NICHOLAS CHURCH OF THE WTC ΝΑΟΣ ΑΓΙΟΥ ΝΙΚΟΛΑΟΥ ΤΟΥ WTC Κυριακή 15η Μαίου, 2016-Sunday May 15, 2016 Today we recall all those who beheld Christ's Crucified and Risen Body: the Myrrhbearing Women; the Righteous Joseph of Arimathea and the Righteous Nicodemus. We can only imagine how difficult it must have been for them to associate with Christ at this time and to be witnesses of His Crucifixion and Resurrection:Thus, Nicodemus, one of the Pharisees, as the Gospel of St John tells us, spoke to Christ under cover of darkness, spent a huge sum on a hundred pounds of myrrh and aloes, and then was cast out of the synagogue and suffered for disclosing the Jewish plots to hide and deny the truth about Christ's Crucifixion and Resurrection.Joseph, Jesus' disciple, who begged the body of Christ from Pilate, gave his money for a shroud, gave up his own tomb and was then sorely persecuted by the Jews for telling the Truth about Christ, Crucified and Risen. The myrrhbearers, who selflessly sacrificed all for precious myrrh with which to anoint and care for the Body of Christ, and then announced the Resurrection of the Crucified, when others hid for fear of the Jews. All of them should have been in fear of the Jews who hated Christ. And yet they loved Christ to such a degree that they feared not and they all revealed the Truth of His Crucifixion and Resurrection and suffered for it. This concerns us as in a sense we are all myrrhbearers. Since the Body of Christ, in the words of the Holy Apostle Paul, is the Church, therefore all members of the Church are members of the Body of Christ. Therefore we know and confess the Truth of His Crucifixion and Resurrection, and so become myrrhbearers. We too must know how difficult it is to be myrrhbearers, to care for the Body of Christ, to care for the Church, Which is crucified by the world to this day. For example, the world tries to condemn the Church, because the Church's values are contrary to those of this world, 'which lies in evil'. At other times the world tries to wound, superficially, the Body of Christ. Infiltrating the outer surface of the Church, this world creates some scandal or other and so disheartens and turns people away from the Church. Those who are turned away thus accomplish the will of this world, and of the Prince of this world, Satan. To do anything for the Church, for the Body of Christ, in this world, is difficult, because it requires faith. And those of little faith have little time and patience for the Church. For instance, recently a lady came here and said: 'You are so lucky, you have a beautiful church'. I was astonished by such an attitude. Firstly, there is no such thing as 'luck'. Secondly, the little that we have here belongs not to us, but to God. And thirdly, anything that is here is certainly not the result of luck, but of one of two things: either it is the result of God's undeserved blessing, which can be given to us and can be taken away from us. Or else it is the result of tears and sweat and blood, sacrifice and hard work, in other words - myrrhbearing, selfless caring for the Body of Christ. And myrrhbearing is not only participating in the sacraments, preaching the Gospel and confessing the Faith, it is also doing that myriad of things which are so difficult because they require our sacrifice. Χαίρετε, καὶ τοῖς σοῖς Ἀποστόλοις εἰρήνην δωρούμενος ὁ τοῖς πεσοῦσι παρέχων ἀνάστασιν. Σημείωση Από την Κυριακή του Πάσχα μέχρι την Κυριακή της πεντηκοστής δεν γονατίζουμε, και δεν κάνουμε μετάνοιες. Στον εσπερινό της Γονυκλησίας (εσπερινός Του Αγίου Πνεύματος) την ημέρα της Πεντηκοστής είναι η πρώτη φορά που ξανά γονατίζουμε. Sunday of the Myrhh-Bearers. We celebrate the feast of the holy Myrrh-bearing Women. We commemorate Joseph of Arimathea, who was a secret disciple; and also Nicodemos, the disciple by night. Pachomius the Great. Placing of the Honorable Head of the Apostle Titus Eisodikon In the midst of the Church bless God the Lord from the springs of Israel, save us O Son of God, Who arose from the dead, we sing to You, Alleluia Anastasimo Apolytikion When Thou didst descend unto death, O Life Immortal, then didst Thou slay Hades with the lightning of Thy Divinity. And when Thou didst also raise the dead out of the nethermost depths, all the powers in the Heavens cried out: O Life-giver, Christ our God, glory be to Thee. Apolytikia of the Myrhh-Bearers The noble Joseph, taking Thine immaculate Body down from the Tree, and having wrapped It in pure linen and spices, laid It for burial in a new tomb. But on the third day Thou didst arise, O Lord, granting great mercy to the world. Unto the myrrh-bearing women did the Angel cry out as he stood by the grave: Myrrh oils are meet for the dead, but Christ hath proved to be a stranger to corruption. But cry out: The Lord is risen, granting great mercy to the world. Kontakion of Pascha Though You went down into the tomb, You destroyed Hades' power, and You rose the victor, Christ God, saying to the myrrh-bearing women, "Hail!" and granting peace to Your disciples, You who raise up the fallen. Note From Pascha until the Sunday of Pentecost, we do not kneel and we do not do prostrations. The Kneeling Vespers(Vespers of the Holy Spirit) on the day of Pentecost is the first time we kneel again.

Πράξεις Ἀποστόλων 6:1-7 Ἐν ταῖς ἡμεραῖς ἐκείναις, πληθυνόντων τῶν μαθητῶν, ἐγένετο γογγυσμὸς τῶν Ἑλληνιστῶν πρὸς τοὺς Ἑβραίους, ὅτι παρεθεωροῦντο ἐν τῇ διακονίᾳ τῇ καθημερινῇ αἱ χῆραι αὐτῶν. Προσκαλεσάμενοι δὲ οἱ δώδεκα τὸ πλῆθος τῶν μαθητῶν, εἶπον, Οὐκ ἀρεστόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς, καταλείψαντας τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ, διακονεῖν τραπέζαις. Acts of the Apostles 6:1-7 IN THOSE DAYS, when the disciples were increasing in number, the Hellenists murmured against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the body of the disciples and said, "it is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brethren, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." And what they said pleased the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochoros, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaos, a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands upon them. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith. Κατὰ Μᾶρκον , 16.1 Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἐλθὼν Ιωσὴφ ὁ ἀπὸ Αριμαθαίας, εὐσχήμων βουλευτής, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν προσδεχόμενος τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, τολμήσας εἰσῆλθε πρὸς Πιλᾶτον καὶ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ιησοῦ. ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἐθαύμασεν εἰ ἤδη τέθνηκε, καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν κεντυρίωνα ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν εἰ πάλαι ἀπέθανε καὶ γνοὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ κεντυρίωνος ἐδωρήσατο τὸ σῶμα τῷ Ιωσήφ. καὶ ἀγοράσας σινδόνα καὶ καθελὼν αὐτὸν ἐνείλησε τῇ σινδόνι καὶ κατέθηκεν αὐτὸν ἐν μνημείῳ, ὃ ἦν λελατομημένον ἐκ πέτρας, καὶ προσεκύλισε λίθον ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν τοῦ μνημείου. ἡ δὲ Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία Ιωσῆ ἐθεώρουν ποῦ τίθεται. Καὶ διαγενομένου τοῦ σαββάτου Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ἡ τοῦ Ιακώβου καὶ Σαλώμη ἠγόρασαν ἀρώματα ἵνα ἐλθοῦσαι ἀλείψωσιν αὐτόν. καὶ λίαν πρωῒ τῆς μιᾶς σαββάτων ἔρχονται ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον, ἀνατείλαντος τοῦ ἡλίου. καὶ ἔλεγον πρὸς ἑαυτάς τίς ἀποκυλίσει ἡμῖν τὸν λίθον ἐκ τῆς θύρας τοῦ μνημείου; καὶ ἀναβλέψασαι θεωροῦσιν ὅτι ἀποκεκύλισται ὁ λίθος ἦν γὰρ μέγας σφόδρα. καὶ εἰσελθοῦσαι εἰς τὸ μνημεῖον εἶδον νεανίσκον καθήμενον ἐν τοῖς δεξιοῖς, περιβεβλημένον στολὴν λευκήν, καὶ ἐξεθαμβήθησαν. ὁ δὲ λέγει αὐταῖς μὴ ἐκθαμβεῖσθε Ιησοῦν ζητεῖτε τὸν Ναζαρηνὸν τὸν ἐσταυρωμένον ἠγέρθη, οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε ἴδε ὁ τόπος ὅπου ἔθηκαν αὐτόν. ἀλλ ὑπάγετε εἴπατε τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ Πέτρῳ ὅτι προάγει ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν ἐκεῖ αὐτὸν ὄψεσθε, καθὼς εἶπεν ὑμῖν. καὶ ἐξελθοῦσαι ἔφυγον ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου εἶχε δὲ αὐτὰς τρόμος καὶ ἔκστασις, καὶ οὐδενὶ οὐδὲν εἶπον ἐφοβοῦντο γάρ. The Gospel of Mark 15:43-47; 16:1-8 At that time, Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. And Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the body to Joseph. And he bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud, and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid. And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?" And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back; for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you." And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

4 Η ζωή μας εξαρτάται από το είδος των λογισμών που καλλιεργούμε. Αν οι λογισμοί μας είναι ειρηνικοί και ήρεμοι, αν έχουν πραότητα και καλοσύνη, τότε έτσι είναι και η ζωή μας. Αν η προσοχή μας είναι στραμμένη στις συνθήκες του βίου μας, τότε μας καταπίνει μια δίνη λογισμών, και δεν μπορούμε να έχουμε ούτε ειρήνη ούτε γαλήνη. Το σημείο εκκίνησής μας είναι πάντοτε εσφαλμένο. Αντί να ξεκινούμε με τον εαυτό μας, εμείς θέλουμε πάντοτε να αλλάξουμε πρώτα τους άλλους και τελευταίους εμάς. Αν ο καθένας ξεκινούσε πρώτα με τον εαυτό του, θα είχαμε παντού τριγύρω ειρήνη! Ο άγιος Ιωάννης ο Χρυσόστομος λέει ότι κανείς δεν μπορεί να βλάψει τον άνθρωπο εκείνο που δεν βλάπτει τον εαυτό του ούτε κι ο ίδιος ο διάβολος. Βλέπετε; Εμείς είμαστε οι αρχιτέκτονες, οι μοναδικοί αρχιτέκτονες, του μέλλοντός μας. Με τους λογισμούς του ο άνθρωπος αναστατώνει ενίοτε την τάξη της Δημιουργίας. Έτσι καταστράφηκαν οι πρώτοι άνθρωποι με έναν κατακλυσμό εξαιτίας των κακών λογισμών και προθέσεών τους. Αυτό αληθεύει ακόμα και σήμερα οι λογισμοί μας είναι κακοί και γι αυτό δεν αποκομίζουμε καλή καρποφορία. Πρέπει να αλλάξουμε. Καθένας μας πρέπει να αλλάξει, αλλά είναι κρίμα που δεν έχουμε παραδείγματα να μας καθοδηγήσουν, ούτε στις οικογένειές μας ούτε στην κοινωνία μας.βλέπετε συνεπώς πως έχουν τα πράγματα. Όταν καλλιεργούμε κακές σκέψεις, γινόμαστε κακοί. Ίσως εμείς να νομίζουμε ότι είμαστε καλοί, αλλά το κακό είναι εντός μας. Δεν έχουμε τη δύναμη να του αντισταθούμε. Και γνωρίζουμε ως χριστιανοί ότι δεν πρέπει καν να σκεφτόμαστε το κακό, πόσο μάλλον να το διαπράττουμε.εμείς ω- στόσο, έχουμε θεία δύναμη, θεία ζωή και θεία ενέργεια. Την ημέρα της τελικής κρίσεως θα ερωτηθούμε για το τι είδους χρήση κάναμε αυτής της δύναμης, της ζωής και της ενέργειας, που μας δόθηκαν: συμβάλαμε στην αρμονία του σύμπαντος ή σπείραμε δυσαρμονία; Ο Κύριος πήρε πάνω του όλες μας τις οδύνες και τις μέριμνες, και είπε ότι θα μας παράσχει καθετί που χρειαζόμαστε. Και παρόλα αυτά εμείς κρατιόμαστε τόσο σφιχτά από τις μέριμνές μας, που δεν αφήνουμε το νου και την καρδιά μας, τις οικογένειες και καθένα τριγύρω μας, να βρει ανάπαυση. Όποτε τα προβλήματα πέφτουν πάνω μου σαν άχθος δυσβάσταχτο κι εγώ προσπαθώ να σηκώσω όλες τις μέριμνες του μοναστηριού και της αδελφότητας μόνος μου, συσσωρεύω μπελάδες σε μένα και την αδελφότητα. Ακόμα και το ευκολότερο έργο επιτελείται με τεράστια δυσκολία. Όταν όμως εναποθέτω τον εαυτό μου, την αδελφότητα και καθετί άλλο στον Κύριο, τότε ακόμα και τα δυσκολότερα έργα επιτελούνται με ευκολία. Δεν υπάρχει πίεση και βασιλεύει ειρήνη στην αδελφότητα.ο άνθρωπος εκείνος που ζει μέσα του τη Βασιλεία των Ουρανών ακτινοβολεί άγιους λογισμούς. Θείους λογισμούς. Η Βασιλεία του Θεού δημιουργεί μέσα μας μια ατμόσφαιρα παραδείσου, εν α- ντιθέσει προς την ατμόσφαιρα της κολάσεως, την οποία ακτινοβολεί όποιος έχει τον Άδη στην καρδιά του. Ο ρόλος των χριστιανών στον κόσμο είναι να φιλτράρουν την ατμόσφαιρα της γης, ώστε να κερδίζει διαρκώς έδαφος η ατμόσφαιρα της Βασιλείας του Θεού.Mπορούμε να περιφρουρούμε ολόκληρο τον κόσμο περιφρουρώντας την ατμόσφαιρα του παραδείσου μέσα μας, διότι αν χάσουμε τη Βασιλεία των Ουρανών, δεν θα σώσουμε ούτε τον εαυτό μας ούτε τους άλλους. Εκείνος που έχει μέσα του τη Βασιλεία του Θεού θα τη μεταδώσει ανεπαίσθητα και στους άλλους. Οι άνθρωποι θα ελκύονται από την εντός μας ειρήνη και ζεστασιά θα θέλουν να είναι κοντά μας, και η ατμόσφαιρα του ουρανού θα περάσει σταδιακά και σε κείνους. Σχεδόν δεν είναι καν απαραίτητο να μιλάμε στους ανθρώπους γι αυτή. Η ατμόσφαιρα του παραδείσου θα ακτινοβολεί από μέσα μας ακόμα κι όταν σιωπούμε ή μιλάμε για πράγματα καθημερινά. Θα ακτινοβολεί από μέσα μας ακόμα κι αν δεν έχουμε συναίσθηση ότι το κάνει.ο Κύριος κάλεσε τον καθένα από μας στην ύπαρξη με ένα συγκεκριμένο στόχο και σχέδιο. Και το παραμικρό χορταράκι αυτού του πλανήτη έχει ένα είδος αποστολής εδώ στη γη. Και πόσο αληθεύει αυτό για τα ανθρώπινα όντα! Ωστόσο, εμείς διαταράσσουμε ενίοτε και εμποδίζουμε το σχέδιο του Θεού. Έχουμε την ελευθερία είτε να αποδεχτούμε το θέλημά Του είτε να το απορρίψουμε ο Θεός που είναι αγάπη, δεν θέλει να άρει αυτή την ελευθερία από μας. Μάς δόθηκε απόλυτη ελευθερία, αλλά εμείς, πάνω στην τρέλα μας, ποθούμε συχνά άχρηστα πράγματα. Δεν μπορούμε να επιτύχουμε τη σωτηρία με κανέναν τρόπο πέρα από τη μεταμόρφωση του νου μας, τη μεταμόρφωσή του σε κάτι διαφορετικό από αυτό που ήταν. Ο νους μας θεώνεται από μια ιδιάζουσα ενέργεια της χάριτος του Θεού. Γίνεται απαθής και άγιος. Ένας θεωμένος νους ζει ακατάπαυστα με τη μνήμη του Θεού. Γνωρίζοντας ότι ο Θεός είναι μέσα μας κι εμείς εν Αυτώ, ο θεωμένος νους είναι ολότελα οικείος με τον Θεό. Ο Θεός είναι παντού κι εμείς είμαστε σαν ψάρια μέσα στο νερό όταν είμαστε εν Θεώ. Τη στιγμή που οι λογισμοί μας Τον εγκαταλείπουν, αφανιζόμαστε πνευματικά.

5 Those who sing in church are myrrhbearers. Those who clean the church are myrrhbearers. Those who prepare the flowers for the services are myrrhbearers. Those who look after the garden are myrrhbearers. Those who sew vestments and altar-coverings are myrrhbearers. Those who bake prosphora are myrrhbearers. Those who prepare tea or donate food or wash up are myrrhbearers. Those who donate icons or make offerings of money are myrrhbearers. Even those who simply come and pray for the salvation of all are myrrhbearers. All those who work for the Body of Christ, the Church, in this world, but are not of this world, are myrrhbearers, because they show that they too selflessly love Christ. And what is the reward of myrrhbearers? Section 1 - this is for families who have not participated in this past year's DADGOBL basketball program which did on-line registration. Basically this is a link to create a family profile with one ID and password for all your children. Every participant needs to have a baptismal and birth certificate uploaded, so these should be scanned to your computer prior to starting the registration process. If your baptismal includes your date of birth, you can scan it 1x and include it on both uploads (when required). This process takes about 5 minutes to create the family profile and another 2-3 minutes for each participant --- as long as you have your scanned docs ready. Section 2 - this is for families who have participated in this past year's DADGOBL basketball program and already have an on-line family profile. You will need to login and register each of your children. This process takes less than 2 minutes. Please remember that this is a new process for all of us so be patient and read before you click.
