Epistle St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians 3:4-11 BRETHREN, when Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. In these you once walked, when you lived in them. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Gospel Luke 14:16-24 The Lord said this parable: "A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many; and at the time of the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for all is now ready.' But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.' And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused.' And another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, 'Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.' And the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. Receiving Holy Communion The sacrament of Holy Communion is reserved for only baptized and/or Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have properly prepared by fasting, prayer and confession. The Orthodox Church is not in sacramental communion with any other church outside the Orthodox Christian Faith. If you are not Orthodox, you are invited with everyone to receive the Antidoron (blessed bread) at the end of service. If you would like information about the Orthodox Church, please see Fr. Philoptochos News Christmas is just around the corner! And don t forget gift cards! Your purchases help us raise funds to give to MANY worthy charities! Great Lakes Scrip carries cards from MANY grocery stores, department stores, restaurants, movies, etc. You name it, they carry it! These cards make great gifts for your college students! Compassionate Friends Ministry The Compassionate Friends Ministry first and foremost offers a connection of loving companionship to people who are bound to their homes, either out of illness or age, so that they remain connected to the grace and love of Jesus Christ through our Church. This outreach is especially crucial and meaningful to these individuals during the busy holiday season. Please prayerfully consider becoming a part of this ministry by signing up to share the precious gift of your time through home visits. The ministry also extends itself to those who may have recently undergone surgery, are in the hospital, are isolated, are in grief, or have given birth to a child. Although part of the greater Philoptochos membership, all are invited to participate. Aid our Community and Parish Families Project Our tree is full, once again, of the wishes and needs of families and children from our very own community and parish. Let us all come together this holiday season and make it a Christmas to remember for our families that are going through a rough patch. Stop by the Philoptochos table and pick up a gift card. Your generosity is a great help to a family that doesn t have some of the things that we consider given.
