Not Successful But Faithful One thing we must always remember about success as Christians: human success is no guarantee of divine success. Did not Jesus say, But many that are first will be last, and the last first (Mark 10:31). It is interesting to note that the word success never appears in the Bible. There are parables and other references to being faithful stewards, or being found faithful, but not to our being successful. Apparently, being successful is not ours to determine but God s. We are called to be not successful but faithful. God did not call me to be successful, but to be faithful, said Mother Teresa. The Prophet Jeremiah, thrown into a well and left to die, was he successful or faithful? John the Baptist, beheaded for standing up for God s truth, was he successful or faithful? Paul the Apostle, languishing in prison for believing that we must obey God rather than man, was he successful or faithful? The countless Christian apostles and saints who were martyred for their faith, were they successful or faithful? To be truly successful in God s eyes means to be faithful. It means a cross. Let him who would come after me, said Jesus, deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For Pondering Christmas is God with us. Good Friday is God for us. Pentecost is God in us. Pray for others as you would pray for yourself, for we are one, as the children of the Heavenly Father. St. John of Kronstadt

Breezeway Update Dear Ladies of Philoptochos, I can not believe that summer is almost over and that fall is quickly nipping at our heels! We all know that means our Annual Bake Sale will be here before we know it. Leigh Cortesis & Maria Mathes will be chairing again this year, so please contact them if you have any questions about what you can do to help. Baking preparations will also begin this month. Remember if you can not make it on a Tuesday morning, we will also be preparing on Monday nights. Our first general meeting will be Wednesday September 10, 2014 @ 7:00 pm. We will have a slide show presentation about H.O.P.E and I will offer many different ways that you can help with this program. Along with this amazing outreach program we have other areas that we help serve and we will talk about those also. Please join us and come and learn what we are all about. We are trying to organize a fall get away for our members and their spouses to Charleston, SC. Maria Blevins & Maria Mathes have been working very hard to come up with a lodging, transportation and a list of activities. We will also discuss this at the meeting to see who all is interested. This will also be open for other communities to join us. If we can not get enough interested in this trip, we might look at possibly a day trip somewhere. Your Sister in Christ, Ann-Marie Dentiste-Speas The Good Samaritan Helpers of the Greek Orthodox Church sent cards in July to George Vlasis and JoAnn Hondros. We would like to remind the parishioners that we are here to help in many ways. Please let us know if we can be of help to you, or someone that you know. It is another wonderful upgrade to our facilities. We should all be proud of it. A number of items remain to be completed and should be done The ramp in front of our entrance will allow entrance into our Church and Sunday School from both sides of the Breezeway. It will help those who need special assistance. We ask all to treat everything with the care and respect it deserves. Our Church is an extension of our homes! The Parish Council also authorized us to complete the upgrade of our old Sunday School rooms while the Breezeway construction was taking place. Our Sunday School, Greek School, Preschool and all youth programs will certainly benefit from this new and improved environment. The Fellowship Hall extension has been delayed a bit due to the permitting process. We now have all the necessary permits and work will begin. We are able to pay for all these improvements from the proceeds of our Greek Festivals. This serves as a reminder that OUR HELP during the Festival comes back to us in ways that benefit ALL OF US. We are able to dedicate Festival proceeds towards such projects because our STEW- ARDSHIP SUPPORT pay for most of our day to day operations of OUR CHURCH. It takes ALL of US, as a team working together to accomplish wonderful things. Remember that TEAM stands for TOGETHER, EVERYONE, ACCOMPLISHING, MORE!!! The month of September is our Donation to Senior Services. The materials they need is posted on the Bulletin Board and copies are on the wooden chest in the Breezeway. We would appreciate your help on this.

Annunciation Christian Academy Testimonial from a grandmother of our Preschool students When my granddaughter, Nevaeh, was not old enough for kindergarten (she just missed the age cutoff date) we decided that she needed a preschool that would help to develop her mind. Through dance, we met a woman (Yiota Gianopoulos) who's daughter went to Annunciation Christian Academy. Not being a shy person myself, I started talking to her and it was the best thing I ever did! I explained that we were looking for a good place for Nevaeh to learn, not just to play. She suggested we give ACA a try so we enrolled her. At ACA Nevaeh not only found a place to learn but she also learned about different cultures. My other granddaughter, Kegan, had the benefit of spending two years at the school. Not only did they learn numbers and letters they also developed the basics of reading. ACA has a family and a church atmosphere where all children are "number one". My granddaughters were loved by all and they loved all in return. I can honestly say that the best thing I have ever done for my granddaughters was to enroll them for three years of their preschool education at ACA! Keep them innocent in this life. Shelter them in the shadow of Your wings from this day to the end of their lives. Protect them throughout their lives, so that they may know You as the loving Father. Guide them in the tribulations and distresses of this life, so that they may identify You as the Author of Life. O Christ our God, keep watch over them and bless them all. For to You are due all glory and thanksgiving and worship, and to Your Father Who is from everlasting, and Your all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, always now and forever, and to the ages of ages. Constantine Shepherd NEW BEGINNINGS September 1st, in the Orthodox Church, is the beginning of the Ecclesiastical or Church Year. We celebrate the blessings of the harvest and pray for favorable weather, temperate seasons and God s blessings. We remember Christ s entry and teaching in the Synagogue, where he proclaimed the fulfilling of Isaiah s prophecy (Luke 4:16-30). The month of September is for us a time for new beginnings. We start back with school and our various youth and Church programs like Sunday School, GOYA, HOPE, JOY and Dance Troupes. As we begin to fill our busy schedules with all this time of year brings, let s try to be very intentional in making sure we focus on our spiritual wellbeing and remember that our lives should be a balance of the Four Circles: Worship, Witness, Service, and Fellowship. SERVICE SATURDAY FOR GOYA SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 27th The GOYA will be meeting at the Hall on Saturday Sept. 27th, at 11:00am. We will be helping to make bag lunches for the Help Our People Eat program (HOPE). We will also be doing a general cleaning up around the church property and grounds. This should only take a few hours if we have lots of participation. A pizza lunch will be provided. This is a great way to start the year with both service and fellowship.
