ΣΕΒΑΣΜΟΣ ΓΙΑ ΤΗ ΘΕΙΑ ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΙΑ Συχνά είναι δύσκολη η προετοιμασία των παιδιών για τη Θεία Λειτουργία. Όμως το να χάνουμε όλη τη Λειτουργία και μετά να περιμένουμε να κοινωνήσουμε αφού μοιραστεί το αντίδωρο είναι αδικαιολόγητο πόσο μάλλον όταν τις περισσότερες Κυριακές προσφέρονται δύο λειτουργίες. Συνεπώς, σας γνωρίζουμε ότι κανείς δε θα λαμβάνει τη Θεία Κοινωνία κατόπιν της Θείας Λειτουργίας, εκτός από τους πολύ ηλικιωμένους και αρρώστους - ή φυσικά σε περίπτωση ανάγκης. Δικαιολογίες τύπου «ήταν αδύνατο να ετοιμάσω τα παιδιά έγκαιρα σήμερα» από εδώ και πέρα δεν θα αρκούν. Διδάσκουμε στα παιδιά μας να είναι συνεπείς σε λογιών-λογιών δραστηριότητες. Το να τους μάθουμε να είναι συνεπείς - και έτσι να δείχνουν το σεβασμό τους - για τη Θεία Ευχαριστία θα πρέπει να είναι κύριό μας μέλημα!

EPISTLE II Corinthians 1:21-24; 2:1-4 B rethren, it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has commissioned us; he has put his seal upon us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. But I call God to witness against me it was to spare you that I refrained from coming to Corinth. Not that we lord it over your faith; we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith. For I made up my mind not to make you another painful visit. For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained? And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all. For I wrote you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you. GOSPEL Matthew 22:2-14 T he Lord said this parable, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son, and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they would not come. Again he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.' But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.' And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.' For many are called, but few are chosen." RESPECT FOR THE HOLY EUCHARIST It is difficult to prepare children for Liturgy. But there is no excuse for missing Liturgy entirely and expecting to receive Communion. You will not be communed outside of Liturgy unless you are old, infirm or have experienced an emergency. Saying it was hard getting the kids ready today will not suffice. Teaching children to be on time - and thus show respect for - the Eucharist should be our top priority.

Father and Hierarch Nicholas, intercede with Christ our God, that our souls may be saved. Kontakion Both Joachim and Anna from their sterility's stigma, and Adam and Eve from their mortality's ruin have been set free, O immaculate Maid, by your holy nativity. For this do your people hold celebration, redeemed from the guilt of transgression as they cry to you, "The barren one bears the Theotokos, the nourisher of our Life."

Saints and Feasts NATIVITY OF THE THEOTOKOS The birth and early life of the Virgin Mary is not recorded in the Gospels or other books of the New Testament, however this information can be found in a work dating from the second century known as the Book of James or Protevangelion. According to the story found in this book, Mary's parents, Joachim and Anna, were childless for many years. They remained faithful to God, but their prayers for a child were unanswered. One day, when Joachim came to the temple to make an offering, he was turned away by the High Priest who chastised him for his lack of children. To hide his shame, Joachim retreated to the hill country to live among the shepherds and their flocks. As Joachim was praying, his wife Anna was praying at the same time at their house in Jerusalem. An angel appeared to both of them and announced that Anna would have a child whose name would be known throughout the world. Anna promised to offer her child as a gift to the Lord. Joachim returned home, and in due time Anna bore a daughter, Mary. ΓΕΝΝΗΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΥΠΕΡΑΓΙΑΣ ΘΕΟΤΟΚΟΥ «Ἀποκάλυψαν πρὸς Κύριον τὴν ὁδόν σου καὶ ἔλπισον ἐπ αὐτόν, καὶ αὐτὸς ποιήσει» (Ψαλμός λστ' στ. 5). Φανέρωσε στον Κύριο με εμπιστοσύνη το δρόμο και της επιδιώξεις και της ανάγκες της ζωής σου και έλπισε σ' Αυτόν και Αυτός θα κάνει εκείνα που ζητάς και χρειάζεσαι. Μ' αυτή την εμπιστοσύνη και ελπίδα, ο Ιωακείμ και η Άννα ικέτευαν προσευχόμενοι το Θεό να της χαρίσει παιδί, να το έχουν γλυκεία παρηγοριά στα γεράματα της. Και την ελπίδα της ο Θεός έκανε πραγματικότητα. Της χάρισε την Παρθένο Μαριάμ, που ήταν ορισμένη να γεννήσει το Σωτήρα του κόσμου και να λάμψει σαν η πιο ευλογημένη μεταξύ των γυναικών. Ήταν εκείνη, από την οποία έμελλε να προέλθει Αυτός που θα συνέτριβε την κεφαλή του νοητού όφεως. Στην Παλαιά Διαθήκη δόθηκαν της προτυπώσεις της Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου. Μία είναι και η βάτος στο Σινά, την οποία ενώ είχαν περιζώσει φλόγες φωτιάς, αυτή δεν καιγόταν. Ήταν απεικόνιση της Παρθένου, που θα γεννούσε το Σωτήρα Χριστό και συγχρόνως θα διατηρούσε την παρθενία της. Έτσι, η Άννα και ο Ιωακείμ, που ήταν από το γένος του Δαβίδ, με την κραταιά ελπίδα που είχαν στο Θεό απέκτησαν απ' Αυτόν το επιθυμητό δώρο, που θα συντροφεύει τον κόσμο μέχρι συντέλειας αιώνων.

TEMPORARY HOUSING WANTED Dr. Vassiliki Chryssanthopoulou has received an award from the Fulbright Foundation in Greece to conduct research with the local Greek community from December 15, 2015 to March 15, 2016. She will be researching traditional culture as well as the local impact of and responses to the Greek economic crisis. Dr. Chryssanthopoulou received her degree in cultural anthropology from Oxford University and is an Associate Professor at the University of Athens. Her primary area of research has been Greek immigrant communities, especially Kastellorizan communities in Australia.
