Dear Ladies of Philoptochos, I can not believe that summer is almost over and that fall is quickly nipping at our heels! We all know that means our Annual Bake Sale will be here before we know it. Leigh Cortesis will be chairing this again this year, so please contact her if you have any questions about what you can do to help. Baking preparations will also begin this month. Remember if you can not make on a Tuesday morning, we will also be preparing on Monday nights. In June Leigh and I went to the Clergy Laity. The both of us learned about many new programs that are going to be implemented in the coming year. One of these is how to grow our chapter with both young and old members. As always we gathered as much information on what other chapters are doing and what a positive role they are making in their local community. It is always inspiring to see how one can make a difference. I am also pleased to announce, I will be serving on the Metropolis Philoptochos Board for a 2 year term. What an honor it will be to represent my community. With this role it will give me the opportunity to learn more and bring back that knowledge here and share with you all, along with reporting back to them any of our concerns that we might have. It will be nice to know that our voices will be heard from here. Litsa Tsiolkas is our chair for Hospice and what a wonderful job that she has done! If anyone is interested in helping serve a meal there please contact her and let her know. I was there with her last month and I can not tell you how much it means to the families there. Our first general meeting will be Wednesday on September 11, 2013 @ 7:00 pm. I hope to see lots of new faces there! We will also have our Oath of Office Sunday on September 15 th after Liturgy. The Newsletter for the Youth Ministries of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Winston-Salem NC Proistamenos - Fr. Demetri Kangelaris, Deacon Constantine Shepherd - Youth ANNUNCIATION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH 435 KEATING DRIVE WINSTON-SALEM NC 27104 SEPTEMBER 2013 The Four Circles are the foundations that all youth ministries in the church are founded upon. In fact they are the basic foundations for how we as Orthodox Christians can live our daily lives. WORSHIP (LITURGIA) As Orthodox Christians we believe that God reveals Himself through Holy Tradition and Scripture. Worship is the living expression of these, and is therefore a very important element in our lives and it is necessary for us all to be active participants in the liturgical life of the church. WITNESS (MARTYRIA) We as Orthodox Christians should strive to be true to ourselves and our faith. We should strive to exemplify the teachings of the Church. We witness when we are living as Christ taught us to live, letting Christ shine in all that we do to those around us. SERVICE (DIAKONIA) Christ came to serve, not to be served. We can honor and glorify God by loving and serving others in His name. We can serve others in our parish, in our community and around the world everyone based on the talents they are given. We can feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison, responding to these human needs is true service. FELLOWSHIP (KOINONIA) We integrate our faith into our daily lives in the way we relate to others. Our existence is based on our relationship with God and with each other. It is sacred when Orthodox Christians gather together in the Lord s name with fellowship and love. CONTACT INFORMATION Rev.
