Γιατί, αν ο λόγος που κηρύχτηκε μέσω αγγέλων επιβεβαιώθηκε και κάθε παράβαση και παρακοή έλαβε δίκαιη μισθαποδοσία, πώς εμείς θα ξεφύγουμε αν αμελήσουμε τόσο μεγάλη σωτηρία; Η οποία, αφού άρχισε να κηρύττεται μέσω του Κυρίου, βεβαιώθηκε σ εμάς από εκείνους που άκουσαν, EPISTLE Our Epistle Reader today is: Elizabeth Nerantzis St. Paul's Letter to Hebrews 1:10-14; 2:1-3 Prokeimenon. Mode Plagal 1. Psalm 11.7,1 You, O Lord, shall keep us preserve us. Verse: Save me, O Lord, for godly man has failed. "IN THE BEGINNING, Thou, Lord, didst found earth in beginning, heavens are work thy hs; y will perish, but thou remainest; y will all grow old like a garment, like a mantle thou wilt roll m up, y will be changed. But thou art same, thy years will never end." But to what angel has he ever said, "Sit at my right h, till I make thy enemies a stool for thy feet?" Are y not all ministering spirits sent forth to serve, for sake those who are to obtain salvation? Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if message declared by angels was valid every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by Lord, it was attested to us by those who heard him.by angels was valid every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by Lord, it was attested to us by those who heard him. 4

The Gospel Mark 2:1-12 GOSPEL At that time, Jesus entered Capernaum it was reported that he was at home. And many were gared toger, so that re was no longer room for m, not even about door; he was preaching word to m. And y came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when y could not get near him because crowd, y removed ro above him; when y had made an opening, y let down pallet on which paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw ir faith, he said to paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiven." Now some scribes were sitting re, questioning in ir hearts, "Why does this man speak thus? It is a blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?" And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that y thus questioned within mselves, said to m, "Why do you question thus in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise, take up your pallet walk? But that you may know that Son man has authority on earth to forgive sins"-he said to paralytic-"i say to you, rise, take up your pallet go home." And he rose, immediately took up pallet went out before m all; so that y were all amazed glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!" 5

PRAYERS BEFORE HOLY COMMUNION I believe, Lord, I confess, that You are truly Christ, Son living God, Who came into world to save sinners, whom I am first. Moreover, I believe that this is Your immaculate Body, that this is Your precious Blood. Wherefore, I pray to You: have mercy on me, forgive me my transgressions, those voluntary involuntary, those in word, those in deed, those in knowledge those in ignorance; make me worthy to partake Your immaculate Mysteries without condemnation, for remission sins life everlasting. Amen. Behold, I approach for divine Communion; Creator, burn me not as I partake; For You are Fire, which burns unworthy. But, rar, cleanse me from every impurity. Of Your Mystical Supper, Son God, receive me today as a communicant; for I will not speak Mystery to Your enemies; nor will I give You a kiss, as did Judas, but like thief I confess You: Remember me, Lord, when You come into Your Kingdom! Be awe-stricken, O man, beholding deifying Blood; For it is a lighted Coal that burns unworthy. The divine Body both deifies nourishes me; It deifies spirit, wondrously nourishes mind. You have smitten me with yearning, O Christ, by Your divine zeal You have changed me; but burn away my sins with immaterial Fire, make me worthy to be filled with delight in You; that, leaping for joy, O good One, I may magnify Your two comings. Into brilliant company Your saints, how shall I unworthy enter? For if I dare to enter into bridal chamber, my garment betrays me, for it is not a wedding garment, I shall be bound cast out by Angels; Lord, cleanse my soul pollution, save me, for You love mankind. Master, Who loves mankind, Lord Jesus Christ my God, do not let se Holy Things be to me for judgment because my unworthiness, but rar may y be for purification sanctification soul body, as a pledge life Kingdom to come. For it is good for me to cleave to God, to put my hope salvation in Lord. Of Your Mystical Supper, Son God, receive me today as a communicant; for I will not speak Mystery to Your enemies; nor will I give You a kiss, as did Judas, but like thief I confess You: Remember me, Lord, when You come into Your Kingdom! Remember me, Master, when You come into Your Kingdom! Remember me, Holy One, when You come into Your Kingdom! 7

15 OUTREACH Being Separate in a Connected World Beloved in Christ, we have to see ourselves as being different than world around us! As Christians we are called to be in world, but not world. (John 15:19). The Scripture says come out be separate.. (2 Cor. 6:17) Yet this can be very difficult in a world that pressures us to conform to its ways to be connected to it at all times. We live in this age 24hr news cycle, which most time is not really news, but entertainment, shock factor, blog/twitter commentary usually trivial information. We live in age text, twitter, snap chat, Facebook, etc., etc. we re pressured to feel we have to be connected constantly or we ll miss something. And yes, we are missing something, Jesus, relationship with Him. We re missing quietness, prayer, stillness, reflection. And instead, we ve become impersonal, impatient, addicted, nervous if we don t have our iphone on us at all times. Is this human advancement? Is this progress civilization? Simply because Mark Zuckerberg Steve Jobs say this is way we should live, think, interact, n must it be so? Who are y anyway - Prophets, Saints? Meanwhile, like national heroin epidemic, we have smart phone/screen addiction epidemic. Yet people are in denial as ir texting thumbs ache from carpal tunnel. Is all this natural? We re all high on information overload our minds are not wired to hle it. In his book The Shallows, Nicholas Carr explores impact that our perpetual internet connection is having on way we think. Numerous studies point to same conclusion, he writes: When we go online, we enter an environment that promotes cursory reading, hurried distracted thinking, superficial learning. We ve grown quite adept at scanning skimming, but what we are losing is our capacity for concentration, contemplation reflection. Yes, we need technology to function, but how much have we allowed it to control us? Are we able to take breaks, step away be separate make a connection with God without a screen in front us? GREAT LENT Now more than ever, Lent is a great way to feel that separationduring se 40 days prayer fasting; to feel that things are different; to slow down, put phone aside, be within ourselves in God s presence. Beloved, don t let trendy modern gadgetry rule ruin your life! Use moderation self-discipline. Take breaks from your home/fice computer smart phone. Get some exercise; take a walk; communicate face to face with your spouse children; come to church more ten to pray get connected with spiritual network, not just social network. 17 Busy Is a Sickness I'm busy. I don't know about you, but anytime I am asked, "How's it going?", I never just say "fine" anymore. Instead, my stock response is always some degree frazzled. The scale ranges from "busy" to "crazy busy" to "nutballs." The good news is, my answer is usually met with sympatic response, which is as reassuring as it is depressing. "Tell me about it! We are, too!" "I know! Isn't it insane!" "There's never enough time in day, is re?" But something changed about a month ago. I bumped into a friend at gym. Instead sympathizing when I said I was "crazy busy," he simply asked: "Really? So what do you have going on today?" I had to stop think for a moment. No one has ever asked me to "describe my busy." So I conducted a mental review our calendar before explaining that I had a worship b rehearsal in morning, followed by a basketball game for my son, a church commitment for my wife, a birthday party for my daughter, a date night that evening. His response? "Sounds like a full day. Have fun!" At first, I was a bit resentful. He obviously misunderstood me. I wanted to remind him how horrible all this was. I wanted to explain how driving from place to place in my comfortable SUV was a huge pain in ass. Not to mention how Gabby I would have to split up for part day. Buying wrapping birthday gift? Don't even get me started! And n only having an hour to get kids fed get ready for our semi-fancy date that evening. Didn't you hear me? I am busy! Sweet Baby Jesus, have mercy on my soul! Here's thing. I wear busyness like a badge honor. Only re's no honor to be had. Busy is a sickness. The American Psychological Association has published its Stress In America surveysince They find that majority Americans recognize that ir stress exceeds levels necessary to maintain good health. The most frequent reason y cite for not addressing problem? Being too busy. It's a vicious cycle. Dr. Susan Koven practices internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. In a2013 Boston Globe column, she wrote: In past few years, I've observed an epidemic sorts: patient after patient suffering from same condition. The symptoms this condition include fatigue, irritability, insomnia, anxiety, headaches, heartburn, bowel disturbances, back pain, weight gain. There are no blood tests or X-rays diagnostic this condition, yet it's easy to recognize. The condition is excessive busyness. We've heard for years that excessive stress causes health problems. But notice that Dr. Koven didn't say stress. She said busyness. And it's an epidemic. Dr. Michael Marmot, a British epidemiologist, has studied stress its effects, found root causes to be two types busyness. Though he doesn't give m ficial names, he describes most damaging as busyness without control, which primarily affects poor. Their economic reality simply does not allow for downtime. They have to work two to three jobs to keep family afloat. When you add kids to mix, it becomes overwhelming, stress results in legitimate health problems. The second type busyness also results in health problems, but it is a sickness we bring on ourselves. Like voluntarily licking door hle a preschool bathroom or having a sweaty picnic in Ball Pit at Chuck E. Cheese's. It's busyness we control. Self-created stress. Ever since my conversation a month ago, I realized that my busyness is this second type. Busyness we control. In fact, many times I create rush worry where none exists. Any typical morning, you can find me riding my kids like a couple three-dollar mules in a sea marbles, 17

18 begging m to move faster. "If you don't finish your waffles in next 90 seconds, we're gonna be late!" "Do you like being tardy?! 'Cause that's what you'll be if you don't hurry up brush your teeth!" The funny thing is, wher I prod or not, we always seem to get to school at same time every day. Before bell. And if we're late? Nothing bad really happens, but re is still voice in my head telling me a couple tardies today is a slippery slope that eventually leads to 5-10 years in Federal Prison. Ridiculous. After my conversation with my friend, I began to notice how much my rushing was an overreaction to my "awfulizing" in my head. Most time, I manufacture urgency in hopes that it will create urgency in ors. Instead, it only creates anxiety, resentment spite. Which is absolutely counter-productive. And even in cases where urgency is real, it's ten due to a packed schedule I created. All this made me wonder: Why would a grown-ass man, with a brain two opposable thumbs, decide to voluntarily create stress in his life? I found answer, it's not pretty. We are afraid ourselves. In America, we are defined by what we do. Our careers. What we produce. It's first question asked at parties, ten first tidbit information we share with strangers. The implication is that if I am not busy doing something, I am somehow less than. Not worthy. Or at least worth less than those who are producing something. Now, before you start to think this is just one guy's opinion, consider a recent study published in journal Science. In one experiment, participants were left alone in a room for up to 15 minutes. When asked wher y liked alone time, over half reported disliking it. In subsequent studies, participants were given an electric shock, n asked if y would pay money to avoid being shocked again. Not surprisingly, most said y would trade money to avoid pain. However, when se same people were left alone in a room for 15 minutes, nearly half chose to self-administer an electric shock rar than sit alone with ir thoughts. You read that right. Voluntarily. Shocking. (Which is so not punny.) Think about what this means. Just being is so painful that we are willing to hurt ourselves to avoid it. And this is perhaps saddest truth all. I am created in image likeness God, yet somehow that isn't good enough for me. So I fill my Facebook feed my calendar with self-important busyness to avoid just being. In process, I not only miss out on peace beauty that lies within myself, but I also miss seeing that same beauty in ors, because my manufactured urgency has covered it up with anxiety worry. It's time I let my busyness rest in peace. So my prayer today is this. That I stop defining myself by my doing, start defining myself by my being. That I stop measuring time by clock on wall, start measuring it by experiences I share with those around me. And that I stop seeing my life as "busy," instead, see it for what it truly is. Full. Writer's note: For past month, I have tried my best to eliminate word "busy"from my vocabulary. The result? I feel lighter. Now, when people ask how things are going, I just say, "Life is full."what works for you? 18
