Philoptochos - Pajama Drive Please help the Greek Ladies Philoptochos for the third year provide new cozy pajamas to children in need in Ottawa and the Greater Ottawa Valley. These families face difficult challenges such as poverty, addiction, domestic violence and mental health issues. Through the Pajama Drive, you are contributing to a warmer, more loving bedtime. The pajamas are to be new and unused, a complete set for ages 3 months to 12 years old. Please feel free to drop off pajamas on Sundays in the Church Hall; during the week in the Church office; or on Saturdays at Greek School. Όπως και τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, η προσπάθεια αυτή αποβλέπει στο να συγκεντρωθούν πιτζάμες για παιδιά των οποίων οι οικογένειες αντιμετωπίζουν φτώχεια, εθισμό, ενδοοικογενειακή και θέματα ψυχικής υγείας. Μέσω αυτού του προγράμματος, μπορείτε να συμβάλετε σε έναν «πιο ζεστό και πιο όμορφο ύπνο» για αυτά τα παιδιά. BRETHREN, I would have you know that the gospel which was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus. For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Former Ambassador to Greece from Canada, Mr. Robert Peck will also be in attendance to say a few words on Lesvos and the House-of-Canada-and-the -Americas project."all are welcome. Free Admission. Trip to Panagia Parigoritissa Monastery November 6th The Sunday School & Youth Groups are planning a day trip to the Panagia Parigoritissa Monastery on Sunday, November 6th. The bus will be leaving our community centre at 8:30 a.m. and returning by 4:00 p.m. The cost of the trip will be $10 per child, $20 per adult to cover some of the trip expenses for the coach bus and also to make a small donation to the Monastery as they will be providing lunch. This trip is open to the Sunday School children, teachers and the youth. We are currently accepting names on a waitlist if there is more space available. AHEPA Continues to Provide Public Health Assistance to Greece In September, AHEPA's Committee for the AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki facilitated the donation of 16 hospital beds to the AHEPA Hospital. AHEPA Chapter CJ5, Ottawa, Ontario, was instrumental in securing the donation from the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Present for the delivery of the beds were: Brother John Kottas, chapter HJ3 president; Dr. Anastasios Spanos, Board of Directors President; Past District 25 Governor Dr. A.J. Barich, who is a Board of Directors member of the AHEPA Hospital; Mrs. Kokoni Koutsianda, administrative head nurse; Hristos Karapiperis, District 25 representative; and Director of Hospital Administration Vassilis Anastasiadis. "Without the help of the Ottawa AHEPA Chapter, this donation would not have happened" said George Vassilas Chairman of Committee. "The committee wants to thank Nicholas Hatzitheodosiou, George Papadopoulos, and especially Dr. Michael Vassilyadi, Neurosurgeon for the Children s Hospital of Eastern Ontario for their hard work." "These beds were put into circulation within hours of the hospital receiving them." "We are deeply grateful to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario for making a generous donation to help the people of Greece," Supreme President Andrew C. Zachariades said. GOD S EMBROIDERY When I was a little boy, my mother used to embroider a great deal. I would sit at her knee and look up from the floor and ask what she was doing. She informed me that she was embroidering. I told her that it looked like a mess from where I was. As from the underside I watched her work within the boundaries of the little round hoop that she held in her hand, I complained to her that it sure looked messy from where I sat. She would smile at me, look down and gently say, My son, you go about your playing for a while, and when I am finished with my embroidering, I will put you on my knee and let you see it from my side. I would wonder why she was using some dark threads along with the bright ones and why they seemed so jumbled from my View. A few minutes would pass and then I would hear Mother s voice say, Son, come and sit on my knee. This I did only to be surprised and thrilled to see a beautiful flower or a sunset. I could not believe it, because from underneath it looked so messy. Then Mother would say to me, My son, from underneath it did look messy and jumbled, but you did not realize that there was a pre-drawn plan on the top. It was a design. I was only following it. Now look at it from my side and you will see what I was doing. Many times through the years I have looked up to my Heavenly Father and said, Father, what are You doing? He has answered, I am embroidering your life. I say, But it looks like a mess to me. It seems so jumbled. The threads seem so dark. The Father seems to tell me, My child, you go about your business of doing My business, and one day I will bring you to Heaven and put you on My knee and you will see the plan from My side. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord plans for good and not for evil, plans to give you a future and a hope. -Jeremiah 29:11 ΤΟ ΕΡΓΟΧΕΙΡΟ ΤΟ ΘΕΟΥ Όταν ήμουνα παιδί, η μητέρα μου κεντούσε πολλά εργόχειρα και μου άρεσε να κάθομαι μπροστά από τα γόνατά της, να κοιτώ το κέντημά της και να τη ρωτώ τι κάνει. Εκείνη μου απαντούσε πως κεντούσε το εργόχειρό της. Τότε, της έλεγα πως από εκεί που έβλεπα εγώ το εργόχειρό της, φαινόταν ακατάστατο και μπερδεμένο. Εκείνη χαμογελούσε και μου έλεγε γλυκά: «Παιδί μου, πήγαινε να παίξεις κι όταν τελειώσω θα έρθεις να σου δείξω αυτό που κεντώ από την καλή μεριά, από αυτή που το βλέπω εγώ». Αναρωτιόμουνα γιατί, μαζί με τις κλωστές που είχαν έντονα και φωτεινά χρώματα, χρησιμοποιούσε κι άλλες που ήταν σκούρες που έκαναν όλο το εργόχειρο να δείχνει ακατάστατο. Ύστερα από λίγο εκείνη με φώναζε κοντά της. Εγώ έτρεχα και με έκπληξη και ενθουσιασμό έβλεπα κεντημένα πανέμορφα λουλούδια και ηλιοβασιλέματα. Μου φαινόταν απίστευτο το πόσο διαφορετικό ήταν το εργόχειρο από εκεί που το έβλεπα εγώ. Τότε εκείνη μου έλεγε: «Παιδί μου, εσύ έβλεπες το εργόχειρο από την ανάποδη πλευρά του γι αυτό φαινόταν μπερδεμένο κι ακατάστατο. Δεν ήξερες πως από την καλή του τη μεριά υπήρχε ένα σχέδιο που ακολουθούσα εγώ και που στο τέλος έχει αυτό το όμορφο αποτέλεσμα που βλέπεις τώρα». Στη ζωή μου, πολλές φορές, έχω ατενίσει προς τον Επουράνιο Πατέρα μου και τον έχω ρωτήσει: «Πατέρα, τι κάνεις;» κι Εκείνος έχει απαντήσει: «Κεντάω τη ζωή σου». «Μα εμένα μου φαίνεται τόσο μπερδεμένη και τόσο χαώδης από εδώ που τη βλέπω, και τα νήματα που χρησιμοποιείς φαίνονται τόσο σκούρα» του απάντησα. Και τότε ήταν σαν και να μου έλεγε Εκείνος: «Παιδί μου, εσύ κοίταξε τη δουλειά σου κι εγώ θα κάνω τη δική μου. Όταν, μια μέρα, σε καλέσω κοντά μου στον Ουρανό, θα σε καθήσω στα γόνατά μου και θα σου δείξω το εργόχειρο της ζωής σου και από τη μεριά που το βλέπω εγώ».
