District 2450 News Σελίδα 5 DISTRICT DISASTER RELIEF TASK FORCE (DDRTF) Mission: The District Disaster Relief District Task Force (DDRTF) is a new District Task Force formed by the District 2450 after the year 2010 flood disasters in Egypt. DDRTF attempts to reach out to serve the ten countries of the District in case of a disaster. DDRTF has coordinators representing the 10 countries to enable coordination of relief efforts in the District as a whole. DDRTF acts as the overarching policy and leadership framework intended to support and unify District 2450 Rotarian involvements in relief and development activities - locally, regionally and worldwide. Rotarian Action Groups implement their programs through Rotarians, Clubs and Districts around the world. The Disaster Relief Task Force is designed to help Rotarians contribute to preparedness in a timely and effective manner before a disaster and to participate in response, relief, recovery and rebuilding coordination after a disaster: to help save lives, alleviate suffering, stimulate recovery and mitigate hazards. Goals: To fulfill our mission purpose, the District Disaster Relief Task Force will endeavor to provide a number of Rotarian supports. These supports include: Provide training programs for all levels of Rotarian relief and development involvements. (This year we hope to cooperate with some NGOs working in the field of preparedness to provide training to interested Rotarians, Rotaractors and volunteers). In the years to come, it is envisaged to initiate a disaster relief training center. Assure that Rotary programs are not duplicating or interfering with other programs (whether Rotary or third party); provide district wide coordination; help identify gaps in coverage in any particular disaster response and act as required. Provide Rotary disaster entities with an effective promotional and communications vehicle to display their disaster programs, recruit interested parties and generate resources. Provide contacts and skill-set inventories of Rotarians in the District who have specialized skills useful in disaster operations and who are available to assist Rotarian disaster intervention programs including the referral of volunteers. Assist Rotarians and Rotary entities to be able to scale-up and scale-down to meet the needs, challenges and demands of an intervention based on context and Rotary's terms of reference. Assist clubs and disaster interventions with resources to meet surge capacity needs in terms of funding, personnel, materials and logistics. (Not this year). Provide an online disaster operations library of plans, procedures, protocols and best practice guidelines relevant to disaster management and relief and development activities Compile a communication list of disaster relief entities in the District countries, the region and worldwide. Strategy and Actions to Be Taken in 2010-2011: 1. Promote DDRTF as a new District Task Force in the District, locally and internationally. Let us be visible and have people know we exist! (communication, Press coverage, media, special event (s)) --- DESIGN LOGO 2. Page on District website and Website follow-up 3. Creating a contact list of other disaster relief entities locally- regionally and internationally, finding out what they do, how can they help us and how to contact them? 4. Creating a contact list of Rotarian and non-rotarian volunteers (group by profession) who will be ready to act in case of disaster. 5. Compile a set of procedures and actions to take in case of different kinds of disasters (research needs to be done). 6. Fundraising to collect money to support our goals (Events) 7. Contacting entities and NGOs to see of possibilities to train volunteers on disaster relief measures: (logistics, first-aid, aid distribution..etc.). Conducting at least 2 training sessions this year.

Advances in technology are happening so quickly that they cause constant changes in our businesses and professions. Yet about one-third of the world s population is still living at a subsistence level with little change in their lives. It is a stark contrast and a cause for concern. Rotary is the best in the world at linking people of goodwill around the globe and then gaining their cooperation and support to make the world a much better place to live and work. Rotary has both a distinguished heritage and a bright future. My primary task as president is to enhance the vitality and viability of Rotary clubs and to enable them to succeed in the midst of societal changes. This is an important task because it is the clubs that address and alleviate the root problems of society and thereby make the world a better place. Wind of change was a new and significant phrase when I was a Rotary Scholar in South Africa in the early 1960s. It is serendipitous that the phrase that was first publicized in my host city of Cape Town is now applicable to Rotary as we contemplate the changes in society that dictate some corresponding changes in our organization. The phrase is now better known as winds of change. We are currently enjoying a culture of innovation at Rotary International. We have the ability to look at all of our programs and practices to see if they can be improved, even as we steadfastly maintain our core values. I hope many Rotarians will take advantage of this opportunity to identify and implement improvements in their clubs and districts as well. Rotary lives and breathes in our 33,000 clubs, and it is the clubs that improve lives by Building Communities Bridging Continents. If we succeed in helping clubs to become Bigger, Better, and Bolder in the next year, then it will be clear that the best days of Rotary are still ahead. We are fortunate to be Rotarians! Together, we can make the world a better place!
