Regular programs will resume the following Sunday, December 8, CATHEDRAL OFFICE THANKSGIVING SCHEDULE Please note that the Cathedral office schedule will vary this week. Stacy Rico will be available Monday, November 25, through Wednesday, November 27, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm to answer the telephone, take messages, and accept absentee ballots for the upcoming elections. The office, however, will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving. In case of an emergency, please contact Father Maximos at The Holy Trinity PTA invites you to attend GOYA sponsored Family Day and to celebrate AND BIRTHDAYS and NAME DAYS TODAY, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 24, AFTER DIVINE LITURGY The festivities will include LUNCH - As sponsor, GOYA will provide all the food. Attendees, who are celebrating a birthday or name day, have the option to bring a dessert item that must NOT contain dairy and meat since this is a fasting period. CRAFTS FOR THE KIDS - Children will make Christmas cards. TURKEY RAFFLE Tickets, which are $1.00 each, are on sale each Sunday in the Hellenic Cultural Center. PARISH CHRISTMAS CAROLING Holy Trinity Cathedral PTA has scheduled the annual Community Christmas Caroling venture for Friday, December 20, HOPE & JOY and GOYA members will share their youthful goodwill and cheer among the households they visit. The evening festivities will begin at 4:30 pm with a fasting pot luck dinner in the Hellenic Cultural Center, followed by the slated visitations to various community families, particularly shut-ins. If you wish to be included among the list of families, please contact the Cathedral office at

2 PTA VASILOPITA FUNDRAISER Under the supervision of Evangelia Bilalis, Holy Trinity Cathedral PTA volunteers baked loaves of the traditional St. Basil's sweet bread, which are on sale today, November 24, in the Coffee Room. Support this fundraiser by purchasing your New Year's bread early. YOUTH HYMNOLOGY PROGRAM During November the Sunday School students will learn "Agios o Theos The Trisagion," or Thrice Holy Hymn, a short prayer praising the holiness of God. It is chanted early in the Divine Liturgy and follows the Small Entrance after the priest has returned to the altar. Immediately following Holy Communion all students will proceed to the gymnasium for this instruction. Parents and grandparents are welcome to sit in during the session. Also, hymnology questions may be directed to Viki Moustoukas vmoustouka@aol.com., 2013 SUNDAY S C H O O L C H R I S T M A S P A G E A N T S UNDAY, DECEMBER 22 Dear Parents and Teachers, It is time again for the Annual Sunday School Christmas Pageant! Song practices will immediately follow the Youth Hymnology session each Sunday from now through Sunday, December 15, except December 1. After the pageant practice the Sunday School students will proceed upstairs to their classrooms. Please make sure that your child(ren) attends at least three (3) Sunday School classes between now and December 15 in order to participate in this year s pageant. Selections for reading and main play parts will be made on Sunday, December 8. A full rehearsal and costume distribution will immediately follow the PTA sponsored Communion Breakfast on Saturday, December 21. As director of the pageant, I look forward to having everyone together for another beautiful Sunday School Christmas Pageant and encourage all of the Holy Trinity Cathedral children to participate. ANGEL TREE Once again, the Philoptochos Society is accepting donations for the Angel Tree, a most popular project that benefits several special families within our Cathedral Community. Holy Trinity PTA, Hope & Joy, and GOYA also participate by decorating the tree and making the ornaments. Please stop by, select an ornament, and fill a parishioner's Christmas wish. Ornaments may be picked up on Sundays, December 1 and 8. All gifts are due back on December 15. Diana Moustoukas Peterson and Viki Moustoukas will be available in the Coffee Room after services on the above dates to answer any questions. PHILOPTOCHOS THANKSGIVING DONATIONS Our appreciation is extended to everyone, who made a monetary donation or donated a gift card for the Thanksgiving fundraiser. Many thanks to Cathy Vial, who decorated the baskets filled with gift cards, koulouria, and special gift items. Father Maximos will deliver the baskets to eleven families within our Holy Trinity Community. SENIOR CITIZENS LUNCHEON Senior Citizens are invited to our upcoming luncheon on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at 11:30 am at Austin s Restaurant in Metairie. Our appreciation is extended to Anthoula and Paris Malachias for sponsoring the Christmas luncheon in memory of Anthoula s brother, George Perdikidis. PHILIPPINES DISASTER Typhoon Haiyan has ravaged vast swaths in the major city of Tacloban in the Philippines leaving people displaced, homeless, without food and clean water, struggling to survive. Through your support of our chapter s fundraising activities, our Ladies Philoptochos Society is financially able to immediately respond with aid in the amount of $500 to the catastrophe in the Philippines. These funds, serving as an urgent first response, will be transmitted to the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Hong Kong, which will oversee the distribution to the needy in the Philippines. ABSENTEE VOTING DEADLINE EXTENDED The original November 30, 2013, deadline for the Cathedral office to receive absentee ballots for the Board of Trustees elections has been extended to December 4, The three days extension will compensate for the office being closed from November 28 through November 30 due to the Thanksgiving holidays and the weekend.

THE GOSPEL Luke 18:18-27 At that time, a ruler came to Jesus and asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.' " And he said, "All these I have observed from my youth." And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich. Jesus looking at him said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?" But he said, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."
