Κυριακή του Ασώτου Η δεύτερη Κυριακή του Τριωδίου είναι αφιερωµένη στην επίσης καταπληκτική και διδακτική παραβολή του ασώτου υιού (Λουκ.15,13-32). Οι Πατέρες όρισαν να είναι αφιερωµένη η Κυριακή αυτή στην συγκεκριµένη παραβολή του Κυρίου, για να τονισθεί στους πιστούς η απύθµενη αγάπη του Θεού προς τον άνθρωπο και το πλούσιο έλεος της συγχώρεσης, που δίνει στους µετανοούντες ανθρώπους. Αν η προηγούµενη Κυριακή είναι αφιερωµένη στη στηλίτευση της παθολογικής εγωιστικής αυτάρκειας και η κατάδειξη των δεινών συνεπειών της, η δεύτερη Κυριακή είναι αφιερωµένη στη µετάνοια και στα ευλογηµένα παρεπόµενά της. Ο ευαγγελιστής Λουκάς µας διέσωσε την παραβολή αυτή ως εξής: Υπήρχε κάποιος πατέρας που είχε δυο γιους. Ο δεύτερος, κάποια στιγµή, ζήτησε το µερίδιο της κληρονοµιάς του και έφυγε σε µακρινές χώρες, όπου σπατάλησε την περιουσία του σε ασωτίες. Τα χρήµατα κάποτε τελείωσαν και στην περιοχή έπεσε µέγας λιµός. Αναγκάστηκε να γίνει χοιροβοσκός και να προσπαθεί να χορτάσει από τις βρωµερές και ευτελείς τροφές των χοίρων. Μέσα στη δίνη του θυµήθηκε την αρχοντική ζωή στο πατρικό σπίτι. Θυµήθηκε πως ακόµα και οι δούλοι του πατέρα του ζούσαν ασύγκριτα καλλίτερη ζωή από τη δική του. Τότε πήρε τη µεγάλη απόφαση να γυρίσει στο σπίτι του και να ζητήσει από τον πατέρα του να τον συγχωρήσει και να τον προσλάβει ως δούλο του. Όµως ο στοργικός πατέρας του τον δέχτηκε ως γιο του και τον περιποιήθηκε δεόντως, παρά τις διαµαρτυρίες του µεγάλου γιου του, διότι «νεκρός ην και ανέζησε, και απολωλώς ήν και ευρέθη» (Λουκ.15,32). Κάποιοι υποστηρίζουν δικαιολογηµένα πως και αν ακόµη είχε χαθεί ολόκληρο το Ευαγγέλιο και είχε σωθεί µόνο αυτή παραβολή, θα µπορούσε αυτή να αποτελέσει κείµενο ελπίδας και σωτηρίας για το ανθρώπινο γένος. Σε καµιά άλλη θρησκεία δε

παρουσιάζεται ο Θεός τόσο συµπονετικός, ως στοργικός άνθρωπος πατέρας. Σέβεται απόλυτα την ανθρώπινη ελευθερία και τις επιλογές του κάθε ανθρώπου, ως πρωταρχικό στοιχείο της ανθρώπινης προσωπικότητας. Πνίγει µέσα στα φιλάνθρωπα σπλάχνα Του τον πόνο Του για την αποστασία του καθενός και περιµένει καρτερικά την επιστροφή του. Μόλις αυτή υπάρξει σβήνει µε µια µονοκονδυλιά όλες τις άνοµες πράξεις του και τον αποκαθιστά στην πρότερη θέση του. Μετάνοια σηµαίνει κατά γράµµα αλλαγή νου. Στην ουσία σηµαίνει την οντολογική µετάλλαξη του ανθρώπου από την κατάσταση της εγωπαθούς αυτάρκειας στην κατάσταση της συναίσθησης της αµαρτωλότητας. Είναι η µετάβαση στο πνεύµα της ταπείνωσης και της συντριβής µπροστά στον απόλυτα αγαθό Θεό, του Οποίου το φως φανερώνει άπλετα το σκοτεινό µας εαυτό. Η συνειδητοποίηση της πτωτικής µας καταστάσεως, της επώδυνης τραυµατικής εµπειρίας µας και της απουσίας διαύλων της χάριτος του Θεού στον εαυτό µας είναι το πρώτο βήµα για την οντολογική µας αποκατάσταση. Έπεται η υλοποίηση της µεγάλης µας απόφασης για την έµπρακτη αλλαγή της νοοτροπίας µας και τη διόρθωση της πορείας µας προς το Θεό. Είναι περιττό να τονίσουµε πως η µετάνοια χρειάζεται ιδιαίτερο ηρωισµό και αγωνιστική διάθεση, όπως αποτυπώνεται θαυµάσια στην ευαγγελική περικοπή του ασώτου υιού. Όπως όλα τα αγαθά, έτσι και η σωτηρία µας, είναι αποτέλεσµα ηρωισµού, ασυµβίβαστης αυταπάρνησης και σκληρού αγώνα. Ένα θαυµάσιο τροπάριο της ηµέρας εκφράζει απόλυτα τα υψηλά νοήµατα της παραβολής, ως εξής: «Της πατρικής δωρεάς διασκορπήσας τον πλούτον, αλόγοις συνεβοσκόµην ο τάλας κτήνεσι, και τοις αυτών ορεγόµενος τροφής, ελίµωττον µη χορταζόµενος άλλʹ υποστρέψας προς τον εύσπλαχνον Πατέρα, κραυγάζω συν δάκρυσι Δέξαι µε ως µισθίον, προσπίπτοντα τη φιλανθρωπία Σου, και σώσον µε». Οι πιστοί καλούνται την περίοδο του Τριωδίου να συνειδητοποιήσουν την άµετρη αγάπη του Θεού και να επιστρέψουν, όπως ο άσωτος της παραβολής, σε Αυτόν και να ζητήσουν το έλεός Του. Η κατανυκτική αυτή περίοδος είναι µοναδική για µετάνοια και συντριβή.

Luke 15:11-32 The Lord said this parable: ʺThere was a man who had two sons; and the younger of them said to his father, ʹFather, give me the share of the property that falls to me.ʹ And he divided his living between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living. And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want. So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his belly with the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself he said, ʹHow many of my fatherʹs hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, ʹFather, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants.ʹ And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. Why Give to the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Day School Annual Fund We, as a vibrant community, have dedicated ourselves to giving every youngster the opportunity to learn and grow in a Greek- American environment and perpetuate the Greek Orthodox Faith. HCS, like other parochial and private schools, relies on tuition fees and donations from parents, community member s, friends and local businesses to cover the operating budget of the school. Tuition alone does not cover the full cost of educating our students. Donations to the Annual Fund allow the school to enrich and expand our instructional program(s); recruit & retain highly qualified teachers; maintain low student teacher ratios; improve our facilities & infrastructure; and, keep tuition, at an affordable level.
