have resulted, both to skeptics believers alike. It is a great honor blessing for us to host this Holy Icon of Theotokos, who embraces her Son so sweetly, who weeps for our fallen world. Let us approach Her with reverence as we ask for Her blessing. What is significance of Holy Relics Myrrhstreaming Icons? The pious veneration of Holy Relics, based on ir miraculous nature, originated from Divine Revelation. Even in Old Testament, re are instances of God's miracles with Holy Relics of certain people who were wellpleasing to Him. From earliest Christian times, on anniversary of martyrdom of witnesses to Faith, faithful would go to catacombs celebrate Divine Liturgy at Saints' tombs. Today, all consecrated Orthodox churches contain relics of Martyr-Saints in ir altar tables, so that all Divine Liturgies must be performed upon relics of Saints. Generally, Saints' relics are miraculous, incorrupt (meaning that skin has not decomposed, but is still present around bones). Often re is a sweet fragrance or Holy Myrrh flowing from relics, revealing Grace of God; we read in Gospels that sin of man is considered a foul odor before God while a virtuous holy life is as sweet aroma of Christ unto God (2 Cor. 2:15). Even if we American Orthodox cannot travel on pilgrimage to a beloved Saint's reliquary or tomb to venerate his or her relics, we do have icons of Saints, so can encounter Holy Ones in our daily lives. The sanctified bodies images of Saints are so powerful that miracles continually occur by means of ir relics, or even by being anointed with oil from lamps burning at ir relics, or from soil from ground where Saints are or were buried. By venerating Saints, not only do we convey our love for m, but also we bring into ourselves ir holiness blessing. Icons which stream Holy Myrrh, or "tears of heaven" as it is sometimes called, are yet anor instance where God makes His presence known to us, actively reaches out to us. They serve as a reminder that we are called to be sincere witnesses for Christ, following His example acting as shining beacons in fallen world around us. *Adapted from explanation in Retreat 2011 brochure
