ST THEODORE GREEK SCHOOL INSTRUCTORS Eugenia Kalis St Theodore s upper-level students have the pleasure of being instructed by Eugenia Kalis. Born in Greece, Eugenia is a graduate of Arsakios Pedagogical Academy of Patras. In 1960 she was sent to the US by the government of Greece, where she attended Northwestern University, University of Dayton, Johns Hopkins University, and the Baltimore Business Institute. Her teaching experience includes 10 years at various elementary schools in Greece; 2 years at Essex Community College; 7 years at St. Nicholas Afternoon Greek School; as well as teaching at various American Public Schools in Chicago. Her love of children is evident, as she has taught the Greek language, culture, and civilization for more than thirty years! Eugenia and her husband, Angelos Kalis, have one son. Evangelia Cheakelos Evangelia loves to teach and work with kids! Born in Arta, Epirus, Evangelia completed High School in Greece. She then worked as a kindergarten teacher until she came to the United States in 1984. Evangelia was a substitute Greek School teacher at St. Theodore s for years before becoming our primary Preschool/Kindergarten instructor. She also became a teacher for diplomats in Columbia and Lanham. GOD BLESS OUR SUNDAY SCHOOL INSTRUCTORS St. Theodore is blessed to have two very dedicated volunteer Sunday School teachers. Yes volunteer. Why bold and italicized? Because of their unwavering commitment to be here, week after week, for our children. Every Sunday, they arrive to provide insight into our religion; to offer guidance for dealing with life s challenges; to provide the foundation to live Orthodox lives. They supplement and strengthen the lessons we teach our children at home, helping to build upon the values we cherish. Christina Villano Christina has gallantly led our Sunday School and provided instruction for our older youth for many years! (Sorry, we lost count.) Originally from West Virginia, Christina whose parents are Cypriot - has lived in Maryland for 27 years. She graduated from the University of Charleston in 1978 and has been teaching Spanish and English for 30 years. Her husband, Bob, works for USAirways, and her daughter Vicky is a senior at the University of Connecticut. In Christina s spare time (which she rarely has!) she likes to read and travel. She has been attending St Theodore for 19 years, and has been dedicated to our Sunday School for many of those. Tracy Papadopoulos The Sunday School teacher for the younger level class, Tracy has been teaching Sunday School at St. Theodore for 6 years. Tracy has a B.A. in French and Education and a M.A. in French Literature. She taught kindergarten in the French Immersion program at Shadyside Elementary School in Suitland, MD for 5 years and taught middle school reading and foreign language at Walker Middle School in Capitol Heights, MD for 2 years. Presently, Tracy teaches science to preschool children part-time and also volunteers her time as Treasurer on our PTO. Tracy and her husband, Bill, have two children (Afroditi and Miltiadis)

Γεώργιο Κολάρο Photo by George Kolaros) Κάθε Παρασκευή καθ όλη την διάρκεια της Αγίας και Μεγάλης Τεσσαρακοστής στον ιερό ναό του Αγίου Θεοδώρου, Lanham MD, τελέστηκε η ιερά ακολουθία των Χαιρετισμών προς τιμήν της Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου και Αειπαρθένου Μαρίας. Every Friday evening during the whole period of Great Lent at the holy church of St Theodore, Lanham MD, the service of the Salutations to the Holy Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary were celebrated. (Στη φωτογραφία ο Γεώργιος Ζότος. In the photo: George Zotos). Την 20 η Μαρτίου, 2011, γιορτάστηκε με κάθε μεγαλοπρέπεια η γιορτή της Εθνικής Παλιγγενεσίας του 1821. Μετά από την Θεία Λειτουργία, όπου προέστη ο Σεβ. Μητρ. Αντινόης κ. κ. Παντελεήμων, τελέστηκε η Δοξολογία για την Απελευθέρωση του Ελληνικού Έθνους από τον σκληρότατο Τουρκικό συζό, που κράτησε 400 / 500 χρόνια. Στο τέλος της Δοξολογίας μίλησε εκ μέρους της Ελληνικής Πρεσβείας στην Ουάσινγκτον ο Εντιμώτατος κ. Αντώνιος Μαρμαρινός, Σχολικός Σύμβουλος της Πρεσβείας. Κατόπιν απηύθυνε τον λόγον ο Σεβ. κ. Παντελεήμων. Επακολούθησε απαγγελία ποιημάτων για τον ηρωϊσμό των αγωνιστών του 1821 από τα παιδι του Ελληνικού Σχολεόυ Αγίου Θεδώρου, και τέλος έλαβε τον λόγο η δασκάλα του Ελληνικού Σχολείου κ. ΠΑΝΤΕΛΕΗΜΟΝΟΣ / By His Eminence Metropolitan PANTELEIMON of Antinoes After the Divine Liturgy, which was presided by His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Antinoes, the service of Great Doxology followed. At the end of the Doxology, His Excellency Mr. Antonios Marmarinos, Counselor for Education for the Greek Embassy, addressed the faithful. His Eminence Panteleimon also addressed the people. Following the two speeches, the children of the Greek School sang and said poems honoring all those who gave their life for Christ s Faith and the freedom of Greece during 1821.
