Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church April 2011 Page 1 Η ΘΕΙΚΗ ΑΓΑΠΗ - «Ω ΤΟΥ ΠΑΡΑ ΟΞΟΥ ΘΑΥΜΑΤΟΣ!» Πάσχα 2011 Αγαπητοί µου ευλαβείς Xριστιανοί, Πως µπορούµε να καταλάβουµε την απέραντη αγάπη του Θεού η να συλλάβουµε το ακατάληπτο σχέδιο της σωτηρίας µας; Με ποιό τρόπο µπορούµε να πλησιάσουµε το απροσµέτρητο βάθος της φιλανθρωπίας του Θεού ή να ανεβούµε στα απροσπέλαστα ύψη της δόξης Του; Ιδού το παράδοξον µυστήριο της Θεϊκής αγάπης! «Εν αρχή» (Γένεσις) ο Θεός δηµιούργησε τα πάντα από το µηδέν. Εκεί όπου βασίλευε το σκοτάδι και το χάος, άνθισε η αγάπη Του και έφερε ζωή και φως στο κόσµο. «Και παραπεσόντας... ουκ απέστης πάντα ποιών, έως ηµάς εις τον ουρανόν ανήγαγες και την βασιλείαν σου εχαρίσω την µέλλουσαν.» (Αναφορά της Θείας Λειτουργίας) Από την µεγάλη Του αγάπη για µας ο πολυεύσπλαχνος Κύριος µας έστειλε αγγελιαφόρους, προφήτες, αγίους, άνδρες και γυναίκες, όπως τους προστάτες της Εκκλησίας µας, Αγίους Πέτρο και Παύλο, να διδάξουν την αλήθειά Του µε σκοπό να επιστρέψουν οι πάντες στην αγάπη Του. «Μέγα το µυστήριον της σωτηριώδους οικονοµίας Σου!» Στο τέλος ο ίδιος ο Θεός µας επισκέφθηκε στο πρόσωπο του µονογενούς Υιού, Του Κυρίου ηµών Ιησού Χριστού. «Και ο λόγος σάρξ εγένετο και εσκήνωσεν εν ηµίν.» (Ιωάν. α 14) Ο ηµιουργός ήλθε να σώσει ο Ίδιος το πλάσµα Του. Ιδού, ο Κύριος των κυριευόντων ευρίσκεται σπαργανωµένος σε µια ταπεινή φάτνη σ ένα σπήλαιο. Ο Βασιλεύς των βασιλευόντων έγινε ο ταπεινός υπηρέτης. Αυτός που είναι τέλειος και αναµάρτητος υποβάλλεται στο καθαρτήριο βάπτισµα των υδάτων. Αυτός που ποτέ δεν έλαβε σχολική µόρφωση, εδίδαξε την θεϊκη σοφία. Αυτός που από αγάπη συναναστράφηκε αµαρτωλούς και ασθενείς, πρόσφερε συγχώρηση και θεραπεία. Ιδού το παράδοξον µυστήριο της Θεϊκης αγάπης! Πράγµατι, «φοβερόν και παράδοξον µυστήριον... ενεργούµενον καθοράται. Ο αφανής κρατείται. Ο ετάζων καρδίας και νεφρούς αδίκως ετάζεται. Ειρκτή κατακλείεται ο την άβυσσον κλείσας. Πιλάτω παρίσταται, ω τρόµω παρίστανται Ουρανών αι υνάµεις. Στέφανον εξ ακανθών περιτίθεται ο των αγγέλων Βασιλεύς. Ψευδή πορφύραν περιβάλλεται, ο περιβάλλων τον ουρανόν εν νεφέλαις. Ραπίζεται χειρί του πλάσµατος ο Πλάστης. Ράπισµα κατεδέξετο ο εν Ιορδάνη ελευθερώσας τον Αδάµ. Ξύλω κατακρίνεται ο κρίνων ζώντας και νεκρούς. Κρεµάται έπι ξύλου ο εν ύδασι την γην κρεµάσας. Ήλοις προσηλώθη, ο Νυµφίος της Εκκλησίας. Λόγχη εκεντήθη ο Υιός της Παρθένου. Τάφω κατακλείεται ο καθαιρέτης του Άδου.» (Θεοτοκίον, Ακολουθεία Αποκαθηλώσεως Μεγάλης Παρασκευής) Ω, του παραδόξου θαύµατος! Ποιός µπορεί να το καταλάβει; Ποιός νους µπορεί να το συλλάβει; Ποιός µπορεί να εµβαθύνει στο µυστήριον της αγάπης του Θεού! «Ου φέρει το µυστήριον έρευναν, πίστει µόνη τούτο πάντες δοξάζοµεν.» «Προσκυνούµεν σου τα πάθη Χριστέ. είξον ηµίν και την ένδοξόν σου Ανάστασιν.» Και οι προσευχές όλων των αιώνων απαντήθηκαν! Ο Χριστός Ανέστη! «Μηδείς φοβείσθω θάνατον, ηλευθέρωσε γαρ ηµάς ο του Σωτήρος θάνατος. Έσβεσεν αυτόν υπ αυτού κατεχόµενος. Εσκύλευσε τον Άδην ο κατελθών εις τον Άδην. Επίκρανεν αυτόν γευσάµενον της σαρκός Αυτού. Έλαβε σώµα και Θεώ περιέτυχεν. Έλαβε γην και συνήντησεν ουρανώ. Έλαβεν όπερ έβλεπε και πέπτωκεν όθεν ουκ έβλεπε. Που σου θάνατε, το κέντρον; Που σου Άδη, το νίκος; Ανέστη Χριστός, και συ καταβέβλησαι. Ανέστη Χριστός, και πεπτώκασι δαίµονες. Ανέστη Χριστός, και χαίρουσιν άγγελοι. Ανέστη Χριστός, και ζωή πολιτεύεται. Ανέστη Χριστός, και νεκρός ουδείς επί µνήµατος. Χριστός γαρ εγερθείς εκ νεκρών απαρχή των κεκοιµηµένων εγένετο. Αυτώ η δόξα, και το κράτος, εις τους αιώνας των αιώνων. Αµήν.» (Kατηχητικός Λόγος Αγίου Ιωάννου του Χρυσοστόµου, Πάσχα) Ιδόυ το παράδοξον µυστήριο της Αγάπης του Θεού για το πλάσµα Του! How do we understand His incomprehensible plan for our salvation? How do we fathom the immeasurable depth of His charity? How do we ascend to the unattainable height of His glory? Behold the awesome mystery of God s Love! In the beginning (Genesis), God created everything out of nothing ex nihilo. Where there was darkness and emptiness, God s love blossomed and brought forth light and life. And when we fell You did not cease doing everything until You led us to heaven and granted us Your kingdom to come (Anafora Prayer of the Divine Liturgy). In His love for us, God sent His messengers, holy and prophetic men and women, like our own patron Saints Peter and Paul, to preach the truth and bring humanity back to His Love. Beyond words is the mystery of Your plan of salvation. Ultimately, God Himself came to us in the person of Jesus Christ. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). The Creator came to save His creation. But, the Lord of Lords is found lying in a lowly manger in a cave. The King of Kings becomes a humble servant. He who is perfect and pure submits to the cleansing waters of Baptism. The One who had no schooling, teaches divine wisdom. He who sat with sinners and the sick, forgives and heals. Behold the awesome mystery of God s Love! Then truly, a strange and awesome mystery is witnessed. The infinite One is arrested and held. The One who tries the inward heart of each person is Himself put on trial. He who sealed the deep is sealed in prison. The One before whom the powers of heaven stand quaking stands before Pilate. The King of the heavenly hosts wears a crown of thorns. The One who clothed the heavens in clouds, is wrapped in the purple of mockery. The Creator is struck by the hand of the creature. He who freed Adam in the Jordan River, is buffeted with blows. The One who judges the living and the dead is judged for the Cross. He who suspended the earth amid the waters is suspended on the Tree. The Bridegroom of the Church is transfixed with nails. The Virgin s Son is pierced with a lance. He who despoiled Hades is shut up in a tomb. (Theotokion, Great Friday Vespers-The Apokathelosis) Behold the awesome mystery of God s Love! Who can understand it? Who can comprehend it? Who can fathom it? We cannot understand this mystery, but we glorify it with one faith. We revere Your Passion, O Christ. Show us Your glorious Resurrection. And the prayers of the ages are answered! Christ is Risen! No one need fear death; the Saviour s death has freed us from it. While He was its captive, He stifled it. He despoiled Hades as He descended into it. It was vexed when it tasted His flesh. It received a body and encountered God. It took earth and came face to face with heaven. It took what it saw and fell by what it could not see. Death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory? Christ is risen and you are overthrown. Christ is risen and the demons have fallen. Christ is risen and the angels rejoice. Christ is risen and life rules. Christ is risen and not one dead remains in the tomb. For Christ, having risen from the dead, has become the first fruits of those who have died. To Him be the glory and the dominion, forever. Amen. Our retreat will focus on ways that we become new persons in Christ through the many opportunities we are provided in the Orthodox Church. Children will learn how we are granted a new beginning, not only through our Baptism, but on a continual basis. We encourage all young people in grades JK to 8 to attend. Children 4 and under are welcome to attend with parent/guardian supervision. Students in grade 9 and above are also needed to act as group leaders and assist with other activities. Their involvement can contribute toward their community service hours required for graduation from high school. GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING, SUNDAY, MAY 1 st, 2011 The council of the Greek Orthodox Church of Sts. Peter and Paul invite all members in good standing* to attend a GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING on Sunday, May 1 st, 2011 at 4:00 pm., in the Church Hall, 527 Bridgeport Road E., Kitchener. If a quorum is not present at this time, the General Assembly will be held on Sunday, May 15 th, 2011 at 3:00 pm. The issue of this general assembly is very important and everyone must attend.
