Working with Choir Director Alex Tiliakos, the adult choir will welcome any child in 4th grade and older to join them during Sunday Divine Liturgies. Students, who wish to participate, should be in the Cathedral choir loft by 10:00 am. They will be assigned a mentor. After Holy Communion, they will proceed to Sunday Church School but during the summer may remain throughout the service. As always, the Youth Hymnology staff truly appreciates the tremendous support and encouragement from parents, grandparents, Parish Council, ECYM, choir members, and parishioners in this important youth ministry. 2 PARKWAY PROMENADE XXV Jefferson Beautification, Inc. will celebrate Parkway Promenade XXV on Sunday, April 3, 2016, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Chateau Golf and Country Club in Kenner. The theme is "Cruising the Mediterranean," and the Hellenic Dancers of Holy Trinity will perform. Profits from this 25th anniversary event will help purchase Greek muses bronze sculptures for the gardens of the new Jefferson Performing Arts Center. PHILOPTOCHOS GARAGE SALE Chairperson Elaine Nugent is grateful to all, who brought in garage sale items. Everything was priced, and Dimitri Vatakis placed them in storage. However, with the busy schedules of Pascha and Greek Festival approaching, please do not bring garage sale items to the church after Sunday, April 10. Drop offs can resume three weeks after Greek Festival. PHILOPTOCHOS STEWARDSHIP DRIVE Thank you to all, who renewed their Philoptochos membership for the coming year. The Chapter is pleased to have eleven new members and encourages others to please consider joining. Even if you are unable to attend meetings, your stewardship supports many worthwhile projects. FOOD DRIVE Thank you to everyone, who brought food items for the food drive. Nonperishable food is still needed. Please bring food items to the Coffee Room and place them in the basket. P a r e n t s, G r a n d p a r e n t s, a n d G o d p a r e n t s, You are encouraged to pick up a CHURCH QUIET BAG, available in the small room on the right side of the Narthex, for your youngest Holy Trinity parishioners. The bags include religious books and quiet activities that can help your children learn about the Orthodox faith, with your guidance, during Divine Liturgy. You are also encouraged to work with the young ones during the Liturgy by having them stand up for the processions, Epistle and Gospel readings, the Nicene Creed, and the Lord's Prayer, as well as kneel at the appropriate time. Engage them in looking at the icons and quietly remind them of what they see in Church. Please RETURN THE BAGS in their original condition to the room in the Narthex prior to Sunday Church School so that others can enjoy them the following Sunday. We will host His Grace Bishop Gregory of Nyssa, who is the Diocesan Bishop of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the USA. Bishop Gregory served here in the Cathedral until he was ordained to the Episcopacy by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America on November 27, 2012, at Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Bishop Gregory is the fourth Ruling Bishop of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the USA, which consists of about eighty (80) parishes. His Diocesan Cathedral is located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Because of the status of his Diocese under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, he is considered to be a titular Bishop and is named for an ancient Bishopric or Diocesan See. Because of this his title is Bishop Gregory of Nyssa. Research from Wikipedia suggests the following: The earliest bishop of Nyssa, whose name is known as Gregory of Nyssa, was the brother of Basil the Great, who was bishop of the metropolitan see Caesarea in Cappadocia. Gregory was bishop of Nyssa from about 372 to 394. No longer a residential bishopric, Nyssa is today listed by the Church as a titular see. His Grace Bishop Gregory will be the main speaker for our Lenten Family Retreat on Saturday, April 2, and also will be the celebrant of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, April 3. Please join us for both of these events and please notify the Cathedral office that you will be attending the retreat at 10:00 am on Saturday. Food orders will be placed on Wednesday!

3 The Stewardship Committee thanks everyone for the tremendous support received so far in the annual Holy Trinity Cathedral Stewardship Campaign. If you have not returned your pledge yet, you may submit it to the Cathedral office or at any service. Also, there are still a number of days available for a $1,000 pledge/sponsorship. Again, thanks for your support. DENNIS A. GEORGES LECTURE The 2016 Dennis A. Georges Lecture in Hellenic Culture will present a dramatic reading of scenes from Sophocles Ajax on Thursday, April 7, 2016, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Dixon Hall, Tulane University. The public is invited to attend this free lecture. Seating is limited. FLORAL DONATIONS FOR THE SALUTATION SERVICES The floral decorations that adorned the Panagia icon during the second Salutations to the Theotokos this past Friday were generously donated by the Petros Bilalis Family. The Cathedral family sincerely thanks them for their consideration, as well as all of the families that pledged donations for the remaining Friday night services. HELLENIC DANCERS Dance practice for the Greek Festival is each Sunday at 1:00 pm and each Thursday at 6:30 pm during Great Lent. COMMUNITY WIDE POTLUCK LUNCHEON IN APRIL All HTC parishioners are invited to attend the Community Wide Family Day Fasting Potluck Luncheon and "Earth Day Celebration" on Sunday, April 17, after church services for prayer, fellowship, and information about Mother Earth. All HOPE and JOY and GOYA members are encouraged to participate in an Earth Day craft, which will be provided. If you wish to sponsor a month that remains available, call Maria Anastasiou at VACATION CHURCH SCHOOL STAFF NEEDED Presvytera Harriet is seeking staff members for the 2016 Vacation Church School that will take place June Teachers, an arts and crafts instructor, a music instructor, and a recreation instructor, as well high school student assistants interested in obtaining community service hours, are needed. Please speak to her, if you are interested in participating in one of these capacities. It is important to start planning now! The Vacation Church School is a fun, exciting ministry for children ages 3 through middle school. KYRA SARAKOSTI LADY LENT Kyra Sarakosti represents an old Greek tradition associated with Great Lent. She has no mouth, a sign that she is fasting, and no ears, as she refuses to listen to gossip. She wears a cross and has her arms folded reverently in prayer to evoke one's spiritual journey during the forty days. Her seven feet help track the Sundays of Lent before Pascha. She is often depicted as a nun, suggesting the kind of behavior worthy of imitating; but, there also are versions of her as a modest, pious woman.

THE EPISTLE St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 1:10-14; 2:1-3 The Lord is my strength and my song. The Lord has chastened me sorely. "IN THE BEGINNING, you O Lord, didst found the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands; they will perish, but thou remainest; they will all grow old like a garment, like a mantle thou wilt roll them up, and they will be changed. But thou art the same, and thy years will never end." But to what angel has he ever said, "Sit at my right hand, till I make thy enemies a stool for thy feet?" Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to serve, for the sake of those who are to obtain salvation? Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if the message declared by angels was valid and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard him. THE GOSPEL Mark 2: 1-12 At that time, Jesus entered Capernaum and it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, not even about the door; and he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiven." Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, "Why does this man speak thus? It is a blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?" And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you question thus in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise, take up your pallet and walk? But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins"-he said to the paralytic-"i say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home." And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"
